I like your style of playing the guitar. Each of us, who plays the guitar seriously for forty years, builds his own style or way of playing the guitar. Your style is top-notch because you play several musical styles. And every tone you make on the guitar is clearly and cleanly heard.
This was by FARR the most helpful video I have found as a practice routine. As a self taught 16 year old one thing I've struggled with isn't the physical issues, more the knowing which route to take next or how to effectively gather everything and work on it - this has been no end of help! Can't thank you enough! I'm not one to sub after one video, but had to after this! Thanks so much!
This guy is spot on . I really like his down to earth, tell it like it is attitude. I will subscribe and what and learn everything he is talking about. It takes time devotion and thousand of hours to get really good at guitar. People who do not have self discipline will find it difficult and give up trying to learn. They want to be rock gods and soon as they pick up the guitar and this just isnt going to happen. Thank you so much for devoting your time on you tube to teach and share your knowledge!!!! you are awsome!
Great video - I am 67 in a couple of months and, for the first time in my life, will learn to play lead with your courses, Charlie (I have played other styles for 55 years)
Thank you for this. I have been playing for over a year but i found that i was just losing my time without something like this. I'm really excited to work with this, thank you!
Amazing man been stuck in a rut the past few years. This video is after really helping me get back into it and remember why I picked it up in the first place..Results are the best motivation!! So simple but so true thanks man :)
Oh yeah, you got plenty of money? Eddie H Has a 6 week course for a dollar. It sounds really interesting, but check the details. These characters boast over a million members. That's a lot of money @$1.00 I looked into it and they try to huckle you into a $27 a month course . I am disappointed to say the least. I'm not a feeble old man, but I've heard alarm bells ringin. But I might be wrong.
Oh duuude! You've come on the right time!! I'm a newbie. Started relatively 2 weeks ago. I've been just playing around with some chords and learning to switch between chords. But I felt I wasn't doing things the way they're supposed to be done. So, I started searching on how to make a guitar learning schedule to get the most out of my time. After getting upset with all the other content on this matter, here you come saving me. Thanks a lot. This's been really eye-opening to me.
I've taught guitar for maybe about four years and this totally puts into words what I tried describing for my students for the longest time. Thanks for the very concise explanations and order of EMA - hope you guys don't mind if I take this and teach this to other players!
Good stuff. What really helped me was private lessons for a while with a local rock musician and teacher. Also books and videos are useful for exercises and guitar tabs for learning songs.
You're welcome and learning songs as the focus really makes practice effective and fun because theory by itself is not great. Context makes guitar worthwhile so why do so few teachers not teach songs and methods to play these?
Thanks for taking the time to share this. Using this method, with some dedication and honesty I hope to get over the " block" in my playing more fluently.
Thank you so much my friend. There is so much free value in this video that it's mind-boggling. Wish you'd point us to your online course -- I'd buy it, lol. Thanks again man!
Gday from aus 🐨 Thank you. I have dabbled with guitar for many years you have certainly inspired me to find out what i dont know and practice daily. Many thanks for your time. Liked and subbed.
Great lesson Man. I started to play guitar at 51 and now I am in an intemediate stage but at having fun playing I think I am the best in the whole world. This is the kind of lesson I enjoy the most.. PS.. I am really curious about your accent. New Zeland? PPS : Subscribed!
Thanks, Charlie, you summed up just exactly why I signed up, been playing awhile, starting to get more into sound, studio engineering, can play by ear along with lots of players, the guitar feels comfortable to me, not always on point with where up and down the neck to move next when I play alone or with loops or backing tracks, sometimes, lost in some of the theory, and tab reading, what 3rds and 5ths are ,play some scales and natural and bar chords, but want to learn more still, but proficient with the ones I know, pulling it up, looking forward to getting started with your courses form the beginning, I play and toy with lots of lyrics, want to start putting them to music, and recording more, but the whole structure you speak of is just what I'm aiming at also, 👌 ,there are 3 sites on line, I have signed up for, yours and 2 others one covers lots of grateful dead, the other I just liked his playing, been real busy, but I live in a house sounded by it all the time, I own, 2 acoustics, 13 electric, from solid to semi, and a bass, from gretch to fender, all my favs, thanks again, by the end of 2021 planning several significant goals, in music and work, my first love, music.
Goal=play any song! What do I suck at= everything. Great info but I need some exercises to start with. An athlete does push up, squats sprints ect. Please where do I begin? Pick up the guitar, tune it then??? Scales, chords? Yes total noob day 3 and a bit overwhelmed by all the info. I need a starting point to work on and branch out from there. Great video btw. Thanks
I recommend Steve Vai and John Petrucci books they have tons of good exercises like scales and chord progressions. I also recommend Paul Gilbert he has some videos and books that walk you thru tons of useful exercises. Troy Stetina also has decent books.
Yup make songs the focus- my goal is to master 50-300 cover songs in classic rock, blues and metal so I can join or form a band and then eventually create my own music. Learning songs from memory start to finish is DIFFICULT. Especially Van Halen and Cannibal Corpse as they play SUPER FAST and use advanced shredding like tapping and 200-300 BPM.
Great vid and tips my friend! Maybe instead of "theory" we should call it "craft" ... I think Herbie Hancock said that if I'm not mistaken and it totally enlightened me. Theory scares people off while developing your craft actually make them want to learn it.
lol my friend has this no-theory attitude. He thinks that learning theory will stifle his writing by putting a set of rules on it but in reality most of his riffs are variations of 0-3-5-6
AWESOME!! AWESOME!!AWESOME!!! Been having massive trouble in this area. actually have fallen into a rut. could it be this is the rope too pull me up up and away!! Thanks so much Charlie.
you will have you hands full with me i got my first guitar win i was 10 after a month or two i just quit . my 40 birthday i bought a Charvel and practice every weekend i irrated my wife so it got put in the closet for 25 years or more. at 63 out of the closet. now i'm 70
I was born into a musically talented family, but I am defective. I have a tin ear and no natural talent. Bar chords have been impossible. I really need them to play with my family.
I have been playing guitar for about 4 years now, and never really bothered to actually learn what key im playing different chords/scales and whatever. I really want to learn scales and chords the proper way, and learn thereoy and sightreading. What should i do? I know the like 1 scale and thats the E major pentatonic, but i want to learn most of the scales and learn the actual thereoy behind them. Same goes for chords. I cant really find any good youtube videos about my problem I need to develope a everyday practice schedule, but i need to know what to practice to "solve" my problem
I only practice 2 minutes of exercises because I can only handle 2 minutes of theory. Kidding. But, I've been messing around with guitars for 50 years and still, I'm just an advanced beginner.
I don't understand what theory is, like we say i learn a scale today then tomorow it isn't new anymore and should go into exercise? What is it im not getting?
My problem is I don’t know where to start with theory. My muscle is great. Can play periphery styles but I don’t know what I’m playing. I write using my ear and knowing like one scale lol.
Guitar Mastery Method this I understand haha. I’m just delving into chords and different scales etc. I’m just not sure where to start and how to progress with connecting the dots :)
I've already figured that out. I decide to go ahead and try it, and i'm already seeing results. This practice routine is amazing! You're a awesome teacher! Keep up the good work!
What do I suck at hmm?? Guitar LOL. No seriously I suck at memory. I will learn a song and I can forget it completely. Or I will be playing it perfectly for weeks and one day I will sit at the guitar and completely forget how to play it.

This video is made so professionally
