The long hair Nadal and pre knee tendonitis injury curse was something i will never forget in my entire life as a Roger Federer fan, if you know what I mean!
That injury caused him to be a hell of a lot more aggressive to try to shorten points as much as possible. Though tennis has caused him great fortune, it also caused him even worse misfortune as far as his body is concerned.

With the exception of that last set, this is maybe the highest level of tennis that I’ve ever seen in any match. The 2008 Wimbledon final and the 2012 and 2017 Australian open finals are the 3 closest matches to this one.
That epic, magnificent and acclaimed feast of non-stop attacking tennis between Sampras and Becker at the 1996 ATP Masters Finals final in Hanover was as great as anything I've seen in 52 years of watching tennis and certainly as great as anything in the Federer/Nadal/Djokovic era.
Gracias Rafa for all the incredible moments with you I may not have been able to watch all your matches but I am very grateful to see Bastad, the Olympics, the 6 Kings Slam and a bit of the Davis Cup you are my idol and Vamos Rafa !!!!!
That 2017 AO point was more important in terms of federers mentality getting over block against Nadal, but this point was far superior, angles, faster great running, great returns awesome winner.
@@Tradingdream11111 by 2017 Federer had figured out two things… firstly, as much as possible he had to make the points shorter against Nadal and look to finish the rallies sooner, but secondly, and more crucially, he perfected the half volley return using Nadal’s own power against himself. It proved to be very successful. You’d have to wonder what the stats would have been both in terms of their H2H meetings and overall grand slam numbers had Federer figured these 2 aspects out earlier.
@@msaw504 the difference imho is not any improved backhand, every single stroke of a younger Federer was better than in the latter part of his career. The main difference has been done by some very hard loss to get through, as this in the video, and from being coached. Annacone Edberg and Ljiubicic did help Federer to defeat his hidden ego, so he finally understood that you "simply" have to beat your opponent, not destroying (as he used to do in his first years) and defeating using their best weapons. This, but I can mention 2009 USO final and maybe 2011 RG final (where he started very good about this but ended as usual, and of course is a tactical suicide).
Todavía recuerdo ese partido, la garra que sacó Rafa fue sobrenatural. Un jugador con mentalidad de verdad, no como otros que gritan y dan salititos. Este si era un coloso.

@nancynoblitt4595 : I mean, Fed was always five years older, but Rafa is only a year older. Fed was still peak when Nole started winning, so his dominance can't be denied. Nole turned out to be the greatest, which is amazing given how incredible his rivals were.
young Nadal was an absolute nightmare to play against. just can't get past him.
Yeah you tried really hard
Yea but he was beatable ;)

Rafa definitely at his very best. Roger was out of his peak form but this was a very good version of him.
