Here is a link the the guards I’m using - Cycra Probend CRM - www.rockymount...
For some reason the topic of using full wrap hand guards or not using them seems to get heated between some riders on the internet. My feeling is that there is a trade off with both methods. Yes, it’s true that full wrap guards can prevent some injuries. Every believer seems to have a story about how “they KNOW their hand would be hamburger without it”. I know that it is also true that those same full wrap guards can cause some injuries. I’ve seen in first hand on my rides, and hear of many, many more injuries caused by these guards.
They also make the bars more rigid and make your front end feel slightly heavier, although not a great deal. One of the most common arguments I hear in favor of full wrap guards is to protect your brake and clutch levers. While this is certainly an advantage, I’ve still broken the tips of my levers off my bikes when using these guards in the same way that I’ve broken the tips of my levers without full wraps. Admittedly, this happens less often with full wraps.
Many viewers have mistakenly believed that I have somethings against these types of guards and don’t like them. Just because I don’t put them on most of my bikes doesn’t mean I hate them or anything. It’s just another thing to put on the test/review bikes and I’m already doing so much with them. I just don’t feel it’s needed on all my bikes. Perhaps if I did a lot of riding in super tight woods, they would be a necessity for my bikes. Riding here in the Rocky Mountains of Utah and Idaho, I think they are certainly optional. I still get bloody knuckles nearly every ride from smacking branches and other stuff whether I use these or not. My knuckles are healing up and bloody as I type this!
