I won't compare Rihanna's and Mikky's renditions of the song against each other coz both did justice to the song. Listening to Mikky's version is like hearing a whole different love story from a male's perspective of the lost relationship. Rihanna's on the other hand, is the Yin to Mikky's Yang

@@lizsmith1796 he did co-write the song… but with Justin Parker. Rihanna didn’t do any of the writing (in case you didn’t know/my apologies if you did) Mikky actually did a large majority of the writing whereas Justin was the primary composer of the sweeping, soul-stirring chord progression.

I LOVE both versions. Rihanna's video that features Mikky is much more poignant to me. Such a deep and beautiful song.
i like how even though Rihanna bought the song, she made no changes to it vocally if anything she was mimicking his vocal style because Mikky is flawless. I obviously love this one more :)

Genius, sincere, captivating and from 2 piano keys, a voice, a story shared to and for the people. Pretty sure this was pretty much complete section by section recordings, studio quality, but one instrument, one voice. Rare.

I saw you, Mikkey , last night at a concert for Borns and after you performed stay after having said you hadn't sung it in years my friends and I looked you up because I felt like something was wrong and all your other songs we thought were great but I wondered why we had never heard of you and then I come to find that Rhianna's version wasn't even the original and she had just bought it from you I thought was so wrong and it angered me that you never got the recognition you should have and the fact that there was an obnoxious group of people yelling out slurs at you after your first few songs not knowing who you were and lacking any type of respect but they sung along with you on stay which was your song to begin with but I'm sure they only knew of the version with Rhianna just made me sad and angry and I hope that you one day get the recognition you do deserve because I loved your other songs and me along with my friends thought you had an amazing voice

I want to ask a question about the original writing of this song. In interviews, Mr. Ekko says that he disliked the song because it exposed inner weakness. I understand that, and it is a beautiful song, and I can relate. I could have sworn, unless it's been scrubbed from the internet, that at one point, a statement was made that the song was written about an experience about church, and the church wanting to call us all out for our faults. I thought that was the reason the song was written in the first place.
I could listen to your voice on a daily basis and not get tired of it. Devine. And that face, well, it is perfection.

Saw him last night at the Albert hall. He's very talented and a brilliant writer.
Isn't it funny how Rihanna's version - a woman singing about a man - sounds like a woman so ridiculously in love with a man that it sounds a little bit pathetic, yet Mikky Ekko's version - a man singing about a woman - sounds like this woman is so desirable that he can't function without her?
It might be because of they way they sing or because of society's standard gender perceptions about love and emotion, but to me, that's why this version is better by just a sliver.
EDIT: I don’t mean Rihanna’s version sounds pathetic, I mean she evokes that of someone so pathetically in love in her version. Still an absolutely beautiful rendition!
Angela S but Mikky Ekko comes up on the second half of Rihanna's version that it balances it. It shows two people so in love, but afraid to want it or to need each other. Both versions are amazing, but both have two different tones.
Nah either way albeit intending towards a man or a woman, in my opinion it sounds quite romantic and valiant or unreal when anyone of either gender sings these lyrics.
