    Ingredients:
    Pastry Dough:
    4 cups (600g) of all purpose flour
    1 1/4 cup salted butter at room temperature
    1 large egg
    1/4 cup (230 grams) of granulated sugar
    1/4 cup of ground almond
    water as needed
    Pastry Cream:
    1 liter + 300 ml of full cream milk (LIQUID)
    3 egg yolks
    1 cup (120 grams) of plain flour/all purpose
    3/4 cup (230 grams) of granulated sugar
    1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
    About 18 maraschino cherries
    80 grams of coconut powder
    preparation
    In a bowl whisk together sugar and egg yolk set aside. In a sauce pan over medium low, add milk cook for 5 minutes. Add the sugar and egg mixture and the flour whisk with a hand whisk, add vanilla extract keep stirring until completely cook and becomes thick consistency remove from the heat and set aside to cool after half an hour transfer to the fridge and let set for 6 to 8 hours.
    In a large bowl mix together flour, sugar, ground almond, add the egg mix to combine. Add butter mix by hand until crumbly. Add water little by little mix until form a dough. grease a 12 muffin pan and 6 big tart pan with butter roll the dough 1/4 inch thick cut with a tart shape cutter place in the grease pan bake in an preheated oven of 400 F 20 minutes or until light golden brown. let cool completely. Fill a pastry bag with the pastry cream and in the puit d'amour shell spread coconut powder add one maraschino cherry

    Perfect , we Mauritians always like our pastries the way we used to have it growing up , so we always come to your chanel, never pay attention to dislikes or nasty remarks . Keep doing what u do , can’t wait to try some of your spices too .

    If I'm not mistaken the cream is a crème patissière but that is a weird way of making it. Better to add the flour to the yolk and sugar, give it a good mix and then pour in the hot milk little by little. This way you make sure it is lump free

    Thanks Laila for your videos I'm learning a lot. I got my boyfriend into watching your videos too 😃 We're watching from the UK.
    To those coming to Laila videos and making statement as to why she should make the videos in creole I mean you're not oblige to watch her videos, some of you guys are rude and so disrespectful and have the audacity to leave negative comments so prideful ! It's always the ones trying who tend to get the backlash ! At least she's brave enough to stand in front of a camera and she's sharing recipes for people like me to want to learn to cook dishes from Mauritius. Y'all need to stop and move peacefully.

    I made it and it turned out ok. The tart shells were not as light biscuity but a bit hard, I did not add much water just a bit to bind into a dough and put butter as written in the recipe.
    Also the measurements you gave for sugar and flour are wrong:
    - 1/4 cup of sugar is not equal to 230 grams but 50 grams.
    - 1 cup flour is not equal to 120 grams but 136 grams.
    - 3/4 cup of sugar is not equal to 230 grams but 150 grams.
    The pastry cream was too runny and when I placed the cherry, it was overflowing and I had to remove some cream. Also muffin cups are not ideal for puit d’amour, it is better to use the individual aluminum moulds. In the muffin cup tray, they become way too thick and big, they don’t look cute as the ones we get in Mauritius.
    Thank you for clarifying the above mentioned concerns. Please advise because lots of people will want to try and don’t want to be disappointed.

    Maybe they can switch to margarine if they’re on a diet?! Or they can eat in moderation?!!! Bit unfair to say it’s not for them!

      No my dear butter and Margarine has a lot of fat and if you read the comments on my video for Dholl puri you will see so many negative comments about to much oil that is why I said that

      Laila's Home Cooking - fat is not necessarily bad for us , I always use good quality butter in my recipes , the result isn’t the same as margarine

      Thats my thought too, we would prefer her to speak in creole than broken english. i do understand english isnt our first language but dear if you cannot speak english, then dont!!. Maybe you can put up an english subtitle below and speak creole. Then all your viewers will understand you. I'm not here to intimidate you but people will make fun of you dear. Hats of to you to have the courage to stand infront of the camera and your recipe looks amazing and cant wait to try it. Please think about it, maybe your upcoming video you can do it in creole.

    Your tart shell might be ready but i’m not really into it since your turned me off when you decided to turn the heat off.
