    Dear Mr. Dove.
    Until recently, I didn't know anything about you and your wonderful creations.
    I lost my heart to Chypre Extraordinaire.
    Never in my whole life have I smelled such a fragrant firework of noble notes.
    I've smelled a lot of nobels fragrances, but never anything like that.
    Chypre Extraordinaire smells of flowers, resins, powdery, woody but also of fruity notes.
    You can tell which category this fragrance is based on.
    This fragrance takes time to develop.
    Chypre Extraordinaire sends your thoughts on a journey.
    You can tell a masterpiece was created here, out of love and not out of commerce.
    Thank you very much for this soul comforter as a fragrance.
    I love your wonderful, familiar voice that sounds so rustic.

    The one "what makes a scent masculine" question was a good one for me.
    Very well explained sir.
    In a basic sense, I guess it all boils down to scent being subjective and the open mind.
    But, on the other hand, thank you for continuing the productions of pour homme and pour femme distinctions (or what is perceived) in your collections. 😬
    Thanks for your endowed passion and contribution to this artistry.

    • @ellenmeilee
      @ellenmeilee 4 года назад +1

      Tommy Milton that was my question! And I asked because I find it interesting that Sir Dove makes male and female versions of his scents, unlike, say, Tom Ford. But in another video he also explained that in some countries men will only buy if the label says Pour Homme.

    Almost five months from your last video. I hope you had a lovely Christmas and all the best for the New Year. I took the plunge and am now the proud owner of Enigma Cologne. I was holding out to be able to buy it from your Mayfair shop, but due to all this Corona mess, I was unable to. Your fragrance arrived with an additional full travel atomiser and a complimentary travel atomiser containing my choice of fragrance ( Oceana). All very generous. I am a champion of the Roja Dove brand and you as a wonderfully talented creator. Wishing you every good fortune for 2021.

    Dear Roja, I just happened to come across your channel this evening, although I'm now subscribed. So kind of you to take the time to answer various questions with such detailed explanations whilst so humble. I got into scents approximately a year ago and have been building a small collection, to include designer and some niche. Although not recommended to do, I did 'blind-buy' a couple of designer colognes (after watching reviews) which I regretted, as they were not for me. However, I admit that I also blind-bought Roja Dove ELYSIUM, and besides being really impressed with the beautiful bottle, packaging AND the unexpected full, classy and generous size glass travel atomiser, I was amazed at the smell. From the opening notes, to middle and base, great projection and longevity, I was so pleased, especially as the days and weeks went on, as I was able to wear Elysium a number of times and it is just so enjoyable to wear. I have certainly received compliments and it is actually my wife's best scent I own, even far more than my PDM (L'yt), C'rd Av's & others. I'm looking forward to eventually trying Roja Dove DANGER. It's also great to see such a high quality unique range from the UK (where I'm also from), instead of the usual France, Italy, USA, etc. No disrespect at all though. 👏👏👏👏👏

    The story of Noir is absolutely wonderful!
    You didn’t sound arrogant at all saying you would wear your own work. If you won’t wear it why would we:-)
    I couldn’t agree more on the topic of gender in perfume. I might be classified as a “typical masculine” man and I will absolutely wear white florals. Also Jasmine is a note I adore and it smells beautiful on my skin as does Iris. I agree completely! I wear what I feel.

    Love the comment about the acute sense of smell some people have. My 11-year-old has been picking out the light notes in my perfumes for a long time. We used to go to the stores testing fragrances and she would smell the notes I could not and the Sales Associate had no idea the fragrances had the notes in them until we looked them up. Even the knowledgeable SAs at the Tom Ford our Bond counter as Saks. Really? then they look it up and "Wow, you are right." If I am not mistaken Roja has been at Saks in Troy Michigan where we often go to test new fragrances together.

    Hi Roja, it really is a joy to watch your videos and as someone who is a huge fan of your creations ( enigma, reckless, danger, oligarch, elysium pour homme and vetiver pour homme in particular are ones my wife really loves on me, both in our early 30's ) it truly is a pleasure to find so much scent variations within your line and there are so many more I am keen to get my nose on :). If you don't mind me asking, how do you make a parfume so velvety smooth? It's something that so far I am yet to find in any other line and it's why your perfumes are a favourite of mine out of the 120 or so I currently own ( mostly niche with some designers ). Vetiver extrait / pour homme in particular has this almost velvety / buttery feel which is absolutely divine. Thanks in advance Roja and hope your staying healthy and well!

    • @rojadove4680
      @rojadove4680  3 года назад +1

      Thank you so much! To answer your question, the velvety quality would likely come from plenty of warm materials. But if you are talking about the entire breadth of the collection, then perhaps it is more to do with the quality of the materials as a whole? Rx

    • @shq1723
      @shq1723 3 года назад

      @@rojadove4680 It's such a pleasure to hear back from you Roja and I really appreciate you letting me know :) yes I would say that I have experienced this throughout the breadth of your collection thus far, particularly in the heart of the perfume where it literally feels like you are wearing a velvet blanket, very encompassing and euphoric inducing.
      Hopefully later this month i'll be purchasing haute luxe as after sampling it today I have completely fallen in love with the rich complexity and artistry that has gone into making this. I am yet to try musk aoud absolue précieux as well as de la nuit 3 however these are certainly next on my "to try" list. My wife is here with me now ( she can see my excitement to have received a response from you haha ) and is wondering that as someone who enjoys smelling semi sweet / smooth / aromatic scents on me is there 1 in particular you would recommend out of your collection that would be worth a try outside of the ones previously mentioned?
      Thank you so much again for your time Roja, this is quite incredible for me actually as you are genuinely my favourite perfumer in the industry so to speak with you directly is such an honour:)

    Hello Mr. Dove!
    I have through your creation Diaghilev yet again fallen in love with chypres, a genre I had strayed away from on account of weakened reformulations of age old classics.
    I look to your creations to discover the lost grandeur of classic perfumery, my favourite Guerlain happens to be L'Heure Bleue, and I cannot express in words how much the essence of this perfume moves me...
    My request and query is that might you be able to point me towards a creation of yours which harkens back to vintage L'Heure Bleue, I'd be forever indebted to you for your guidance dear sir...

    Dear Roja, thank you so much for your supremely informative videos. Your calm and deep voice makes it a pleasure to watch the videos.
    I have two questions:
    - Do you suggest any book to a perfume lover who wants to understand perfumes better?
    - I am a woman in my late 30’s living in NY. Until a few years ago I felt like a girl and enjoyed “girly” fresh scents for myself, like Clinic Happy or DKNY Be Delicious. But I feel like a woman now and those perfumes don’t feel right anymore. I’m looking for a daytime more sophisticated perfume, but not as woman-y & mature as say Poison or Givenchy’s perfume. Do you have any suggestions for me? Should I go warmer? Earthier? Less floral? Thanks for your help!

    • @rojadove4680
      @rojadove4680  4 года назад +1

      Dear Kiana,
      Thank you for getting in touch.
      There are so many books out there on Perfumery and I have shelves upon shelves of them, all of which have been useful to me in different ways. It really depends on what you are hoping to discover, as there isn't one set text.
      My recommendation would be that it is time to upgrade the quality of your scent, not the style of it. You can still wear a fresh and feminine scent, but it will smell more sophisticated as the quality will be better. Pop into Bergdorfs and explore what they have on offer - tell the sales people what you are looking for and they will be able to find you something that matches your existing and aspiring style.
      Much love, Rx

      It would have to be bright, light and ethereal. Something with gentle powdery tones but with aldehydes to create a sparkling effect. Possibly something most akin would be NüWa or A Goodnight Kiss, to be honest. Rx

    This is fascinating, thank you for making these videos! I'm a big fan of your fragrances and I'm very interested to hear you speak a bit about the technical side.
    I'm wondering now, if oils hold on to the fragrance, then why not use oil instead of alcohol? Especially since the skin's oil content varies so wildly among different people. Is it the fact that people would rather not get oil on their skin, and alcohol evaporates quickly and is imperceptible? Or is the reason more functional rather than just aesthetic?

    • @rojadove4680
      @rojadove4680  3 года назад

      correct - oil will just stay on top of the skin and create a sticky experience that stains clothing. Alcohol is needed to help the scent lift, so that it can actually be smelt. Perfume needs a blend of oil and alcohol to create the right balance. Rx

  • @BUMBAMEUBOI

    It is a pleasure to hear your explanations about fragrances. So much knowledge and so much general culture. I'm a fan of yours from Brasil. About perfumes and olfactory notes, I would like you to know that, like you, I am also an eternal Leather note fan. Either used as a note or as a scent accord in the composition. I would love to hear from you how Leather notes are created in perfumery. As far as I know, it would be some ingredients such as Cedar, Oud, Saffron, combined to create the odor similar to a tanned leather skin. For example, the interior of a new Rolls Royce car has odors that make me completely crazy. They are wonderful and noble smells by nature that would not even be classified as fragrances. Smells soft and at the same time strong. Is there anything similar in your wonderful collection of fragrances? Unfortunately, here in Brazil we have very little access to super special perfumes such as the Roja Dove Collection.
    Success and a big hug, in the size of Brazil!

    I hear you are the best perfumer on the planet (from many sources). I'm Luc. My question is, "after you retire, someone will be considered the best on the planet like you; would it surprise you if that person was not classically trained?"

    • @rojadove4680
      @rojadove4680  3 года назад +1

      That is very kind. I think there are many many people more talented than I, but it is nice of you to say.
      What are my feelings toward the idea of the best person on the planet were not classically trained? Well, I think that would be great. Not that it is a measurable thing, but I don't think that where and how someone was trained qualifies them as a contender for this accolade - it should all come down to talent, passion and hard work. It would be like saying only people educated at Oxford or Cambridge could be considered the best academics in their field - what about all those brilliant minds that went elsewhere, or didn't even go to university? That's an outdated way of thinking. And whilst I am eternally grateful for my training, I do realise that it isn't the be all and end all.

    Where would you recommend a man spray your fragrance when wearing a suit and tie?

    • @rojadove4680
      @rojadove4680  3 года назад

      Hello - I recommend spraying on the insides of the jacket, so the scent disperses with movement. But if you are wearing a white shirt underneath then it is best to spray the inside of the jacket whilst it is on a hanger and waiting for it to dry, just to ensure no oil is transferred onto the shirt.
      Another recommendation would be to spray scent on the tops of your hands. When wearing a shirt, the typical places to apply scent - the wrists and neck - aren't as exposed, but I always spray my hands anyway, as it gives just the same effect.
      Also feel free to create a light mist in the air and walk into it, so it settles gently onto the jacket. Just never spray too directly onto materials to avoid staining. Hope that helps. Rx

      I don't think that's a question I am really able to answer, I'm afraid. I put so much time and care into each scent I create, and will only release them to the world when I am 100% happy with them. Sometimes they can take me years of work. So it's kind of like asking which of your children you like best.
      Perhaps I can counter with an answer for which scents I have been blown away by the world's reaction to? I remember thinking Sweetie Aoud would be a very particular taste, but people - especially men - went crazy for it. Sometimes a scent can surprise you with how it captures an audience, but I really don't create things either for a mass-market audience, or a very very niche audience of a small handful. I simply create what I want to create. Rx
