One of the great things about the guitar RUclips community is discovering the great channels out there and the great people you get to meet. This month I have a conversation with Sam Popkin, who has a fantastic guitar channel and is a classic rock and obvious Beatles fan like me. He does fantastic covers of songs that we love and is one of those guys to endeavors to try to find out and put on display how the artists actually played / recorded these great songs. Also super interesting demos of gear. Love it!
We cover a lot of ground, how he got into guitar, how he got into The Beatles, a bit about gear, and more. Sit back, crack a beer or drink of choice, and hang out with us.

Recently learned "I'd Have You Anytime" from his site. Never got around to learning that song from All Things Must Pass. Always loved Clapton's guitar on that. I still learn plenty of songs on my own, but RUclips allows another person's perspective visually and is really a goldmine for any guitarist wanting to improve. Yet there are still so many intermediate guitar players who don't seem to utilize it.

Back in the late sixties I had been hacking on guitar ( by ear) first several years trying to learn what I could from Cream, Stones, etc. I bought an illustrated chord book for the Young Rascals. Regardless of the correctness of the music, it did teach me most of the basic cowboy chords. Then I showed a friend that I could slide an E chord up the neck and play different chords! He said “yeah, that’s barr chords”! I thought I had invented something!

I first heard the Beatles from the cartoon in 1965! I've been obsessed with their music (and rock'n'roll) ever since. Until The Beatles Complete Scores was published in 1989, nothing was accurate, or close. But even that book had millions of errors. Wolf Marshall did a series of Beatle transcriptions in tabs/notation with accompanying CDs published in 1998 that I still refer to. Until then, it was ridiculous. Thank God for RUclips! Love both of your channels!

I’m going to be showing my age here, but I’m an OG Beatles nerd! I bought my first album, “Meet the Beatles”, in 1962 when I was 11 years old & I never looked back. First electric guitar was from Montgomery Ward (does anybody remember THAT???) Bought a Fender Telecaster with a Bigsby in 1969 & had it for more than 50 years until I sold it to get a Les Paul. I still miss that damn thing!

I had a cheap Teisco ET200 electric as a first guitar. Then I bought a 68 SG standard, Lyra tailpiece and large pick guard, ivory whammy bar! And a 68 Bandmaster with the tall speaker cabinet with jbl’s

12 FOOT CHAIN, The beatles often used modal interchange chords and augmented chords which you should make a video lesson on which beatles songs used these modal interchange chords and augmented chords.

jesus h. christ that SG special is as beautiful as a woman. i'm a BEATLES nut but 'gibson' is the only brand name i'm hung up on and the SG was my fave even before i knew how to play.
i own a late 2000's SG "and ilove her" but she ain't as perdy as that one you got. i'm sure it plays great too but the looks alone that is like the perfect axe.

I think I bought that same stupid Complete Beatle book you did. Everything was in the wrong key. Where was You Tube in 1979?
