These lieder date from a period when Krenek was looking for a language of his own. He was inflenced by Scubert for some time. These lieder date from that period. What is fascinating with Krenek is its sincerity. There is nothing of the posture of the 'trurn to....... ' of Stravinski. His personality is expressed through any composition, beyond the style changes. I do not think that the instruementation brings any added value: the "black and white" of the piano seems me more suited than this orchestration for chamber ensemble.

I tend to agree, although the arrangement isn't bad. However, I could do without the choice of singer.

@@stephenluttmann3432 Of course I agree, the arrangement is not bad ans=d sensitive to colors and feelings. You can find similar situations in Ravel's work, and even Mahler ("lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen", re-used in the first Symphony).
      Anyway, Krenek was great !!!
