      @criticalthinking5077 8 лет назад +3

      +Erik B You're a troll. Jordan is not 'protesting'. Being an activist does not preclude you from being an investigative journalist.
      Jordan has been gathering, assessing and presenting news and information at Standing Rock for quite some time now. He's interviewed multiple people and accessed multiple sources of information for objective commentary. That is journalism. He investigated the history and contemporary issues surrounding the water protectors and the govt/state. That is investigative journalism.
      Perhaps CNN or Fox News is more your speed for 'information.'

    can the Dakota government be sued for trespassing?

    • @dscully1808
      @dscully1808 8 лет назад +22

      What will happen, after this is over, is that there will be hundreds of lawsuits against the police forces and security guards for their actions, just as there were in all of the previous occupy protests.
      The taxpayers of North Dakota about about to pay millions and millions of dollars in payouts for the police brutality suffered by the protestors.
      Surely, you realize that the girl whose arm was blown off has a cause of action to sue them for all they've got. She will be a sympathetic witness.
      The teenager that they stripped and forced to be naked in a jail cell all night will have a legitimate reason to sue.
      There will be lots of lawsuits.
      If people would rather have taxpayer dollars go to pay for schools and roads, then they need to stand up and stop the military police actions in their states.
      This is not the last protest that we will ever have in America.
      If the state murders all of these people next week, protests will continue.
      When a democracy falls, the only thing the Left can do is fight until we're all jailed or killed.
      Live for something.
      Die for something.

    • @Novusod
      @Novusod 8 лет назад +1

      NO, you can't sue the government for trespassing. I will tell you why. What the common man thinks is private property actually doesn't exist. There is no such thing as "private property." It is what is called a legal fiction. The government actually owns the land and private individuals and organizations are only tenants on the land. Lawsuits over this have gone all the way to the Supreme court. The argument ultimately boils down to who is "sovereign" on the land: you or the government. The answer is the government is the sovereign and you are the tenant.
      The ONLY way to truly own the land is if you declare independence and become your own country. Unless the Lakota declare independence then they can't win. It is time for the Standing rock water protectors to pack up and go home.

    To those who say the pipelines are safe and no big deal, ask yourself this and be honest-- if an oil company wants to build an oil pipeline through the town where you live, would you be okay with it?

    • @WilliamMerzlak
      @WilliamMerzlak 8 лет назад +5

      Especially considering there have been over 200 spills in the last year. That's, kind of a lot. DNews did a great report showcasing the percentage of leaks a normal pipeline carrying oil 100% of the time will encounter. 2% every year. That's a stackable number. So that 2% rises to 4% after 2 years of operation and so forth. That's a considerably high number for the chance of a breakdown. This also takes into consideration natural movement of the earths crust. earthquakes, tremors and more.

    • @rutger5000
      @rutger5000 8 лет назад +1

      That 2 % will rise to 1. - 0.98*0.98 = 3.96 % and so forth not 4%.

    • @aswaney7449
      @aswaney7449 8 лет назад

      William Merzlak Yes, the pipes will eventually leak. The additives they mix in the tar sand oil to make it fluid are a cocktail of corrosive chemicals. So it's not a question of 'if', but 'when' they will leak.

    Jordan is a better human being for doing what he's being doing at Standing Rock, and i'm shocked by the images - that's the future of reporting; avoiding sensetionalism and truly triggering the emotions. This story is a shame for mankind, sadly not enough people know about it, keep up the work TYT, we need independent media more than ever.

    Why does the US keep needing "free speech zones" for things like this or during other protests etc? In New Zealand we actually do have "free speech", so our "free speech zone" is the whole country! Its so weird to me and others who dont live in the US. You care SOOO much about the 2nd amendment, yet you dont seem to care less about the US Govt eroding your so-called 1st amendment. Whats with that?

      tattoodtoolow - No, no, no, he's open minded and tolerant. Which is why calling someone names for a rather neutral comment is not only okay, but practically mandatory.. And if you disagree with it, it's because you're a racist bigot and violated the snowflakes safe space. Don't you see how this works? And that, is why Trump won, nice work regressives.

      @kdawg717 8 лет назад

      Jeremy - haha, no of course not and it should be obvious to any reasonable person that is not the point i was making. So I'll spell it out to you. That type of response, is a perfect characterization of the intolerant left, or the regressive left I believe the term goes. That is what created the power rods that fueled the Trump reactor. And you can spare everyone the childish jabs, I didn't vote for the guy.

    I'm native and from ND and can say for a fact that a lot of places are fine. Smaller communities are generally fine (with the exception of one or two who are more racist than anywhere else in the state) but Bismarck, Grand Forks, and Fargo are bad for racism. I look white and a middle aged woman was having a conversation with me when my dad walked up and told me he had to go with my sister to the car and that he would be right back, and the woman gave me a cold look and walked away with a sneer on her face. And she was perfectly fine before that. Dozens of similar stories just from my life. So does it surprise me at all? No. Not really.
