    My observations......
    1. The first trick (x^n f(x)) is not valid for logarithmic and inverse function as it violates ILATE rule.
    2.The second one can be more generalised to work for any repetitive function like sin(x) whose differentiation repeats after some interval.
    3. The third trick is to coverup the inadequacy of the first trick.
    4. The third trick can be applied for inverse function also but doing so will be rather difficult than the actual method, so that's why it's not told by Nv sir here
    Please tell me if there are any other observations......

    What about inverse trigonometric functions in by parts?

    • @carultch
      @carultch 11 месяцев назад

      It would be similar to the example using natural log. The underlying idea is that you put the inverse trig function in the D-column, and when differentiated, it becomes an algebraic function. You can then regroup it with the algebraic function being integrated, and integrate by another method.
      Consider the integral of:
      arctan(x)*x dx
      Put arctan(x) in the D-column, and x in the I-column. Remember, as you integrate the I-column, you can strategically add any constant you want at any part of this process, since all that we need is *any* valid integral of the previous entry.
      S ____ D __________ I
      + ___ atan(x) _____ x
      - ___ 1/(x^2 + 1) __ 1/2*x^2 + 1/2
      Notice we strategically integrate x, not as 1/2*x^2, but as 1/2*x^2 + 1/2. You'll see why in a minute.
      Attach the signs to the entries in the D-column, and connect along diagonals. Connect the final row across, with an integral sign.
      1/2*atan(x)*(x^2 + 1) - 1/2*integral (x^2 + 1)/(x^2 + 1) dx
      Now, we can cancel the entire integrand, since the top and bottom are equal. It becomes integral 1 dx, which is x.
      Add +C, and we are done:
      1/2*atan(x) * (x^2 + 1) - 1/2*x + C

    How could we do it? Integrate ( sinx) × ( log x) dx.

    • @carultch
      @carultch 11 месяцев назад

      No elementary solution exists. You'll end up using Cosine Integral, Ci(x) as part of the solution, which is a non-elementary function we defined as Ci(x) = integral cos(t)/t dt from 0 to x.
      Here's how you'd do it:
      Let ln(x) be the function differentiated, and sine to be integrated. Set up the table accordingly.
      S _____ D _____ I
      +_____ ln(x) ___ sin(x)
      - _____ 1/x ____ -cos(x)
      Connect signs, and diagonal, and then integrate final row:
      -ln(x)*cos(x) + integral cos(x)/x dx
      Result:
      Ci(x) - ln(x)*cos(x) + C

      @@carultch Is it unintegrable???

    • @carultch
      @carultch 11 месяцев назад

      @@syedmdabid7191 Depends on what you mean by integratable. If by integratable, you mean a solution in arithmetic, powers, exponetials, trig, logs, and inverse trig (i.e elementary functions), then there is no solution. But if by integratable, you allow for any possible function that we can generate an algorithm to calculate for us, then it is integratable. We define the function "cosine integral" or Ci(x) for this purpose. It is likely evaluated with an infinite series behind the scenes, just as cosine itself is calculated.

    how to integrate
    sin(xy)/x dx

    • @carultch
      @carultch 11 месяцев назад

      No elementary integral exists. This requires Si(x), the sine integral, defined as integral sin(x)/x dx.
      Treat y as a constant, and use U-substitution. Let u = x*y, thus, du = y*dx. Solve for dx = dy/y
      Thus:
      integral sin(u)/(u/y) * du/y
      Pull y^2 out in front:
      1/y^2 * integral sin(u)/u du
      Use sine integral to integrate it:
      1/y^2 * Si(x*y) + C
