This girl is not just a killer but a dirty liar. She was never employed for two to three weeks like she has claimed. This 14 year old girl has being living with this lecturer and her husband even before his demise last year. This couple showed this heartless Joy so much love, as they couple treated her like a daughter as they paid her school fees, fed her put a roof over her head and always provided all her needs over the years even though she kept stealing from them but they always advised her to stop as they kept hoping she will change with time.
After the husband died, the killer continued stealing from her victim and even started bringing different guys to do nonsense with her in the house and this bereaved woman was grieving so even though she has patiently endured having this killer girl exhibit bad behaviour over the years with the hope of her turning a new leaf, she was mourning already and didn't need all the evil display at that time, that might have being the reason she asked to leave.
It is quite pathetic that the killer is the one giving a false narrative since her victim is dead and cannot talk.
But honestly, sometimes is better not to lend a helping hand especially if you have to bring a them to stay under the same roof with you.
If not for this kind hearted lecturer and her Professor husband who are all deceased, this wicked soul would not have even being able to attend school or speak English.
May our good not kill us. And may we never render help to those that will repay our kindness with evil even when they desperately need our help as their only life line, may we say a big No.

Accommodating people or bringing them to stay/live under the same roof with you as always been dangerous. Palestinians accommodated "Israelis" when they were chased out of Europe. In return, the Israelis started killing and taking the Palestinians' possessions.

I graduated from biochemistry department futminna, Dr Adefolanu is the kindest human being in that department, she is gentle in speech and always friendly...its so sad to see her gain publicity this way. She is a very lovely human, in a department of vampires in form of lecturers, she did stand out. I just pray she finds peace and her family get closure

Has it crossed the set of people that are victim shaming minds that perhaps Mrs Funmi was lonely and wanted to have a young child around that she can see as her child?? What if she wanted to add values to this Joy’s life….perhaps that was her own way of impacting in her community; it’s a shame things turned out the way it did. R.I.P to the departed 🕊️

Thanks Neze for your detailed update. I sincerely hope that this evil and wicked girl who masterminded the murder of her kind benefactor faces the full brunt of the law together with her accomplices. It’s just so painful to even hear some people speak of child Labour. Being the only child of my parents, by the time I was 14, I did practically all the house chores and at the right time too, including waking up at 6am daily even during the holidays, going to the market and cooking a few dishes, as there was no other sibling to share chores with.

I agree with you Neze. My mother, a teacher in Kenya, took 3 of my cousins- her nieces, one after another and she would educate my cousins in primary school, feed them, and cater for them, and when they come from school in the evening, they would wash dishes, help to cut some vegetables since mum cooks on her own, and then proceed to do school assignments. They did the chores that my sister and I did when we were living at home. My mother used to do this since my aunt was a single mum, quite poor, and she lived in an area that is not conducive for growing girls. Our home offered security, comfort and a safe parenting. In return, my mum had company and a child to send when she needed some (appropriate) errands done. Mum did not beat them or physically discipline them, but would lecture them when they do wrong. Unfortunately, when they all got to teenage and went to high school, they would rebel. They would want to be on the phone all day, or go out to meet their 'friends'. My parents cannot allow teenagers loitering in the village. We never did that too. At teenage, they would not want to live with my parents, and then they would go back to their mother's house in a rental room. Unfortunately, each after another, 2 of them ended up pregnant as teenagers, and then became single mothers, and the other one tried to study and completed high school but she is living with a man, that the mother knows nothing about. When some people take these kids from poor families, it is to raise them in a stable home, with discipline and safe environment, and they just do normal house chores (at least in the case of my cousins).

There's nothing wrong for the prof having such a girl of 14 live with her. She could have been her granddaughter. The girl wilfully committed the crime with those two boys who she brought to the house to murder the prof. She and the two boys should be ready to face the consequences of their action. I believe the two boys will soon be rounded up. At times this is what you get when you are good and kind to the underprivileged.

Can we Nigerians please stop to be westernized than the westerners themselves?
Employee's age in Canada is 13 yrs. With parents and guardian consents, they can do minor jobs, like babysitting, cleaning, shoveling snow, dishes, etc.
Let me surprise you even more. Babysitting course or training starts at age 11. This course will train the child how to change diaper, safety, and how to do First Aid when the need arises. After this training, your child can legally babysit another child for money.
In summer, 14 years old are everywhere looking and doing summer jobs to make money for themselves. This is to teach independents.

Dear Barista Nezze, I always look forward to watch your enlightening videos especially this one that tries to underpin the practicality of western laws in African societies. I'm a great advocate against child labor and the views expressed around application of child law in Africa, could not come at better time. The message is crystal clear, without social protection of impoverished households, enforcing child laws or any laws is pointless.
This reminds me of a case that I attended as 25 year old nurse at rural health facility in my country Namibia 20 years ago. I treated 10year boy with femur fracture after being physically assaulted by his uncle wife who happened to by colleague at clinic as well. I reported a case of child abuse to social workers but grandmother of the boy came to plead to withdraw the case because perpetrator was their in law and the family of the boy is to poor to feed children. Despite this, the perpetrator was called in for questioning because is nurse who is expected to protect and preserve life. After that incident she changed for the good because the professional body was watching.Your video is deep and we need more conversation around application of western law in Africa

Perhaps she just needed someone to keep her company that was the only crime she committed. it doesn't take long for a thief to gravitate to murder...This woman undersetimated this girl - she shouldn't have let her back in to her house and even before letting her go she should have reported her to the authorities or family she came from .
May her soul rest in peace.
we once hired a help and to our uttermost shock we caught her stealing severally via the CCTV,it was so bad that even after we caught her red handed stealing raw rice from the bag (in a case where all she vould have done was ask for rice to take to her family) she bluntly refused to apologize, rather she said " i mistakenly took rice because i want to go and cook it at home"
This was a woman who we paid 55,000 as salary knowing she had children and is married
a woman we would constantly give fruits and food for her kids , give her extra money for transportation evey week ranging from 5k, sometimes 4k,3k etc.
well,we thank GOD that she on her own, decided to run away and not return after she was caught red handed during the rice incident, she left and never showed up to work.
when asked by her sister who brought her to us why she stopped work she said " my body is paining me so i dont want to continue the work"
in all,we give GOD the glory for delivering us🙌🏽

Uganda is poorer than Nigeria however, child labour is illegal. This is one of the reasons why there are so many young people who turn to crime in Nigeria as they feel oppressed by those who are well off. It is child labour and those who engage into it will pay the price . This is not an African issue, children rights are protected in so many African countries.

This is so sad.. You try and help a child, only to be repaid with such evil. Who would think a child would have such thoughts. This child wasn't treated like a helper. She was given the job to be a helper. Something she would have done in her parents home as a chore. If anything this lady was blessing her with a education. She could have chosen to be a true daughter to Ms. Funmi.
No matter what punishment this child gets, she will live the worst prison, her mind. May God continue to bless his people, protect and guide her. May these killers know no peace.

Don’t mind all these people saying it’s child labour. Some of us went to boarding house in our secondary schools. We did early morning duty, had school mothers and seniors that we fetched water for and did chores for (occasionally), that has made us able to cope with life today abroad without any house help. I believe she really only wanted the girls company as she lived alone and couldn’t possibly have had so much work to give the girl apart from basic home chores like cleaning and cooking

I don't agree with those who say she deserves to die. Noone deserves that. Also, in some of the so-called civilized countries like United States, some states allow for teenagers from fourteen to work, case in point New York State. You can work from that age. Coupled with the fact that this girl that committed the crime was still schooling and so her work did not stop or affect her education. Unfortunately, the deed is done, and she will have to pay for the crime.

I'm surprised at some peoples' reactions. Are we trying to say that this girl action is justified or was the woman wrong to send a girl that steals all the time away ? What could she have done for God's sake? If Joy has been living with her parents and stealing as well, will they just be tolerating her? This young girl just wasted the life of a whole Professor as a chicken. It's quiet unfortunate.

I brought in an almost 15 year old girl to live with me I never knew her from any where she came to learn wig making I took pity on her cos d distance of her house to mine is an hour trekking through the wildlife park and I instantly pictured her she never trek cos I do give her transport fare daily to and fro and feed her as well I have a 15 year old child and currently rounding up her senior secondary school while this girl just finished her primary school. I wanted to enroll her in school by January but am scared of all this kind of stories let my hood not be d end of me one day, I am thinking of helping her from a far. I never knew her nor her family and she doesn’t talk and she is exhibiting some small small disrespectful behaviors to my workers and d woman who brought her here. I already have a woman who comes and do all our house chores and wash all our clothes and this girl don’t have to do anything. And I am afraid of people who don’t talk, she can keep quite for the whole day without saying a word. I feel bad for her because she is a little princess here but in her house she has to look for what to eat by herself and her many siblings. Am scared of d unknown.

Please help her from a far. She can go to a school that is close to her parents house, or stay with another relative and you pay school fees and buy her school supplies.

My dear, dont bring her in unto your home for any reason, only help her from afar and do the basics for her only and dont overdue for her, for thr fact that you have a child that is this same age with her, who is almost rounding up with college and she is about entering college will make her jealous and from there a lot of evil things might pop up

Likely she will serve as a minor in the juvenile prison till she turns eighteen. Then the full weight of her crime will come upon her.
People calling it child labour are unthinking. In Africa, it is easier and safer to have a minor living with you while you send her to school, than having a bigger and more wilder girl of eighteen years or above.

Her name is not meant to be Joy, there's nothing joyful about her, a child sooo full of evil, tufiakwa! May we not see evil with these helps. This is the reason why we don't engage them in my family.
God will help us to continue to do our chores ourselves, it's not easy but it saves one from all these helps and their evil nonsenses.

This underage girl planned with two friends to come to her madam house with an evil intention, if it was a friendly visit, she and her gangwill not steal anything while running away. She can face the Law ,she can be detained till she is of age to face justice,,.

Question? Does Nigeria actually use the rule of law properly or when the worst things happened they remember?
Does this girl in question has a parent or how does the professor came about her?
High school children work during summer in the western world just to mention.
People always take in children of less privilege and train them at least we give our young children chores at home while they attend school. The western world call it ‘foster care’. They only different is that, they go through the right channel to bring them in. And the same thing in some Nigeria situations, people go through the children’s parents and they agree( unofficially but aware).
May will not end up in the hand of these children without God fearing. Very sad situation!!!😭smh.

I think the case of the minor who poisoned her paedophile husband receiving the death sentence is perhaps more indicative of how firmly patriarchial and islamic interests prevail in northern Nigeria. The case of two boys and this girl murdering an elderly lady may be viewed less seriously. That is the message of an elderly lady's life being valuable may not be deemed particularly important to men in power. Whereas the message that girls must not kill the husbands forced on them would clearly be one they deem very important.

I am surprised at the reasoning of this school of thought re child labor. Our Nigerians are so quick to copy developed country with solid social empirical structure. Nigeria is an underdeveloped country, applying the law of child labor should not be an issue here.
she was stealing and you were quick to overlook the crime and start applying child labor law because you have access to internet.
A woman lost her precious life over a criminal minded 14 year old because she was let go because of her stealing.
Nigerians try thinking before offering your unfounded opinion
