I loved her. Would liked to see more of her in the series but like some have said there wasn't the time given to her. Beautiful caring woman type, that was needed on that crew. Not boring at all.
It just occurred to me - the first piece sounds very Chinese, but the instruments are not. The violin is western and the flute is Japanese. Can't believe I never noticed that. That's one thing I loved about Firefly - in every way, they seemed to take very different elements and get them to work as a harmonious whole.
regardless of how you feel about the character, you can't deny that this is a just amazing piece of music! And in all it's beauty and brilliance, it suits her and her setting/background/style really well :)
I love this music, but could have done without the "troll" comment by the person who posted it. How about looking at the other characters first and seeing how well Inara balances them out. Mal - unconventional hero; Wash - humorous, silly; Zoe - tough female warrior; Jayne - kinda corrupt but hilarious; Kaylee - sweet and funny; River - crazy yet endearing; Simon - awkward yet lovable and smart. And Inara? Elegant and kind. It works when you already have those other dynamics amongst the others.
It is so Inara. Simple, raw and indescribably beautiful. Anyone who says Inara is boring did not understand, and it's their loss. In a very subtle and nuanced show, she was the most subtle. Though hardly saw
I just finished having the most gorgeous bath to the entire Firefly soundtrack! Candles, music, the lot! This track was especially calming ...... :) *peaceful and very content look on face*
@SerenityScore Hey, Mal started fights with her too. They both liked to hurt each other out of ignorance because they were both too stubborn to admit they had feelings for one another. So what did they do? They both took turns to hurt one another.
Inarra was probably one of my faves though its hard to pick they are all brilliant. She had peacefulness that balanced out everyone else's craziness. Plus we never got to find out the big secret, so she was never really fully developed. But this song is amazing.
As has been said before, she didn't really have a lot of character development because the series got canceled so early. But she was a vital character, she was Mal's love interest. If the series would have continued, they would have gotten together.
@ataaah yeah, true. She was the least developed though I think, which kinda does make her a little boring compared to the rest of the crew. Though actually, that needle she got out in the episode with the reavers wasn't in fact a suicide dose, it was something for her health. She was terminally ill, and that's why she left when she realised she was in love with Mal. Of course, there were only ever the slightest of hints dropped, and we never got to see that story unfold... :'(
(ff3, thanks for responding to my comment, I'm pleased to "meet" you) I just listened to some of fireflyfanatic3's music. if you like this piece you will probably enjoy her lovely and lyrical work.
Indeed. Inara's main importance to what they made of the series was largely the role she played to each of the other members of the ship. She was a conscience/ love interest for Mal, a big sister for Kaylee, a mother figure for River, a surprising confidante for Shepherd Book, and a friend for everyone else.
Inara wasn't boring at all! None of the characters were boring. I loved each and every one of them, and all their differences. Inara added sensuality and spirituality of a different kind to Book's. She was more than a match for Mal in a slanging match and was extremley caring towards all of the crew and treated them as family. Loved her relationship with Kaylee. She added much needed girlyness to the otherwise stark and rough feel of the ship. She also had an excellent character arc lined up!
@saucymincks there was something much more interesting about Inara - she was terminally ill! There were faint hints during the series (like - "I don't want to die at all", and defends herself "I'm not running away from anything!", but most importantly - when the Reavers attack and she's got a needle - she wasn't getting ready to commit suicide, she was in the middle of taking her medication!) I think it would have been SOOO good to watch that story unfold if they'd just continued the series!
I still think the "I don't want to die at all" line could interpreted differently in conjunction to what Simon says before that. As for the box with the needle and the vial doesn't look like something to be used very regularly but for a very special reason; in this case I think I read somewhere that it was a pathogen that she had immunity but not others. So if the Reavers were to break into the ship and attack her, she would take a few of them with her. And (OK I admit I probably taking these details a bit too seriously) but if the medical tests for a licensed Companion are very thorough, how they could allow a terminally ill person to keep their license? Of course we never learned the details and maybe if it was under control, like the illness of the people on Regina.
@@SpSot Sorry to Necro a several year old reply. But i had to point out something. Cancer = Terminal illness it's not contagious through the performance of a "companion" in Firefly's universe. There are many illnesses that are Terminal that will not interfere with that. And in a futuristic setting there can even be more. Besides.. A person so close to death.. it may make their heart warmer, their judgements softer, and their compassion all the more greater. For they may have always had a big heart, but didn't want to get hurt so closed it off. And so with death looming over their head, they were more willing to give anyone and everyone they could a respite from the cold, harsh pain of reality. They would do this because they want to see the world they leave be a bit of a brighter place.. though it may be naive in the end.. as some don't change their ways.
Okay, I have a valid reason for Inara's existance. To make Mal funnier. Yes, I know she was going to be so much more, but could've, should've would've really. However, I like her as a character, she kinda fleshed out the crew with just a little legality, emphasizing their lawless streak.
to be honest, I don't really care about the debate over Inara (I personally liked her, I think she balanced the show, but whatever) - this is a beautiful piece of music. It's a crime for such a wonderful show with such a beautiful soundtrack and devoted fans got cancelled after only one season. After the Dollhouse disappointment, I'm just PRAYING for Joss to avoid FOX like the plague they are.
This piece captures the very essence of Inara's character. Her elegance. Her grace. Her modesty. Her kindness. Her heart. Her mystery. Her hidden sorrow. (For those who didn't know, she had a terminal illness and was going to die had the series continued.) Because of this, sometimes i'm glad Firefly was canceled. I can't imagine the pain it would have put Mal through losing Inara in death. (or any of the crew for that matter.)
Tess1061 her terminal ilness was called mortality albiet long over due. Inara was taking drugs/therapy that prolonged her life, perpetual youth and beauty, she was the oldest person on the ship. This is aluded to in the show when another companuin says she hasn't aged andis why she can't stay in one place or commit to being with the same people or in time they'll know. All that was thrown out for the film of course.
Boring? Inara's awesome! She's so graceful and elegant. She has some amazing lines! Not to mention, She save Mal's ass at least 4 times in the course of the series. Just saying...
I never much took to her character either but I agree should could well have ended up being (and would most likely have been) fleshed out if the series had continued. There was alot more story left to tell in that universe and alot more left to learn about those characters.
Ah! What a spoiler! I guess the sexual tension transferred over to Castle. Either way, there's that on edge, hopeless romanticism just waiting for two characters to just admit it. There's something Inara's character has that even Kate Beckett doesn't... it's not class exactly (though there are times where that often seems the case). Maybe it's that Beckett has that tough wall, while Inara had a that soft mystery like you've said. Now to see what happens in Castle S5 (catching up on DVD).
another way Inara's interesting is what we now know from Joss, that she had some sort of disease and was actually dying. This makes it really interesting to look at her connection Serenity and her motivations throughout the series
Also? She was very much underused in the film and Joss himself said more of her scenes were cut than any of the others. She had less character int he film and was more just a plain and simple love interest. I missed her sass in the film. But I guess there just wasn't time for everything in that movie... ie the countless seasons worth of stories we should have had. Ity's the same with Simon, people say he's boring. I loved Simon alot because of how brave he was, and how protective of River.
It's mean to say she's boring, plus inaccurate. We only got to see the barest crack in Inara's surface. She was never given the chance to really develop as a character. What a shame.
@SerenityScore That's a ridiculous statement. You obviously have little insight as to how a television series is supposed to be paced, especially when Firefly was originally quoted BY Fox to have been imagined for a seven season run.
Seven seasons isn't seven years, for one. Stories grow and evolve. Not everyone is interesting when we first meet them in real life after all - and interesting people can grow boring over time as well. That said, will we ever know if Inara might have gotten herself as fleshed out a character as some of the others, River, Mal, et al? Unfortunately not, since the network was incredibly silly and cancelled the show.
@SerenityScore She may have been boring, but it was because of Fox. Inara was to have a much larger role in the overarcing plot of the show, but it was never reached. It does, however, elude to it numerous times through out the episodes released, you just have to pick up on her subtleties.
Effing hell effing iPhone. We didn't see any if her potential, but there were so many things hinting towards the depth of her character and her importance. An y'all should know that Whedon would NEVER make that importance being just a live interest, grr.
@mdeschayn ...By amazing chemistry, d'ya mean that together, they could feasibly blow up the ship...? xD Just kiddin, but seriously, sometimes, their fights darn near end in murder.
I'd say she might be the most boring on the show not because her character was bad, its just that all the other characters were really really great, and she got completely overshadowed.
Oh, you're probably caught up by now, but the sexual tension in seasons 1-4 is now replaced by happy sexy times. Except the finale but how about we don't talk about that. It makes me upset (goddamn cliffhangers)

Not boring that is for sure

This track almost brings tears to my eyes because it just takes me back there.. the time I watched Firefly. I rarely get this emotional. :
First of all Inara is the fucking bomb, second of all how fucking dare you

How the heck is Inara a boring character? O.o

@SerenityScore "I'm trolling" is an excuse to fall back on when one loses an argument.
She was boring on her own but she was vital as a character about the ship. She was Mal's conscience.
Inarra was probably one of my faves though its hard to pick they are all brilliant. She had peacefulness that balanced out everyone else's craziness. Plus we never got to find out the big secret, so she was never really fully developed. But this song is amazing.
@Foobyking9000
HEY HEY. She was an 'ambassador'. Give the "lady" some respect. ;)
Such a beautiful song.

Justice for Inara!
Wow, how beautiful.
Ah I so love your description. If this is as overt as you get with your trolling I say go for it :)

@SerenityScore Yes, last year is correct, IF it had gone on for as long as projected, and not picked up for more seasons afterwards.
@EpitaphN1 that actress was rebecca gayheart, the Noxema girl herself!
to be honest, I don't really care about the debate over Inara (I personally liked her, I think she balanced the show, but whatever) - this is a beautiful piece of music. and here i was thinking browncoats were all nice people.
the term is "companion"
if she could develop more, i.e if firefly wasn't canceled, then she would become an interesting character

Inaras theme is epic and peacefull
It's mean to say she's boring, plus inaccurate. We only got to see the barest crack in Inara's surface. She was never given the chance to really develop as a character. What a shame.
@SerenityScore though I like all of the characters, River, and Mal were by far my favorite characters.
river, simon, book, kaylee, badger, anyone at the shindig (that had a sash) wash, and zoe would not pick a fight for the hell of it
Why isn't any orchestra out there playing this music?
Successful Troll is Successful. Flawless Victory.

Good old fashioned trolling is rare nowadays, it seems 😂
Effing hell effing iPhone. We didn't see any if her potential, but there were so many things hinting towards the depth of her character and her importance. An y'all should know that Whedon would NEVER make that importance being just a live interest, grr.
I agree: She is the most boring in the serie. But even so, she is not boring at all.
@EpitaphN1 do you have any idea who that was?
I dunno why but something about her character gave depth without really explanation
@SerenityScore Camping, is also a legitimate response. *sarcastic*
@mdeschayn ...By amazing chemistry, d'ya mean that together, they could feasibly blow up the ship...? xD Just kiddin, but seriously, sometimes, their fights darn near end in murder.
I have heard that Nathan Fillion is buying back the series, so they can continue it!!!
I'd say she might be the most boring on the show not because her character was bad, its just that all the other characters were really really great, and she got completely overshadowed.
@mdeschayn I couldn't agree more with what you just said! :P lol
She was atleast twice as interesting as book was, IMO.
Though that doesn't say she was very interesting to me at all.
Just that book was half that.
Any change to firefly would ruin it and all firefly fans know this troll or no troll.
Oh, you're probably caught up by now, but the sexual tension in seasons 1-4 is now replaced by happy sexy times.
Except the finale but how about we don't talk about that.
It makes me upset (goddamn cliffhangers)
Browncoats unite!
She's not necessarily boring. She's sassy.
@SerenityScore and the point goes to you for this discussion. well said.
well she may be the most boring character in the show but at least its a good song
;)
Horrible.
