So excited for a light-hearted series. Rode in the back of a ‘63Fairlane-no air conditioning unless you count Dad’s 445 cooling system ( roll down all 4 windows and get going over 45 mph ). Don’t forget that you don’t always need to stop at a diner-you can always get some sliced bread, bolonga, and cheese and stop at a roadside table along the way.

My parents took us to California on Route 66 in a 1951 Hudson with a canvas water bag hanging on the front end for the hot states. Still have some pictures but remember stopping in many small towns along the way and looking for motels with swimming poos. A great time to remember, but due to the many small towns, it took a long time to get to there.

So cool to see you doing this series-- I am always fascinated by route 66 and the concept of a kitchy american roadtrip. When you get farther outside of chicago, you should look into the history of 'sundown towns' along the route. A little more serious, compared to the kitchy roadtrip, but important history!

In 1964 my Step-Father, who was in the Air Force, received orders to Japan. We left from Prince George’s County, Maryland and picked up Route 66 in Missouri, I think, and took it all the way to California! We were in a 1963 Chevrolet Station wagon, with no air condition, of course! What a trip and quite the adventure for a 15 year old!!! Going across the South and the western desert, with all windows down was very uncomfortable, as I remember. Looking back to that time and knowing I got to travel Route 66 when it was great, is a solid memory. I have seen it since but it wasn’t the same. I hope you have a great trip!

Hi JD really looking forward to your take on this journey on Route 66 after watchng Jacob the Carpetbagger and Adam the Woo's trip a few years back now.
Really liking the humour you throw into a more light hearted subject video.
Having had the privilige a few times to stand in the American Cemetary on the cliffs above Omaha Beach, I cannot help but think about how many of those heroes came from some of the towns you will be traversing on this trip.
Just goes to prove how history is never far from our daily lives and travels.
Safe travels to you from the UK.

Then I glance over when you said they had an extensive menu at the chicken place, and I see 'Chicken Pot Pie' GLARING at me..... you've GOT to be KIDDING me.... now I can't stop thinking about having chicken pot pie......!! Guess what I'll probably fix for supper tomorrow night?? 😂😂 (thank GOODNESS I have all the ingredients to make it, too!)

Can’t wait to see your journey on Route 66. Another RUclipsr, JustinScared, I watch is also doing this journey with his teenage son, but starting from Cali to Illinois.
My mom drove the Mother Road back in the 1950s. One of her friends asked her to drive a cool 1950s roadster (sorry I don’t know the model) back to California after they found out she was headed back to Cali as well. She said she was happy to help them out. My older brother and sister were under 5, but my mom the adventurer, was always game for a road trip. She said it was a blast to drive this convertible to California for her friends. My mom passed in 2017, but even into her 70s, before macular degeneration kept her from driving, she loved to get on the open road and drive to visit family and friends. She loved travel via a car or train the best. She lived to be in her mid-90s. I got to take her to Oatman a few years back before she passed and she said it was nothing like it was back in the 50s. I can only imagine it was not the tourist trap you see now. My husband and I are planning a trip next summer on Route 66. Have a blast JD on Route 66. Can’t wait for your next video.
