Spectrum to TOPs - TouchDesigner Tutorial 8

- In this video, we convert an audio spectrum directly to TOPs using the CHOP to TOP and compositing. We then displace the outcome to create some sweet looking visuals.
I love seeing the experiments you create, so tagging is very welcome!

Im still so confused about Touch Designer but these tutorials help a bunch. Thanks!
the noise trick is INSANE THANKS
You're like the Bob Ross of Touch Designer and it's awesome! Thanks for the tutorials, I've only just started but it is so easy to adapt your methods to my own ideas.
That's an amazing compliment, thanks :)
@14:37 “Do cool stuff“. I can now that I’ve been watching your videos. Thank you so much!!
Having been playing with TD for 2 yeast, your tutorials are one of the most fun series.
this was fun!! thanks heaps!!
to set the resolution of the operators, I usually set a resolution to my parent container (like you do at the beginning of the video, 1920x1080), and then in all the operators that require to have that same resolution I type in the resolution parameters: me.parent().par.w and me.parent().par.h to recall the parent width and height.
That way, if for any reason I need to change the resolution of my work, I just need to change the resolution of the parent container, and all the operators inside that container will follow that change automatically, instead of having to remember which operators were supposed to have a specific resolution, and then manually go and change them all.
This solution works well for me, especially when dealing with large networks.
Fausto Brusamolino thanks for the tip!
Thanks a lot for the cool tutorials, defenetly gonna play with dat for uni projects in graphic design
Your tutorials are best! Thanks
Amazing tutorial mate (as usual!).
It's kinda hard for me to find tutorials about TouchDesigner. Great that you did all these videos. Keep it up! :DDDDD
Had the same struggles... Not a lot on RUclips :P I found this site, which is a mix of Text and Video tutorials: matthewragan.com/teaching-resources/touchdesigner
Love it! Love it! Thanks!
Must to keep on! ❤️
Indeed the best ellaborated tutorial - Thanks so much !
Hey, thanks for the tut! Really like this wavy displacement!
Genius, thank you so much 🙏

@@facundogambacorta833 interactive media art!

thanks a lot, your tutorials are greatly helpful!
Hey man, I appreciate the tutorials but would really appreciate it even more if you'd explain why you do some of steps you do. It's hard to grasp what you're doing and apply it when you don't know why you're doing it. Just some feedback for ya! Thanks man.
THIS IS IMPORTANT!!!
ya i was just thinking about the same , it does make sense if u dont know y are u doin this , copy paste is no fun

I understand everything, it's a matter of thinking I suppose. He just showed us his approachamd possiblities are endless. Sometimes it's about trying different things observing and research.
Great tutorial as usual!
really nice one, thank you
It's really cool!
this is amazing thank you!
Great tuts man!
Great tutorial!
Thank You!
Any chance you could share the file with me? Really neat stuff! I'm itching to learn how to do more in TD.
Thank you)
Hi Bileam, thanks for another nice video. One question: why not use the High Frequency Boost setting in the Audio Spectrum CHOP?
nidavis I do use that but with the Para EQ I feel more in control. Maybe I’m wrong though, I don’t know too much about it tbh
Thanks !!!
Great Work,BTW wonder the name of the music

When I try to give the noise some movement via absTime.seconds * 0.2 I get completely different values? Do I have to change some settings?
Hi! I love the final result, but there is a chance to make this a perfect loop? to export like a .mov of 5 seconds maybe? thx i love u r welcome with more tutorials
Not a very simple way. But check out polyhops tutorial on looping noise, maybe that helps!
This is really great!!! can i use it for my music project? (with credit of course)
Au Pif Sure!
Hi Bileam. The thing about the envelope math trick is that it's always finding a normalised value no matter how quiet the music is. So if my music is really quiet, the spectrum shape is still going crazy. Is there a way to have the spectrum shape react differently / grow with the volume of the music? Thanks!
Maybe you found out, but connect envelope and math to audiodevice out, then you have volume control from there.
is this possible with real time live audio (hooked up to a microphone) instead of an mp3 file?
Sure, just use the audio device in!
Hi Bileam love this tutorial!! Currently in the process of completing it, however I have a problem.... when connecting the remap to the lookup I get an error on the remap saying "not enough sources specified" why do you think this is??
There's no remap involved, I think you mixed it up with a ramp!
bileam tschepe no wonder 🤦🏽♀️ Could tell I had a long day haha! Thank you!!
How do I export my project with audio??
Hi! Is it possible to connect such code to the dj`s playlist to make an interactive visual performance for the set? I`m just a beginner and also can`t find this info in google. Thanks!
And also is this code compatible with kinect? So many questions)))
@@gazolinshitsa Yes and Yes :)
1. you can hook audio in and use output from mix to use sound as source. (and make some tweaks in values etc to be in control more)
2. you can use kinect values from like luma in cutmode videos and hookup tahm as source. I think it would not require lot of work to make it functional.
oh mamma. so I am totally new, just got TouchDesigner on my pc, and I do not know where to start... I really want to make some very nice visual videos.. help.
Have a look at my beginners course!

Abstîmes??
Helps my understanding. Could you please share the file?
How would you do to make the audio spectrum dispalce to geometry of a mesh ? Like Low frequencies displace ( increase size ) the left of the mesh and right frequencies the right of the mesh ? Like this guy ? ruclips.net/video/uasrqlcSvIo/видео.html
Thanks a lot for your tutorials
At 10 minutes, with the music, I can't understand what you're saying. Sorry. But why should I apologize?
