So an update from our trip back to Magic Kingdom this evening. I wasn’t able to book anything. The only attractions I saw available were Monsters Inc, Mad Tea Party & Dumbo. Periodically something else like Under the Sea, but was never able to grab it. I will make an updated video when I return on my full thoughts on the new system.

the whole point of this new system is to get people to buy it. We were just in WDW for 2 weeks (july 2-16) and it was clear no one was buying genie. How do i know no one was buying it? There were spots open for EVERYTHING even at the end of the day. That is, nothing sold out. So clearly no one was buying it. Also the standby lines were relatively short, meaning there was no one in the fast line to it down. Now that it's offered 7/3 days in advance, you're basically forced to buy it. As it was before, the moment you were in the parks, it was clear it wasn't needed. We actually bought it for the first 4 days (of our 14 day ticket), but quickly understood we didn't have to. So for the remaining 10 days of the ticket we went standby with no problem at all. So disney realized they had to do something to force people into buying their paid fastpass system. Just another money grab.

We have wonderful memories of old Disney, when you would have only short waits and everything was just spontaneous. We started going in 1972 and had been frequent, yearly visitors over the years. It is sad what Disney has turned into. I will never go again, nor will my family. When you have to pay such ridiculous amounts of money and it is such a chore it is not fun. Disney is digging their own grave. I look forward to seeing epic universe when it opens, but that is it. For the old time park experience go to Dollywood.

I have those memories too. I don't fault Disney for trying to make money, it's a business. But they took a subpar product and made it worse. Also, it requires you to be on your phone all day which is ridiculous.

Great video! My family and I did Epcot and then Animal Kingdom today. My first impressions of this new system = terrible. We used to do the parks with Genie+ with almost no waiting in lines. Couldn't do that today. :( Grabbed Remy for our first tier 1 selection. Once we checked in to that at 9:05 am, the earliest time I could get for Frozen was 6pm. With a TON of time on my phone trying to modify, I finally got that time down to 4:30pm. But since we wanted to park hop to AK before that, we ended up having to wait in the standby lane for Frozen. We did get a few rides for AK in the evening, but you are right: By the afternoon, all of the good rides are gone for the entire rest of the day. Lightning Lane multipass does not seem worth the money to me.

That’s my consensus as well. We are at DAK tomorrow, but at least it’s cheaper for that park.

I’m hopeful that the afternoon situation will be at least slightly better as things settle a bit. The first day is obviously more crowded and everyone is doing their picks same day. Overall, though, I am not happy with this change. Genie+ and the stacking capabilities were great. These people celebrating because they no longer have to get up early each day on vacay to make their selections seem to be missing the fact that, in order to maximize the LL system, they will now have to set their first LLs for as early as possible and will therefore need get up anyway. But now, they will actually have to get out of bed and to the parks ASAP instead. Personally, I’d rather set my alarm to book stuff at 7, then use refresh and stacking from the comfort of my hotel room and saunter to the parks when we feel like it.

You’ll get a much more accurate representation of how the system works once hotel guests start booking before everyone else

Yes for pre-booking but day of adjustments and additional LL shouldn’t be that different. And right now, it’s awful
