Thanks for watching. This mower was kept outside for a long time and unfortunately it took a huge toll on it.
Since it’s a hobby that I enjoy very much I’d gladly spend a day or two bringing it back to life. If I had to do repairs for a living I’d probably be more inclined to focus on “money maker” jobs but I’m sure they wouldn’t be as enjoyable.
couldn't have said it any better myself
Yes I would clean them up like you do and you do a very good job and I learned a lot from you thanks for your time and videos you make
thank you I appreciate that
This is one of those mowers that I would fix in the off season, and be ready to sell when the grass starts growing.
yes I totally agree with you on that
It was worth the Time, Energy and Effort because it allowed you to share the time dispense with us, along with saving a good motor from ending its premature life as scrap metal.
B&S indestructible design... will outlive us all.
Good old flathead
agreed!
The work on the mower was not too difficult and you got the satisfaction of knowing you met the restoration challenge.
excellent point
That was a tough one. As I’m retired I’d tinker with it and spend the time necessary. I was surprised it ran as well as it did! Well done resurrection! 🎉
thank you and yes, I was quite surprised too
That fusion paint is awesome. That deck flex is insane!
I know right
I'm always glad to see another gas engine saved. Would I have spent the time on it? I enjoy working on small engines, so I probably would have. If I were doing it solely for the money, then no.
well said!
Nice job! Like the color scheme, buyers do notice this.
thanks and I sure hope they do!
You made it beautiful! Excellent work. I'd have spent the time too & hoped to do as well.
The dignity of a job superbly done is worth something too. Not as easily calculated perhaps but valuable nonetheless.
very well said
Nice to see the backwards fitted air filter housing immediately reinstalled correctly! People thinks it is aerodynamic and the pointy end has to go forward😂
I know right!
I am working on a riding mower that sat outdoors for several years. I have heard you talk about rarely finding collapsed fuel lines, but I found them on this one. I actually had to put a fresh line on just to drain the old gas out of the tank. The inner coating of the lines had turned into a gelatin like substance. Not a single drop came through them. I had seen it before, but never this bad.
the reason I don't talk about it, is because i don't come across it very often, my 2 times out of the hundreds I've seen, so for me it's quite rare.
@@HomeGaragechannel Off the top of my head, I think this is the second time I have come across it. I am still very early in my hobby though. I have been working on small engines for about five years now, but I have only worked on about 30 or so machines. I am not in a financial position that allows me to crank them out quickly, so some of my projects take a while if I have to buy a lot of parts for them.
I understand your situation
This one of those deals where it's money Vs having a functional machine to use. These sort of simple mowers are great because usually a simple machine has less things to go wrong , wear out or break off. Plus to me they are just plain lighter and that means for anyone pushing the thing around the yard is easier.
One thing I would do if I had this unit is have a good look at reinforcing the area around the base of the handle. I would try and kill the rust then make a backing plate to spread the load , then coat it in thick paint or bed-liner coating.
But like you said all this work = time spent .
If the deck is too far gone then what you have is an excellent set of spare parts.
That Briggs motor will last for ages , I have 2 myself and I can't fault them at all.😁👍
you said it all!
That engine will never die
I sure hope so!
I just get into save the mower and I don't look at the time cuz I'm disabled so when can save money instead of buying one from the box stores that's what I do I just got done saving a Troy-Bilt self-propelled thank you for the video
you hear you loud and clear and that's a great idea
Good job! Greetings from Sardinia
Thank you very much!
Man that Poulan mower looks like one that me and my family used own a while back. we gave it away for free by putting it on the side of the road and free please take sign and it was gone just like that. Yeah it always easier to modify something on the mower itself rather than trying to mess with the cable that you just bought and you don't want to waste money on having to purchase another cable by wanting to try and modify it.
you got that right
If this is just for a hobby sake, then probably isn't worth too much time to spend on a cheaper Poulan push mower. I'm glad you got it running again though. Those older Briggs flathead engines are a joy to work on. I almost thought that the carburetor had to be cleaned.
If this were an older Honda push mower, then spending the extra time to getting it running again properly would be great.
I feel the same way. Great hobby to use your time on, and even better with a good machine at the end.
Have you been to your local big box store lately, gas lawnmowers are getting scarce by day most everything is battery crap that no one wants with starting price of $500. That Poulan is running good and looks great you’ll definitely get your price. Great job 👍
yes, in fact I was looking for so long taking stock that was approached by a sales person. Had to tell them what I thought about battery vs gasoline mowers
Another one saved good job
thank you!
Those little old mowers are the best in my opinion. They're cheap, easy to work on, and parts are still available. I had one not to long ago u must of fixed everything you did to this one but since I'm a lawn equipment junky I didn't mind all the time I took. I spent like $40 sold for $100
Totally agree with you!
some larger washers would help stabilize the bolts on the wheels without having to make more holes. I am always glad to see a older mower fire up with carb spray.
thank you!
Another one saved mate! Well done!
Thanks 👍
Looks 👀👍 cheaper then price💰new one 💪
agreed
I got a free mower with the same exact fuel tank and carb and I spent about 5 hours fixing it because it wasn't running. Since I was not fixing it to sell for a profit, it was 100% worth it for me because in my area you can't buy a used lawn mower for less than $100. I have a question for you - if you found that the carb was leaking gas on this mower, what would be your first troubleshooting steps? I seem to be having that issue with mine. Thanks!
on this style of fuel system, with the pulsa-prime, if there's fuel leaking, it can only be coming from the tank. There's either a crack in the tank or a pin hole from rust.
The zip tie is a great idea to shut off the engine 👍
It sure is!
@@HomeGaragechannel main thing is that you got it running again and doing like it is supposed to be
Babe, wake up, homegarage uploaded
Thank you!
Hello, what's the degreaser that you're always using? It seems to do a great job , and, can i buy something similar in Canada ?
Thank You for so much for all the explanaitions that you give when doing either repairs / renewals !! They are really helpful.
Dan
Thank you Dan, I appreciate the comment, I use Super Heavy Duty Degreaser from Harbor Freight, but I'm sure any good automotive degreaser from Canadian Tire will do.
😂 sad but true. Mower like that is a homeowners special. Guy like you doesn’t spend 5 minutes on it.
you got that right, I felt pretty good once I was done with it.
I Prefer to remove tank n carb assy for complete cleaning of all components but good job.
For your question, here in Canada, just the parts you bought are around 50 bucks so not worth the fix even if you don't add time😢
thank you for the information
Honestly, I would have fixed the engine and then kept that mower as a parts machine with all the missing parts it had. But, it is also fun to resurrect a machine everyone else would have given up on.
totally agree with you and I see your point
To me, it's not about the money. I'd put in the time to get it going properly, knowing that at the end, I get satisfaction from getting it to run well.
I like the way you put that
I understand why you do the things you do, no hate or anything meant at all. When you sell these do people ever notice say the painted wheel and accuse you of covering things up?
this was the first mower where I painted the wheels and they like them. The cover up was to make the odd ball wheel just like the others. Paint can't cover up a worn out engine, or a hard to start one, so no, no one ever accuses me of hiding something critical with paint.
We’re 34 seconds in and I’m going to suggest that the carburettor needs to be freed. Let’s see… pleasantly surprised that it wasn’t. Makes a change.
thank you
hi house garage so I got the chainsaw back together and started it up and it worked just fine I just needed to adjust the carb a little bit and then I cut some wood with and it cut fine and then I shut it off and then when I came back to give it a cold start it wouldn’t start and I only changed one of the fuel lines the one going from the primer bulb to the carb and when I pressed the bulb sometimes it would stick inwards like it wouldn’t come back to it original shape and then when I would prime it the bulb would fill up a quarter of the way and then sometimes all the way and my dad told me that it might be that the fuel line that we replaced isn’t sealed around the carb properly but I would like to know what you think so let me know if you know what the problem could be thanks
I think you have the lines on the bulb backwards
Hey bro what's up? I don't know if you remember but I was working on this same model mower as my personal project. I ended up abandoning this project since I wasn't able to get spare parts to work on it bro.
I understand the situation you were in .
A lot of mowers I get are missing the brake handle, I have A tecumseh with the same problem of not stopping quick enough
On the Tecumseh, have you checked to see if the shoe for the brakes is missing?
@@HomeGaragechannel no, I might just keep it so it won’t be a problem
I think the wheels being a darker forest green would of been a better choice. Also would sell better. Lime green wheels most would ingore the mower. I know i would walk right past it with lime green wheels. But im picky.
Hey! that's a great idea!
Well, you can’t win them all. I have many projects in my garage that I acquired over the past few months and the one I worked on today was my own personal mower. It’s just one of those hyper tough mowers that I‘m not going to make any profit from so after working on it for a couple hours today, I just decided to sell it as is and was completely honest in the description. If I get 50 bucks I get 50 bucks 🤷♂️
thank you for sharing your experience, it happens sometimes
Nope won't pick up those PUSH MOWERS but I will grab self propelled baggers but those bedazzled wheels 👌 PRICELESS
thank you about the wheels and totally understand your choice in self propelled ones
These Briggs classics and flatheads are pretty much unkillable. I have a Briggs 12.5hp flathead I've straight piped and it's survived several rounds of 5000+ RPMS
wow, that must scream!
Why didn't you replace the dry-rotted 90 rubber fitting under the air filter? I would have spent that time on it, if I planned on selling it.
it wasn't broken
8 hours? Hell no. But I'm also the guy who spent $200 on genuine parts for a non self propelled troy built that is 12 years old but it was mine from new and I want to keep it
nice work!
I hope that you're going to run it then change the oil because I noticed that you filled the engine with sump oil.!
yep, changed it after using it on my lawn.
The time to get it running doesn't bother me much as i want to learn as much as i can to fix it correctly. The money part i worry about it later. My insanity i wouldn't get back😅 but hey as cheap these mowers are it will sell.
well said
👍🏾
thank you!
Do you have any mowers forsaje I’m in Georgia ?
no
It was a free mower and you were able to get it fixed for a small amount of money in parts but invested a little too much time in it. In that case I would try to make up the cost of your time on some of the next few projects. Spread the profit you expected to get on this mower over the next few projects.
What do you think you can get for this mower, $100 to $150?
I ended up selling this mower for $100
That’s a fair price.
I think so too considering all work that's been done. Most of the other AD's don't mention any kind of maintenance work that's been done on them.
What’s the worst lawnmower you have seen
The one I just worked on was Toro with the dreaded leaky Kohler.. It's now blowing oil out of the breather and is basically useless now.
Lipstick on a pig I think we have to rate it better than that ! My family briggs engine 🔥
LOL!! I like this comment
hi i have a question...
will/can you do a google meet w/me because i just got a 20+ year old brush hogand i need help with fixing it (aka it wont start ) and my parents dont have the time to do it with me
unfortunately I cannot
I mean maybe I would spend that amount of time if I was just bored and wanted to do smth with my life lol, maybe not that amount of money though unless I’m certain I’d be getting my moneys worth out of it
I've got some time to burn especially when it comes to these machines. Thank you for your input
What is the app you use
@@Boyjedi9 he says he uses FB marketplace and Craigslist
I use FB marketplace and Craigslist
If I needed it, the fix would be an investment. Cheap fix for a good enough mower. Happy weekend! I AMEN mjg263 below!
