I completely agree. This performance underlines what a truly magnificent piece of music this is. It's a shame that some of the audience haven't the respect to withold applause until the conductor lowers his baton. Bunch of ignoramuses!
No entiendo por qué hay personas que siempre proyectan sus problemas y les gustan las compariciones, este video no lo subieron para abrir un debate, entiendo que los subieron para mostrar una versión más de esta bellísima aria, y en mi particular punto de vista esta muy bien interpretada, felicidades para el Mtro Gipali que no tenia el gusto de conocer pero me gustó mucho su versión y la participación del coro le da una toque muy majestuoso y especial
I have been watching various tenors doing this marvelous piece and find the newer generations coming along JUST FINE! This was exquisite. Now, off to watch and listen to Jonas Kaufmann. He's marvelous too.

Have you been exposed to opera to say this? In my opinion this is a great and beautiful aria, but there are no less than 200-300 arias more beautiful, and from every musical era, from baroque to modern.

This was an awesome performance by the choir and orchestra, and Gipali gave it his all. (That's overlooking what was evidently a problem in the quality of the recording, toward the end, unless it's a RUclips issue or the fault of my speakers.) The ladies in the choir must have been chosen for the visual element as well as their impressive vocal ability. No wonder the cameraman chose to focus on them rather than the men. To be sure, there are some handsome gentlemen in the ranks of tenors and basses, but we barely see them. Ordinary guys like me are also represented, judging by the brief glimpses afforded the viewer here. More to my point, the overall effect that Puccini wished to achieve with this piece is not possible without an excellent choir and orchestra, no matter how able the soloist.
The focus on the ladies is logical since it's the coro donne (laides choir) singing in between, later at the climax the camera pans out to reveal the entire choir. Not sure what you mean.
And the choir was filled with a family of singers. Same hair and eyes all next to each other. I’m sure mom and dad are thrilled to have them sing not only the most loved aria but together.
Is there somewhere I can buy this version of Nessun Dorma? Its the best I've heard in 53 years of listening to opera. The sound quality isn't so great and I'd be happy to pay for a better quality recording or a DVD?

I heard George Pretre was a visiting conductor for VPO, then maybe the orchestra and chorus under George's conducting on this video are members of VPO and Chorus?
Lest all the complainers forget…Puccini originally wrote the role of Cala for Beniamino Gigli….hardly a tenor di forza. The tempo here is fine and the tenor is comfortable with it.
