Ash is super right, in the start of the episode you see the Nami fan taking off her glasses to look like Nami, so her putting them on at the end and being more herself was really great.
This episode does wonders to make Luffy & Straw Hats feel like myth/legend even more so than they already are... Honestly after this episode, we gotta respect fodder for living & struggling in this crazy world. It's disrespectful to call them that anymore! 😂And seeing the scale of OP events through regular person POV is insane. Makes it all feel so grand!
This incredible gift is a love letter to fans and I'm so happy that even people who aren't caught up can watch. I spent most of Sunday watching reactions to this after I watched it. I got pretty dehydrated.
Hopefully others mention this, but this ep isn't what ALL One Piece animation has been like lately. Overall animation *does* improve quite a lot but Toei up to this point has only had the movie-quality flowing bits like this episode for short emotional segments or esp. high profile fights. Fan Letter was a special treat because of the combo of Megumi Ishitani and Masami Mori doing direction and art design. These two also worked on a legendary ep you're a long way away from, episode 1015, and Ishitani did the most recent intro to the show (not sure if Mori worked on that one), which is also amazing (but of course full of spoilers). The art style in Fan Letter is also different from most episodes, and I've heard can be credited to Mori. The highly expressive and symbolic direction is unmistakeably Ishitani. Toei has been under a time crunch continuously for years on a weekly schedule with very little whole-episode filler since the time skip. Episodes became very stretched out for a lot of arcs. Now they're condensing & upgrading Fishman Island (and hopefully more beyond that in future) to show what they can do when they have time to cook.
The second paragraph is quite misleading considering how many animators since Wano have praised the schedule and management. People like Vincent Chansard even said that the schedule is better than in many seasonal shows.
17 years old kid Luffy inspiring the marine brothers was truly touching. Since I also have a brother, it makes me really emotional and make me more valuable for my brother for being alive. I'm living in one of the war zone right now. I always need to put myself Luffy's mentality to stay strong in my daily life. Life is tough. All I need is positive and strong mentality.

Btw this episode was directed by Megumi Ishitani, the absolute goat of anime direction out there and the responsable of the best episodes of the current one piece animation. So yes, this was aboslute gold and the quality in the current saga is like this, but the technical level of this episode is probably 50% because of her direction. Nowadays some episodes reach this level but I think what you saw here is top notch op and may get your expectations too high for the anime ahead
I'm not sure if this is at all the type of content you would want to make but i do think it would be interesting to see your reaction of the reedit of fishman coming off the heals of watching it for the first time. I feel this is a historic event and the perspective would be hella interesting.

A lovely tribute to a series entering its 25 anniversary....but also a love letter to the OP Fandom! Stellar animation and characters who live in the world of pirates loving thier loves outside of Treasure Hunting and Bein pirates! Loved it as well as the Star Hats singing the timeskip 1st OP song....i love Robins part the best! I wish they made a spinoff of people living thier lives while all the crazy things the pirate world experiences!
I mean a lot of animators on this special have regularly worked on the show since Wano and many of them have done even more impressive work there. But obviously this much character acting is even impossible for a seasonal show on a regular basis.

Also this was around the time it was rumored that Netflix was shopping around different studios for their "The One Piece" project that Wit Studios ultimately got hired to do. ALSO, this was around the time Wit dropped the final season of Attack on Titan and gave it to Mappa to animate. Lots of interesting coincidences happening during that time
And with how he kept flaunting that he was a higher rank than his brother in the marines, with the blunder of the whole key situation he probably got demoted
These fans could all be real people. And I don't just mean they could be people in the real world. I mean there are people in the real world who were influenced by this story, by these characters. The character development and the world building is so rich that they feel real. Important. Influential. It's not overstating it to say that One Piece has changed lives. This little girl is us. We want our Straw Hats to succeed and we would love to meet them in person but of course, we can't. So her getting to watch Nami from afar, that's the perfect ending.

However the anime looks incredible now and almost every episode looks incredible

While i am not a fan of ghe whol 6 month hiatus and the reairing and remastering a previous arc.....i understand its to give the animation more time to improve and give the VA's some deserving break time! Well turning a 52 ep arc into 21 will be an experience to be sure! Well the return in April had better be intense! Oh id they make a sequel to OPFL......i want there to be a Robin fan, this time! Loved the cameos and interactions with all the characters with the straw hats and that beautiful final scene with the girl watching Nami sail away, and the Marine brothers!❤❤

The nearest animation so far in the series that have the same quality as this is the opening episode of Egghead Island, and some few scenes, this kind of animation suits one piece very well. And correct me if I'm wrong, because of the 6 months anime hiatus, they might use this animation for the whole egghead arc
You're definitely wrong. This animation is near movie quality and you could never see it regularly in One Piece. The break, as far as we know, is most likely just a break. They'll probably have time to cook up some pretty scenes, and it's probably gonna look crisp for several episodes, but they're already using that time to edit fishman island, and I don't see one break changing the overall quality If they decide to change how One Piece is airing next year, switching it to seasonal or with regular breaks, consistent high-quality animation could be reached in the long run.

Unfortunately current eps aren't THIS quality (As much). They main reason people are hype is because its directed by Megumi Ishitani, a person who directs some of the TOP episodes in the series, that you'll eventually get to. You'll KNOW its her by the style. Very simple to this just tone down a bit. Also, for Fish-Men Island Arc theyre redoing it in the [Insert future Arc her] Style and condensing the whole thing into 26 episodes.
One piece Live action was really good! The reason for this is probably Oda's involvement in it. OPLA is def not like every other live action I can guarantee! Its not perfect but its fun to watch

But don't worry we often got higher animation highlights throughout the latest two arcs (compared to previous arcs).....and of course the average non-priority episode's quality are way better.....

And with this you've been exposed to the director queen Megumi Ishitani! You will see her amazing work again much later in the series when you get there you will know. Episodes she directs have a very distinct feel.

The live-action is actually pretty good. They make a number of changes, so you do need season one before season 2.
