  • In this quick video, I explain how I set up my Quest 2 controllers to easily and efficiently interact with the virtual flight decks and cockpits in MSFS. I have had many questions during the live streams about how I configure the controllers to work with the knobs that have push/pull functions like in the Airbus aircraft and also the G1000/G3000 displays. I will also give you a nice trick that will allow you to turn knobs up and down quickly using the thumbstick instead of twisting your wrist!
    I hope this video helps enhance your VR experience and please let me know in the comments below if this helps you out!

    Ohhh, may God reward you for what you showed in this video ;-)
    This is what I needed. After years in XP, I'm trying my hand at MSFS. I only fly in VR and only use VR controllers to operate the buttons and knobs in the cockpit (except yokes, throttles and pedals). So, so far, the support for e.g. PMDG was a torment (basically the only thing that saved the situation was the mouse, which I hate to use in VR).
    You've made VR controller support fantastic now.
    Again, thank you very, very much... ;-)

    Great video for the VR community. Like you, I prefer to use the VR controller rather than the computer mouse while in VR. MSFS has such a poor default VR controller layout, I wonder if it makes some VR users just stop playing the game. BTW, if you leave the "VR - Right" default binding and try to use that, what breaks it is not random, but it's whenever you use the "Secondary" or "Tertiary" actions that you've also bound. When it happens you could make the trigger work again by clicking on the game window with your mouse (which is actually the same "Primary" action). Setting the trigger to Primary fixes that though, since it just thinks you're doing mouse clicks anyway.
    I use a similar layout with some differences. I use A & B for increase & decrease rather than the stick Up & Down. I think it gives me more precise control. You have Raycast Pointer Toggle & VR Toolbar on those buttons, but I use those infrequently so I just put them on keyboard keys instead. It's also been my experience that I don't need the Tertiary action, because the Secondary action will actually toggle between pushing & pulling a knob depending on its current state. Maybe this isn't the case for your airliners, but I don't fly those.

    • @vrsimpilot
      @vrsimpilot  Год назад

      thanks for the kind words and for the very helpful comments! I like your ideas about the increase and decrease actions bound to the buttons. For me, I like to use the keyboard as little as possible so I don’t have too many keys bound. And you are right - the tertiary action is, as far as I know, only used in the airbus where certain knobs have a turn action, a push, and a pull action. Thanks again!

    What control mode are you all using under General - Accessibility - Cockpit Interaction System - are you using Legacy or Lock?
    Do you find that using the thumbsticks to turn the knobs feels awkward and moves your hand off the control? Maybe X would be better instead of the trigger and and use the trigger and squeeze for up and down inputs?

      @vrsimpilot  3 месяца назад

      I think I'm using legacy mode, but I'd have to check. I'd make a copy of the control profile first so it's easy to set back if u don't like it though. :)

I can't for the life of me get it to flick up/down using the thumbstick (interaction increase/decrease) binding... while other switches DO work with the thumbstick.... in general, switches that have more than one position will work with the thumbstick up/down once you have the bindings set like in the video.... But, in the PMDG... this doesn't work for some reason with all switches... It's a bit annoying, but you just sort of have to remember which switches dont' work like this and adjust accordingly. :( Sorry, wish I could help more on this, but I also struggle with it! Can hands be used instead of controllers in quest 2? To use hands to control knobs buttons instead of pictures of controllers. I know u can do hands but it still show controllers pics on screen

      First, congratulations on taking that step toward getting your private pilot cert!!! One of the most rewarding things you will ever do!
      To get started with MSFS in VR - yes, buy MSFS. Recommend getting the official Link Cable. Then... join our Discord and watch the setup video on the channel. And ask lots of questions in the Discord! We are here to help you!!

    I'm wondering if it's possible to use the controllers on the flight stick itself...
    I own a company that makes gunstocks for VR shooters and i'm thinking about making something for the controllers to be held onto to simulate the yoke, this it wouldn't be mandatory to buy a flight stick...

    • @vrsimpilot
      @vrsimpilot  Год назад +1

      That is an interesting concept... yes similar to the gunstock... or the Golf+ hardware that lets you attach the controller to a golf club handle. You would have to experiment with some way to get the virtual controller to 'latch' on to the yoke... meaning to ensure the yoke had the focus and was being controlled by the VR controller. And I am not sure if all aircraft have the ability to be controlled by the VR controller (I think some payware aircraft are like this)... but interesting concept!

    • @vrevolver3701
      @vrevolver3701 Год назад

      @@vrsimpilot Yeah, the gunstock model that i sell uses magnets at the base so it can be used to atach to anything, in this case like i said, a yoke!
      Doesn't seem too hard and i'm also making atachments for other games genres besides junt shooting ones, you can check my YT for the video on that but that's in Portuguese since i'm from Brasil lol

      Sounds like you are trying to set up the bindings while in 2D mode... Try going into VR and setting up the controller bindings while in VR... it's a little more difficult, but it should let you see the controllers and default bindings that way.

    Hi VRSimPilot. I tried going for a flight today and these controls didn’t work. Can you please help? I’m using the Fenix A320

      🤔 Which headset are you using for VR? Oculus? Also, check which control interaction you have specified in your settings... I'm not at my sim right now but I'm pretty sure I don't have mine set to legacy... I can check in the morning. Try with each and see if one works... otherwise, if you have oculus right controller set up exactly as I show in this video, it will work in fenix/fbw/pretty much any aircraft.

      it works, make sure that binding option "VR something - left/right" (forgot the exact name now) is unbing. When you find binding via Trigger or Grip, you will notice there are additional VR left/right assignments. Those need to be cleared out!
