I think Duolingo will be a 1 day media hype and then fizzle out untill it reach true valuation. Currently I dont like the business model. ** If I want to learn a language I'd pay for a certified language class or I meet up with some people from that country.
As historically speaking education company have not performed very well and specially how good there so called gold standard is and does the unrivalled really unrivalled as what they are going could be easily be replicated in my opinion. Specially seeing more edtech from india and China are coming to usa and European market with very deep pockets like byjus have planned for usa expansion and is currently world largest edtech company and ya in 1-2 years it is also going to be public. How it will compete with it is the real deal. Just seeing how dominating byjus is has nearly 5x there revenue to around 28 billion and it's valuation is around 17-18 billion and if we see Duolingo it's it's revenue is around at most 200 million while valuation is around 5 billion while being in a less growth opportunity seeing what they do. They might be dominating in foreign language but in other like math and science and others the main revenue that can come is very hard to crack as other way bigger company are there with more money and better models. How is the revenue multiple justifiable is a question as the revenue to valuation multiple of this is around 20x+ while other edtech is way less if we compare both top Players like byjus or yuanfudao both have even less then 1x revenue to valuation multiple
Since I am first a second comment. Skillsoft , Coursera and Chegg all have better valuation than Duolingo. What is Duolingo P\E ratio? 1,800 Lol. Smells like sucka written all over it.

Thoughts on Jumia?
The app is fun but it's not a serious way of learning a language plus it's not a sticky product imo
Interesting! Thanks for sharing!
