Yes, it's probably not a fair comparison to say that Singpore's effort has exceeded that of China. I also suspect that his statement was made before 2000 (and maybe even ten years earlier). China was only beginning to accelerate in the mid-1990s.
China sent battalions of bureaucrats to Singapore to study the Singaporean political and commercial systems after Mao's death and nefarious " great leap forward". When Deng Xiaoping became paramount leader of the PRC in 1978. China moved from a communist economy to a capitalist - socialist economy. " It's Glorious to be Rich! " declared Deng! To this BBC guy, the gold standard of Democracy, Human Rights and Freedom as defined by the West, seems non-negotiable and Universal. He just would not listen to other definitions as seen here where he would not let Kishore finish his argument. Is he so arrogant to think he is always right?
I guess he doesn't want to wake up. Just hiding himself under this western gold standard of human rights and freedoms. I live in San Francisco, every time I go out, and see those homeless living on the the street. Some politicians want to get those homeless to shelter, some will come out and opposite on. Put the homeless in shelter will take their freedom away. And the homeless live forever on the street. I sometime ask myself what is freedom and dignity?
Why doesn't say Singapore system of Government is superior to democracy because it delivers a very good life to it's people...better than the west? Why say something that it isn't... for western consumption?
Prof Kishore is always an outstanding and most knowledgeable lecturer and learner in our current history and modern world, and not only in Singapore but to the rest of Asia. He is also one well favourite permanent representative being picked by the late founding prime minister Mr. Lee Kuan Yew representing Singapore for Washington and United Nations in our early years. He speaks with sense and truth about today’s West and East of the world. During this interview with BBC, we could see that the interviewer is simply insular and refusing to admit that Asia has already become dominant than the western countries particularly USA and UK, for the economic and political significance and situations of the world. I shall also say more to add on is that today’s western countries leading by both USA and UK are still obstinately refusing to face the reality about Asia’s leading and lifted power. Personally, I am always interested to learn anything from Prof Kishore’s lessons and thoughts about development and situation changes on globe 👍🙏👏😀
There's 2 countries that learned China's model of Confucian-Socialist Republic with Meritocracy and adapted it into their own unique versions: Vietnam and Rwanda. Since then both countries' economies grew exponentially; especially Rwanda, it's now the safest country in Africa that's prosperous with a stable society. I'm not saying China's model is the best, but it's been proven to be the most efficient system that works wonders in China, that means there's something for everyone to learn a thing or two from and make improvements on your own country's system. But the West is just too arrogant for that. Clearly the Western leaders do not care about the people. Especially the USA, "Of the people, by the people, for the people" is nothing but an empty slogan.
@@ganboonmeng5370 I find commentors like you extremely hilarious. Singapore has a Dictatorship. Confucianism is Chinese; Meritocracy has existed in China for thousands of years. What China learned from SG was its socio-economic planning and development.

I agree with you. When Japan was strong and technologically advanced back in the 70-80’s, it did not do anything to help to develop Asia. It sided with the West and remains so. This is one of the biggest reasons why Japan has stopped advancing for the past 20-30 years.

You haven't defined political freedom here. Sounds like you have described life in Singapore. Have been there twice and agree with what you say here. Better in many ways than my life in the west. But I have Political freedom in the west which counts for a lot - but not everything.
@@Andy-P fair enough, so how about you keep yours and we keep ours? Do not come and dictate us how to live our lives ?
@@glowndark1 Totally agree. We shouldn't dictate. We can criticise like we criticise our own Governments. For democracy to work there needs to be independent institutions, law, Police, education, religion ect.. If they are not present democracy has a high chance of failure. Democracy isn't a switch to be turned on.
@@Andy-P This is a little off topic, but just so you know. In the US, bulletproof backpacks are available for purchase for school children. We have no need for that in Asia.
@@henryng7893 I'll remember that
While I do agree that Singapore did great and will be in the future, it is still a fact that Singapore is that one tiny dot in the whole world. Compared to large countries, the burden Singapore has is actually miniscule in comparison. I repeat, I'm not belittling Singapore's achievement but try magnifying Singapore to the likes of India and China and see how hard it'll be to actually achieve something 'together'.
Overnight China invited every transnational company to start operating in China in exchange for cheap labor. The companies loved it. Made trillions of dollars in the process; and still do.
- Lee Kwan Yew- Prime Minister of Singapore, in his autobiography
Indians are not really true Asians
Even our current PM modi is a fan of LKY..we all have our own set of challenges..Singapore did what it had to do and it achieved..kudos to them👍.they are the pride of Asia
Never mind, let them decay from within.
His not arrogant but a fking twat talking through his ass, typical western mainstream propaganda media.
Wow...great man with great heart and knowledge , Kishore
Lots of good information and well said 🥰 The last session with bbc was interesting 🤟 🙏
I thought it was a good interview to.
Got you! BBC full of biases
❤ to listen to Kishore's intellectual discussions, great to know his parents association with sindh, 🇵🇰.
He is sindhi
Three cheers Kishore sir. Hats off
Let's aim for a world of co-prosperity.
Singapore is the best form of Democracy, far better than that of USA. It's performance is the best
Singapore and USA are both flawed democracy. It is Japan, Germany, and Denmark have the best form of Democracy. China and USA are both imperialist.
It is actually a Singapore.model...which China adopted...
@@ganboonmeng5370 I find commentors like you extremely hilarious. Singapore has a Dictatorship. Confucianism is Chinese; Meritocracy has existed in China for thousands of years. What China learned from SG was its socio-economic planning and development.

Guilt-Free Mobility!! It's a silent but very powerful revolution & one backed by the Government as it's been declared that after 2025 no new ICE/ Petrol two wheeler vehicle below 150 cc will sell in India. India imports 87 Billion USD worth of oil EACH YEAR or in other words we spend 30,000 Crore rupees each day. Criminal wastage of money to buy fossil fuels which destroy mother earth while production & further spreads pollution, dangerous diseases & harms mother earth during usage.
Advantages are huge to our country from the perspective of energy security & competitive advantage, electric mobility will reduce oil import costs, lower trade deficits, & limit vulnerability to oil supply disruptions & process shocks, finally electric mobility will deliver a host of environment benefits , including cleaner air & savings of over 87 billion Usd/Yr. or 30,000 Crore per day.
From ten Lacs (one million) barrels of oil use daily presently, our decision to shift to Electric mobility, its guaranteed to reduce to one Lac (100,000) barrels daily by 2025 & further to 10,000 barrels by 2030.

Kishore is a great 👍
BBC westerner , what a shameful, he making fool of himself 🤣😂😂😂😂😂
Colonializm is akin to a misguidededly placed weed net over fertile earth. Now that it is being pulled away the wild flowers are beginning to bloom. The precient, hopeful observations and hard work coming from socioeconomic thinkers across the Asian continent in its slow but steady process of liberation is nothing short of beautiful. I could sit and listen to people like Kishore, Malala, and Vijay Prashad pontificate all day; their regional accents are musical, their delivery joyful, and they speak liberating truths which are the head of the hammer breaking the chains of the longstanding imperialist geopolitical order.
Remember what he said that the other option is war. Guess what option the US will take.
the three people you mentioned, none of them are true Asians
British Government wants to listen to the voice of the people and right of self determination all over the world EXCEPT in Scotland and Northern Island
There was a referendum in Scotland. There could be one in Northen Ireland if enough people want it and vote for political parties advocating it. BRIXIT has made a big difference there
Yes good answers have given to uk media by prof. Mahbubani.
Interesting to watch (14:40) how this interviewer turns into a rudely interrupting lecturer once his sensibilities have been aroused. People do just simply hate the truth !
With last sentences he owned the interviewer.
The end of this video was the most important part in contents 🤣🤣🤣 he asked a question but not ready to receive the answer 🤣🤣🤣 democracy, humans right my head
This man handled the condescending, self-righteous BBC host with class and steel of a polished veteran. I don't think the BBC would want to invite him back again after that walloping.
Japan is not rising, they are getting weaker, population decreasing, more and more old people, industry decreasing
Thanks to US for what they did to Japan. Yet Japan still happily to remain as US vassal state
Exactly. I do think the idea that Japan will be the 4th biggest power in the 21st Century is faulty.
read the graphs.....
japan will be in 4th place until 2016,
it will be China - US - India - Indonesia in 2050

Yet this is another best political show talk of Prof. Kishore Mabubane regarding the Anglo-West against the Rest!
When you do it, is torture, when they do it, is helping them to understand "The Law".
A Great Prof. Of ASIA.
Good job Kishore 👏 👍
in Westerner society it is full of double standard. Kishore had just given a strong punch to this guy..
God damn good! Kishore
Bravo Kishore M!!!!
The west to literally any other society be like: I shit this way, why you shit in a different way?

It's like their ancestors' belief in Christianity.

The BBC interviewer on hard talk was not interviewing but propogating western distortion and with no resspect
This is a western social media platform you can always leave.
But it was founded by Chad hurley, Steven Chen(chinese) and Jawed Karim(Bangladeshi) lol🥴. Which means the brain drain happened in asia will benefit the oh so western because of the creative thinking of an asian.
Bravo, Dean Kishore! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 I wish I had the chance to be under your classes in NUS. 🧡💙
Well said the last one was a gold standard.
So rude of the host to keep interrupting! Omg. Kishore Mahbubani has to fight to answer. So much for human rights.

Kishore is spot on. He's a man to listen to. However, I do think that Japan will not be the 4th superpower, and for India to be in the 3rd place is debatable.
@Sam what makes you think india's rising?
"Don't know what the people of Singapore will choose if they actually have political choices?"
^The guy who said this must be living under a rock. Worker's Party, Democratic Progressive Party, Singapore Democratic Party and then the more recently formed: Singapore Democratic Alliance and Reform Party etc...
Singaporeans have choices and they make their choices via their own considerations! The result is PAP won and they did a good job. (Though not everything they've done are morally upright or ethical.)
Well, there were six of us living in one room. Toilet was a hole at the end of the courtyard, infested by rats and cockroaches. Water from a well, etc. You can imagine how life was. Now I am blessed.

I just love this guy
Kishore is 99.9% right, but he underestimated the incompetence of the Japanese government who has led the Japanese economy in a long march of stagnation, and is about to be overtaken by Germany in the coming months, year.
To be fair, tons of people were mistaken about Japan's progress
New fan of this warrior.
Very very smart guy!
Beautiful.. Sir.. Salaam SHALOM.
Shanti Shanti.. Peace...
Well spoken and fast to respond to unreasonable questions in the last part by the smug BBC host.
BBC so rude and arrogant
Kishore crashed him. As always, freedom and democracy are fake narrative, white supremacy is the agenda. Like all western mainstream media, BBC is just trying to promote their government corporate propaganda and lies. The politicians and the ruling class are brought by corporate lobbyists.
Any video of this?
Kshore is like Sir Galahad! Purity of thought and clarity of speech every time he opens his mouth.
I wish I had 1% of his brain!
We argue country your country and Mahbubani's country is Asia with 60% of globe population. He is my inspiration
but asia is obviously not similar to each other culturally and racially. No one can act like Arabs, Indians, etc. have anything in common with Mongoloid/Orientals
❤
I might be wrong but does Japan see itself an Asian country? From many sources, I believe they desperately want others to think them as a western country and so ashamed to be Asian.
I agree with you. When Japan was strong and technologically advanced back in the 70-80’s, it did not do anything to help to develop Asia. It sided with the West and remains so. This is one of the biggest reasons why Japan has stopped advancing for the past 20-30 years.
