I am extremely curious about my DNA and genealogy, but I refuse to give these companies my money when they’re profiteering off of our data. THEY SHOULD BE PAYING US!

    Consider also:
The Government, especially the NSA, can then more easily get your DNA results from these companies than from you directly.

Like the covid antigen and PCR tests?

This should be a concern, and the comments in this thread are compelling. Should we fear medical facilities that draw our blood for routine tests? I have a friend who's a lab tech in a hospital. She draws blood, and the lab does the analysis. She knows for a fact that the lab disposes of unused blood as medical waste. Of course, that's one hospital from among tens of thousands of medical facilities throughout America. I can't speak for all of them. Of greater concern to me, and as is pointed out by some of the folks here, is the companies that do genetic tracing to allow people to learn about their ancesters. Absent actual proof, we cannot say that these companies are engaging in nefarious conduct. Nonetheless, there is potential for mischief. How can this information be used? For one thing, if congenital illness and conditions are detected in DNA, a person's ability to get health of life insurance or even a job could be jeopardized. And there is the privacy issue and legal violations of HIPAA. There's a lot here.

This kind of info ending up in the governments hands is the scariest part.

Your most private data would be things like your banking information, social security numbers, other records, etc. None of which these ancestry companies ask for or receive. So to say that these ancestry companies "are after your most private data" is pure fearmongering nonsense.

You clearly have a lack of understanding on how crucial your DNA data is...

@@badmanthings yeah, that's why out of Oprah Winfrey, Stephen Colbert Corey Booker, Condoleeza Rice, Valerie Jarrett, Bernie Sanders, John McCain, and all of these other prominent celebrities/politicians who have done these tests *out of all these years* not one thing has been done considering all this paranoia about these tests.

If you have a supposed genetic predisposition to certain mental, behavioral, social, medical issues, that can and will be used against you at some point.

@@JustMe-mn4gr If someone wanted to use "certain mental, behavioral, social, medical issues, that can and will be used against you at some point.
" they would actually go for your "mental, behavioral, social, medical" records.
You have no comprehension of how DNA collection and testing procedure works.

@@apgeneticgenealogylover6601 The point is they will go after you BEFORE you ever do anything to get any "records." They will go after you for having a genetic predisposition (which is unfair and unreasonable since one can have a genotype yet their phenotype may differ from the predictions). However, even if you don't naively give them your DNA, they can always just collect it forcibly or through trickery anyway, so it probably doesn't matter much in the long run. Those of us who avoid giving ours away will just have longer to be free.
