- Putting the "fun" in Fun One at Watkins Glen in my 1977 Royale RP24. Good battles with Charles Foster (2009 Piper DF5), Steve Roux (2012 Wyvern SR1 [custom chassis]) and Chip Van Slyke (1986 Crossle 62F). We ran the Long Course on Saturday and Short Course on Sunday. Fun was had by all. Experienced some fuel pick-up issues towards the end of the Long Course race and a broken coil connection caused my tach to stop working a few laps in. Great weekend overall. Ah yes, the eternal struggle of mirrors that won't stay put at straightaway speed.
Just as in F1 nowadays it’s all about aerodynamics. Look at the suspension hanging out in the breeze of the older FF, the higher, shorter rear deck, the angular bodywork. There’s just no way it can keep up with the modern FF on the straights and it shows on every lap. The only reason he’s staying with him is because he’s driving harder and doing a much better job through the corners. When you have to work that hard it’s easy to make mistakes and damage the car or yourself.

Is it me, or did the RPM gauge break at about 22:00 - 23:00?
@@Racecarlock Yes we had a connection to the coil come loose, causing the tach to stop working.
Those outside passes are something else.
The waaay to tall of a fourth gear is really hurting the top speed of the car on the back straight of the short course.
@@TonyStefanelli One to one fourth is the way to go, which is what is in it. The 2nd and 3rd gears being too short is what killed my speed because it forced me to shift into 4th on the steepest part of the Esses.
