Miss the old dublin of the 80s had grace and character
I saw my grandad in this
Delighted - happy memories
I remember as a kid scutting the back of the navy and cream buses from the terminus in Cabra west down Carnlough road and jumping off before the bus turned out onto the Cabra road,
And hopping on the back of a 22A to get back up to the terminus,
9-10 years of age!!!
No Fear,
No Sense,
I’d strangle my kids if they did anything as dangerous.
Being there, I sat on the fire extinguisher beside my dad as he drove this beast...
My grandfather drove these very same buses, i rode them as a kid.
I moved to Dublin in 1974. Already most of the old style buses were gone, replaced with the modern flat frount. Even then the old ones had so much more character. The heyday of style was the old buses, in green. The change to Guinness colours was already a mistake, and the next change to orange was a total disaster. Its a pity they didn't keep some of the old buses running. A school friend lived beside Broadstone, which was the graveyard for the old buses. He used to throw stones through their windows for fun.
my dad drove the newry to dundalk bus in the 1960 _1972
some of those buses are still in use as school coaches and rentals
Build to last..I would love to own one if i had the space.

I can remember R264 on rte 16 in1968 The 09 05 16 from Grange Rd was always a R type usually R586/591 but R264 was the bus that appeared one day . Ithought the bus was pre war ( ZD reg. ) In this photo Summerhill must have lent it to Ringsend.
Dreadful music..
Sorry you didn't like - when i made it, thought it went with the old photos (nostalgic)
