I never realized that fish could get the bends. How do you know after you pull it out if it has the bends or not? Also, I was told that some fishermen will puncture the swim-bladder. As a marine biologist, do you know if a fish will survive that if they release it after?
@@cynthiamartel4127 so lake trout are actually special amongst fish. They burp as they’re coming up allowing them to regulate much better than so many species. If you do reel a fish up very fast they look all bloated and it will even be visible out their mouth sometimes. With certain fish such as a Goliath grouper you actually carry a deflation device to pop the swim bladder allowing The fish to swim back down safely.
