You could spraypaint the metal shelf in your cabinet. I think they make pretty scratch resistant spray paints

I was going to suggest this too. That metal shelf is so nice. Acrylic shelves can't handle as much weight as that one
Also, if you repaint you could put clear contact paper over it to protect from scratches
@@GoodGrowing A spray paint made for metal things outdoors, even barbecues (we have Rustoleum here, don't know if you have that brand there) is usually very scratch resistant... just a thought 😉
I really only watch RUclips. But, I do Patreon because i believe folks do more interesting, informative, and entertaining work when they have artistic freedom. So my vote is that you do as much RUclips as works well for you and other projects as brings you joy. I love watering and general plant care videos, and I really enjoy your collaborations with Claire. Keep up the great work!!
Yeah the freedom Patreon gives is quite nice! I'll defo still be posting as much as I can on YT, but that may only be 2 videos a week 🙃

Yeah I like watching your watering/dusting montages, it's helpful to see how I should be doing things properly. Especially with the cacti in pon I'd have never thought to leave them to soak....
With your cabinet shelf i'd use an anti rust metal spray it'd look brand new and keep the ventilation thing you have going on with the holes :) same for the bottom of the cabinet where it's scratched

I personally do not watch much short form content, however you post so much Emma that I don’t think you doing a little change up would hurt anything. Plus creating short form may introduce you and plants in general to a different audience, and as we all know in this community growth is a good thing. In short, girl you do you, your fans will still be here.

If your white succulent doesn't make it I suggest getting a dusty miller! Not a succulent but white and fuzzy and very easy care, it faints when thirsty! It's an outdoor plant but I've grown mine indoors perfectly!

I watch RUclips shorts, but I don't do tiktok. Every business everywhere has to adapt and change along the way. You're no exception. If the only reason you're changing it up is to keep it fresh and interesting for you, that's reason enough. Most of the channels I watch only post once a week. 3x a week is a LOT. Take care of yourself. It will be fine.

Ohhhh! I have ideas for you for short-form content! You could introduce us to a plant a day! Like, what the plant is, how long have you had it, what substrate is it in, care tips, etc. Now I just need to remember that TikTok exists and watch...LOL!

I’m another one that doesn’t use tic tok. I watch the shorter form content when I have a few minutes here or there, but I have never seen it as a replacement for long form videos. It’s important for you to do what you enjoy! You may lose a few viewers that prefer more longform content but you will likely gain more followers on the other platforms. I know personally, as a viewer, when a creator begins creating less content they kind of fall off my radar a bit… and when there are no videos to watch from my “regular“ channels, RUclips does a pretty good job of suggesting other creators… I know I have almost unconsciously shifted my viewing habits a bit when creators change up their posting habits. Maybe not what you were hoping to hear but just being honest… I’m sure you will be successful with whatever you decide! Best of luck ☘️
Yes I agree, shorter form content is in no way a replacement for long form videos. I hope that 2 videos a week (maybe 3 occasionally if I have extra time and content) is enough to keep you engaged with me but I totally understand if not. I do really appreciate the honesty though! It defo helps me making decisions like this

Hey Emma, I just cleaned my cabinet too and while it's not my favorite chore it sure is satisfying once it's done. 🎉 You're doing such a fantastic job! The older I get the more I understand how important balance is in our lives. You're in a unique situation being your own boss. Don't be too hard on yourself and allow yourself some grace to enjoy this season of your life. Your content is great no matter how many videos you release each week or month. I still haven't got to watch all your plantmas videos. 🤷 But I'm not going anywhere so I'll get to them and I'll enjoy however many videos or reels or stories or shorts or whatever the next thing is you create. 👍 Don't worry about disappointing anyone. That is inevitable. Lol Just be the best version of yourself you can so you don't disappoint yourself. I have been purposely trying to stear clear of the bottomless scroll for my mental health 🙃. So I likely won't be watch the short form content. But that being said the great thing about being your own boss is doing what feels right for you. I will be here for the two videos a week.

That's interesting with the variegated Burle Marx I only see them sold under the one label, but there's definitely an Albo and Aurea variety like I have one with white variegation but yours is like bright yellow lime.
About the short form content: I don't watch it very much, but I'm sure you'll get lots of new people watching if you go make tiktoks and reels. Don't feel guilty about doing two videos a week though. Most youtubers I watch make one video a week (or if they work on bigger projects, one video every two weeks).
Yeah I keep forgetting that 2/week is actually quite a lot in the grand scheme of youtube! I just got so used to posting more it feels like an odd step backwards! But I think you're right and it'll get more people watching plant content in general which is ideal for us all!

Great job on cleaning out your cabinet, it all looks fab now. I’m just curious, you had a lot of predatory sachets in there but still got a thrips outbreak. Did the old sachets run out of the predatory mites? I’m just trying to figure out how effective they really are? Thanks
The sachets ran out like 2 weeks into my 3 weeks away so I think they just went crazy in that last week reproducing. Honestly I've not really had any other issues with thrips since I started using the predatory mites preventatively regularly
Just spray paint the good growing metal shelf with matt black, it will take like 4 mins todo, then add a clear coat to protect it from future scratches you can also do the same thing with the bottom metal ikea, of course remove the shelves before applying the coats.
Also, personally I dont watch shorts or tik toks, I prefer good old youtube but you do you if you think there is potential there.

Is neem oil is good for mealybugs? thank!
Just one thing about the neem - as far as I know it doesn‘t make a difference between „good bugs“ and „bad bugs“?
I think the „bug killing ingredient“ is called Azadirachtin, which causes larvae to produce less Ecdyson, a hormone which they need for shedding their skin/shell. By doing so neemoil inhibits their growth and causes them to die and never mature / reproduce.
In my experience it‘s pretty effective, but I don‘t use it on plants hosting benefical bugs or on which I want to use those.
But maybe I‘m wrong and you have some other information? (: Because it‘d be awesome if that would be true! 💪

So that makes sense for when spraying/wiping but I was under the impression that once it's on the leaf and not physically suffocating anything, it only affects bugs that eat it as it reacts with a chemical in their brains, stopping them from eating/reproducing. I could be wrong in this but I've not had any issues putting beneficials on plants that have previously been sprayed with neem oil

I guess it could but if it got down to the point where I genuinely love all my plants I’d probably stop with that & have to seriously consider before getting more

So if the cabinet is full of thrips does that not mean the “beneficial bugs” don’t do anything? Not trying to be funny, I’ve never used them, I want less bugs in my house not more 😂 and neem is a waste of time imo also… just get the provanto out save your time, money and sanity 😆
I put the glass shelf that I took out in the bottom of my cabinet makes cleaning it easier 😉

As for the thrip situation, I have ordered predatory insects that actually eat adult thrips. So if the cabinet is full of thrips, the predatory insects will feed on them and hopefully kill the whole populations. The predatory mites I have in sachets in there are mostly preventatory and need to be replaced every 4-6 weeks, unfortunately this was while I was away so I wasn't able to replace them in time for the thrips to get out of control.
I'm currently moving away from provanto because along with killing the bad things like thrips, it also kills all beneficials including the natural microbiome in soil which is hard to build back up. So I'm trying to go a bit more natural in my pest prevention and treatment efforts. So far it has worked very well, just not while im away 😂

I use great white for the soil, it’s expensive but it’s like turbo charging your plants I’d never be without it now..

I dont use tiktok or Instagram, so I wont see your reels or shorts but you do put out alot of content so pulling back isn't a big deal for me. You need to keep yourself fresh and happy for your mental health.

I get that TikTok and Instagram make a lot of sense for creators and are very important. But personally, I don’t use TikTok at all and try to keep my Instagram intake at a low. I’ve always loved longform contend and it’s still my favourite thing to watch. But I totally get where you’re coming from and I also think that two videos per week are still a lot! I’m fine with that lol just please don’t ever leave RUclips, we need you! Haha 🪴🤍
