I bought the BassRig a while ago because everyone was raving about it. I thought the sound at home, but in live shows I noticed how happy the FOH mixers were when I came back with the Tech21 bass driver. They always explicitly praise my bass sound with an old '76 Precision Bass and the Tech21 bass driver. That has probably become the standard for a good, manageable bass sound live.
For live shows, I use a SansAmp BDDI v2 to the FOH, always sounds great and super solid. After all the years it’s been available and all the other options that have since sprung up, it’s still a hard to beat sound and has become a trusted industry stalwarts….like an SM58.
I have the original SansAmp DI with no knobs on top. They're actually inside which means that you have to take it apart to change them. And then, you need a mini flathead screwdriver or guitar pick to adjust them. Yeah, I know that sounds like a pain in the ass, but as my bandmate & friend said, once they're dialed in they'll never get accidentally messed up! Most purists hate the sound of the active mode, but I love it. It really sounds like a bass amp! And even those purists admit that the passive mode is adequate. I've got better stuff now, but I've carried to every gig I've had for the last 30+ years because it's never failed me and serves as a great backup to amp failures.
I have one of the originals and had no idea that was a thing! This makes perfect sense now. Need to pull it out and see what I can dial in. Thanks for the info.
I wholeheartedly agree the SV’s DI is voiced too dark to send through speakers. I put the SV before the sansamp (using the amp output) and that works great. Sansamp blend at 12 o’clock 😉. Sounds great through IEM and FOH.
BDDI sounds better. Most likely due to the OE SV cab sim. Don’t know why they don’t allow you to disable it on the xlr out. Would be interested to hear through the 1/4 out and compare.
@@chrisrourkebass the speaker in the video I assume that is what the audio we are hearing is coming out of? Do you use that setup for home practise? does it work ok for you? I'm looking for a simple home practise setup and heading that you can just skip the amp and go directly into a studio monitor or power PA.
@JeepingNet when the bass is playing in this video I added the recorded audio and muted the camera microphone. So you're not actually hearing the monitors in this video. The monitors I use are Behringer Truth B2030A which I've had since about 2010. I don't have an opinion on whether these are good or not but they are fine for me.

I agree. It's an incredibly versatile pedal.

There is a cabsim in the SansAmp too. Since the beginning they have done that.
I just did a gig with my SV and yes it can be very bass heavy- I just cut bass cranked the mids and it was beautiful!
(Amp out into effects return and DI’d)

What are you using for a monitor speaker do you like it?
@@JeepingNet do you mean when I'm playing live or what monitors I have hooked up to the computer?

@JeepingNet in terms of home practice the speaker monitors work great. I can also use headphones if I want to practice silently.
BassRig is nice, but Sansamp has something more to it
Show me more!
Sansamp cheaper and more reliable, the V2 has way more options to shape your tone and it sounds better than this original effects boutique ahit
