- Here's the Real-Grade 1/144 scale Tallgeese EW. I may not like those tree-trunk legs, but other than that I have to admit this is a fantastic kit! Improvements over the MG, and overall fantastic detail, articulation, and very solid.
Big thanks to USA Gundam Store for supplying this kit! Check out their online shop and use coupon code "zakuaurelius10" to save 10% on your order! www.usagundams...

Thanks for watching!
The EW reference is to the Katoki redesign of the 5 original gundams and Tallegeese to bring their ascetics in line with his redesigns for the Endless Waltz Movie/OVA. These EW versions appear in the Glory of the Losers Manga which is a retelling of the anime.
He also redesigned all the OZ mobile suits(Leo, Aires, Cancer, Virgo, Mercurius, Vayete) as well, though they're only shown in one picture all together if I'm not mistaken.
Am I the only one who wishes The Glory of Losers gets animated?
It'll never happen in a million years, but I wouldn't mind seeing it.
THANK YOU CAPTAIN OBVIOUS!
EW comprises Katoki's redesign of the gundams for the movie, however he happened to design the tallgeese for the original tv version so not much is changed aside from color
the TV version replaces all the gold trim with white and some of the white trim with dark gray, such as the bottom of the side skirts, center of the chest, top of the head below the red flaire, and most of the thruster pods. the yellow cylendars are also bronze/brown in the tv version. im missing some other color details but im not gonna list everything, look it up.
Crotch Thruster? But I just met her!
Maybe the reason why the crotch rocket protrudes is to get the booster farther away from the center of gravity for better stability when flying?
Great review, Zack! I actually learned quite a bit about my own RG Tallgeese by watching this. I didn't realize the booster pods had that switch gimmick. Always assumed you were just supposed to open everything by hand. And now that I know there's enough hollow space in the legs, I'm going to install some Pinewood Derby car weights in mine to make it more stable.
Tallgeese is not only my favorite MS from Gundam Wing, he's my all-time favorite MS amongst all.
My first MG is a Tallgeese (though he still sits in my backlog) and my first RG will be a Tallgeese.
You have good taste. Tallgeese III is actually my *second* favorite MS, right after the Gundam Mk-II. I'm so happy to have a modern 1/144 scale version at long last :D
I actually love the leg proportions of this kit! Although, I usually end up disagreeing on leg proportions.
Billy Villacis I love them as well.
I love this model. Tallgeese was the first Gundam model I ever built back in the early 2000's, so I'm glad it got a modern redesign.
Minor programming note re: 9:00 and then a personal review: the lateral thrusters inside the verniers (the ones attached to the yellow fin) can be moved up and down along the track so the medial and lateral thrusters are at the same height and not so vertically offset.
Ended up ordering this kit (from USAGundamStore since my LGS wasn't clear when they were getting a restock) as my first RG in late Oct./early Nov. of 2020.
Love it to bits; I'm a huge fan of the Tallgeese design elements (the roundshield is a surprisingly rarity in major kits) and it executed on both the core of the Tallgeese and on the premise of Real Grade kits as a whole so well. Cannot recommend it highly enough to any longtime fan of great RG kits, and speaking as someone who got into the hobby just a few months before I built this*, it's not so challenging a kit that it wouldn't be suitable for people who only have a few HGs/MGs under their belt. Posability is incredible, great little armor/joint gimmicks, the omnidirectional mounting for the dober gun and shield works great despite the size, and it's much much more solid than I feared it would be when I saw how many parts it was made up of.
It's also the first kit that I have ever used 99% of the provided stickers for (at least those with position guides in the manuals, not the extras), which felt like it took almost as long to get right as putting the MS together did, but as Zaku noted the white pla really does the stickers a lot of favors and the whole thing comes out looking cleanly marked and uncluttered. The more I added, the more assured I felt that the rest would look great too, and I was not disappointed. 10/10 RG for price and in general.
*I did have a small amount of experience getting wargaming minis off of sprues but mostly I just spent more money/free time on kits than I ever could during a normal year haha
Legs match the original deigns pretty well.
Clyde Harper I agree, in the anime the legs are pretty much exactly like this.
i hate that leg, just like zakuaurelius
That's ok. No accounting for taste.
Yeah. I did some research and the lower legs are accurately recreated. It never bothered me before. The funny part is the boner thruster but overall I like what I see!
Looking at the master grade, the calves have the same original width, but they taper more towards the bottom. It's really subtle, but I get why they didn't do that for the RG. If they legs are too light and thin it won't be able to support the model's weight.
only a fool would believe the dober gun is the main weapon, the real weapon is the speed itself, besides a real man uses beam sabers.
A real man doesn't use beam weapons. BRING OUT THE FLUGEL HEAT LANCE
ONly a fool would believe your nonsense!
LONG LIVE KING ZECHS!
he's the real weapon here lols
the original artwork has cankles, but ever since you pointed it out i can't stop staring at it haha
I JUST finished assembling it, went to see a video, like this one for articulation purposes and I immediately spot that I forgot the knee covers. God damn it.
Edit; Easy fix, no disassembly required. I had no idea that the ankles turned, because the pre-mold part is so tight, that's nice to know. My side skirts don't open anywhere near as much as yours and I noticed that you're missing stickers from inside there, although I suppose that might be on purpose.
I thoroughly enjoyed building this kit and I love how elegant it is. The glossy plastic is beautiful for anyone like me who doesn't paint these.
One thing that broke on mine, was the "C" shaped grabbing part on one of the backpacks. The glossy plastic, while beautiful, is harder and therefore has less give than the other types. I managed to superglue it back and be able to hold the thruster on the opposing side. This will forever be a weak point on my model though.
it's called Tallgeese EW because this is the version from the Glory of Losers manga which is part of Endless Waltz. the Endless Waltz OVA is technically a continuation of the Glory of Losers manga rather than the anime even though the OVA came out first. basically the EW just indicates that it's the Endless Waltz version of the Tallgeese rather than the TV version.
also interestingly enough the legs on the RG match the original TV version artwork rather than the EW version which is why they're shaped differently on this kit.
THANK YOU CAPTAIN OBVIOUS!
@@pwimetime6687 dude just stop
This is the question i wanna ask for the longest time. Is it expensive for bandai to undergate a part from the sprue? Why not just make the whole thing undergated.
Late reply, but a 100% undergated kit has more problems than you'd expect. I have some that are like that, and it's really frustrating trying to clean a gate nub that's right next to a peg. it also creates seam line issues in places where you don't want them.
Won mine in a contest. Gonna paint the inner frame chrome and the armor Molotow Chrome with some clear paints for the yellow and red.
undoubtedly the best part is that the waist joint uses a hinge join instead of a double ball joint unlike the mastergrade!
The EW actually refering to the manga that Katoki Hajime redesign which this kit was based on, Gundam Wing : Glory of the Losers, and the anime version has alot more black colour parts than the EW version.
THANK YOU CAPTAIN OBVIOUS!
Gotta agree with ZakuAurelius on his main con for the RG Sazabi, the shield was very plain and just red on the underside. Given how much detail, and how much color separation, was used in earlier RGs, some grey and black parts would have been nice. This kit, Sazabi, and Nu Gundam are MUST BUY KITS for sure tho!
Totally agree with your feelings about the RG line in general - they're basically snapfit candy to me. I can't see myself ever properly painting one of them, what with all the tiny parts. MG/HG all the way for painted builds.
Would now love to see anyone customize this to the Tallgeese Flugiel.
Also wishing we get the Proto Zero for the RG line, which I bet will be easy already on Bandai's part.....
It's actually not easy, they will have to redesign all the armor parts
Great review.
lifts the crotch armor gets the tallgeese excited. wow
the legs are extremely accurate with the line art
Woah I have been wanting clear beam sabers for so long. That way I can use translucent paint and make my own.
Its not that this kit looks bad, its just that the MG looks SO MUCH better. All the issues with posing aside, it just looks amazing.
I'm glad Bandai showed us a method for fixing the gun handle, I can probably scratch build that on the MG :D
Brendan Dougherty the MG does not look better. The RG looks absolutely gorgeous in person, is more detailed, has better color separation and in my opinion has better proportions. Yeah I like the legs, in fact, I love them significantly more than the MG ones.
The stability on this thing is SO MUCH better though.
I picked this and the MG up so I can custom paint one and leave the other normal.
To this point we all know how good is the RG Tallgeese! But we all have our hopes is the RG Sazabi. Please Bandai don't miss in that one!
i think i got to buy the rg tallgeese cause i like the kit that has all of the accessories are well mount on the kit and this one look good for display
Real Grade vs Master Grade (Both are nice and I prefer MGs.) RG have color separation, are 1/144 in size, gimmciks consistent across all kits, not as easy to mod. MG are 1/110, have a pilot figure, easier to mod, inconsistent among kits due to the line being older, have more non-gundam kits. I think that covers it. They both offer something for the builder that makes them distinct.
Should I get the RG or MG? I like to paint and recreate open cockpit hangar scenes, the MG has the seated Zechs figure but the RG doesn't. But looks like the RG is a better kit?
if that's how you want to display it then I would say go for the MG
I hope that someday they give us the rest of the gundam wing tv series and endless waltz gundams and other main mobile suits in RG form.
I’m torn between this and the rg banshee norn, which one would you recommend more?
I just finished building this. I had problems posing the gun. The arms are really tight for me and hard to rotate. The gun Is loose and falls off constantly. The stickers are also ungodly small. Its also really unbalanced, you can't pose it at all without a stand.
The good: Tons of moving pieces. It honestly feels better than the High Grade kits. LOTS of detail. It looks like a proper Tallgeese even without the stickers. The joints are extremely well engineered. While building the legs I was like what the fuck is this. Then when its complete I was like holy shit thats genius.
I don't know how it compares to the Master Grade kits but its better than the 1:100 HG Wing Zero Custom I have.
of course it's better than the hgs
@zakuaurelius what turntable do you use? Also, extremely ready to get this kit!
my only complaint are the white verniers, that used to be grey/black. Besides that, it's an awesome kit
You forgot the fact that it was not the TV version.
the "ew" title is because the manga is re-released as Gundam Wing, Endless Waltz 'glory to the losers' where they are fixxing the pacing and the mechs are designed more like the endless waltz suits (see death scythe and shen long (looks like nataku don't he?)
When did this actually release?? I pre-ordered it from USA Gundam Store, but that was awhile ago. Haven't heard anything from them after reaching out too. Bout to cancel my order/file a PayPal claim and get this on Amazon instead...
Hey zack... can you give me a link from where you buy your rotating platform from... their website if they have one... thanks
I personally like the new leg proportion better than the MG since it gives off a more firm and steady feel to the legs. The MG proportion always makes the legs look too fragile to me
Hey Zack, is this RG Tallgeese compatible with the RG Wing Zero Custom's wings? It'd be neat if they made a little wink/nudge reference to the Tallgeese Flugel.
You still wouldn't be able to make the Flugel as it has a different read head piece
Waiting on that rg epyon
That front crouch gimmick tho lol
Do you think Bandai could have made the lower legs same as the new HG Leo or did the RG inner frame impede the design Zach?
With thinner legs, it probably couldn't stand on its own due to the weight of the thrusters.
I think it's called EW because it was katoki's design? CMIIW, because i think the original tallgeese have molded big eagle emblem-logo thing on its shield rather than just a sticker
EW=Endless Waltz.
Yeah I mean endless waltz actually katoki own design so it does have different design aspects compared to the original one
Well...Tallgeese IS design by Katoki. Basically it's the one appear in the manga not the TV ver.
Do you personally prefer this rg than the mg tallgeese?
wish usagundamstore would send my pre-order already
phantomsoul Yeah same here.
Seriously
Same here! And they won't respond to my emails either. I filed a complaint with PayPal, and am about to file a claim and cancel my order. Darn shame too, cuz it's my first (and last) time using this store. I hate resorting to Amazon...
Lucian here from the GKaiser AGE, Yeah I feel the same way, I ordered mine on USA Gundam Store and still havent gotten it but I was at Megacon 2018 in Orlando and saw some there at some stands I was about to buy one but I had tons of other stuff I was already buying and figured my preorder should be shipping soon but here I am still waiting...
From their newsletter they only just got them in stock recently, give them some time to send them out
Imagine a premium Bandai real grade tallgeese III flugel….
will you review the RG sazabi since that may be the best RG by far
Just got it yesterday!
it had erection gimmick
H.R. gaming4plebs yes
Are you getting or pre order the rg sazabi
No a fence ;) but you're supposed to pull the little yellow wing back during the transformation, which locks it in and aligns the thruster with the other one.
The only issues I can see is that Tallgeese II and III are gonna be P-bandai :c
Other than that I love everything about it. but I'm bias since its my favorite childhood MS
I was thinking on waiting for incoming P-bandai tallgeese 3, but this one looks so tempting.....
No size comparison tho
Worth buying it?
Legs are fine
hunnid shots fukkem up
Should I get the MG or the RG version of this kit?
personally i still prefer the MG, but the RG is very nice and introduces some nice new details.
ZakuAurelius Thank you!!!
Now the question becomes do I get the master grade or the real grade...
Face Manguy RG no question.
idk why they dont release any talgeese 3 i only see it on third party im still waiting for bandai.. the 3 is more awesome for me rather the 1 & 2 ...
Alvin Benter talgeese 3 was released as a p-Bandai exclusive along with the rest of the movie kits. The 3 is my personal favorite as well
Yo! it's GROOT from Gaurdians of the galaxy.....Dude Tallgeese definitely has tree trunk legs and they soo freaking horrid!
Wish they made a rg tallgeese 3
I don't mind the legs at all of this, but they look odd, especially compared to my MG Tallgeese III
You do know that the EW has different color scheme and different booster placement compared to the TV ver right?
its EW because it was seen in a flashback
Actually it's not, only the Tallgeese III appears in Endless Waltz in any capacity. However there's an "Endless Waltz" manga called Glory of the Losers that retells the TV series using the EW designs (including this Tallgeese).
Yeah these lower legs just look to wide around the ankles
The crotch thruster makes sense for moving backwards and up real quick for dodging. I dont really like the thick ankles myself but I can live with that. I have been looking forward to getting this for a while and I finally get to pick it up Thursday.
and also make review for gundam f91 pls :)
The legs are long cuz its supposed to be tall thats why its called the tallgesse
But I still respect your opinion
I have no problem with the length of the legs...
Neat
Shame about the legs but its still pretty cool
Damn it I was late again 55
It's a Leo on steroids
Bandai likes to sell the water-slide decals separately for like 4 to 6 dollars so why include it. Wish they did not do that. I would pay an extra 2 dollars.
But Bandai did not even release water decals for this kit, which sucks
Oh wait they did, but only included with the "Titanium finish" version
also the Leo head underneath the Tallgeese 'face mask'.
Boy Zaku are you Crying while reviewing this kit? RGs are not supposed to be anime accurate. Thats why they are called REAL????
If you think it's leg proportion is not that great at all, imagine the tallgeese having barbatos legs.
GUNPLAyer 1 What are you talking about?! Barbatos have nice curvy legs, not straight tree trunk.
Umm why would a gunpla builder not know about endless waltz?
He knows about Endless Waltz, but I'd imagine not the manga Glory of the Losers. The Tallgeese 1 was not in the OVA/Movie, but appears in the aforementioned manga (albeit with an extended arsenal than Bandai seems to forget for these Ver.EW Tallgeese).
Guess thats why i dont remenber the yellow trim
Second
First
Ur fast
:p
Stupid stance on the legs
still hate that leg no matter how many time i watch review about this kit in other ch
another sour review, cause your old MGs look like big HGs now.
@GoofyGoufer07 the bitterness in his voice reviewing RG kits especially this one was outrageous. .
Man if you can't digest that RGs are better than your outdated MGs, then dont make a review. You sounded so cringey and awful. Dont abuse yourself zakuaurelius! You despise RGs getting better treatment from bandai! Cut the crap.
@GoofyGoufer07 i guess you need to re watch the video. You dont need to hear the exact words to see the obvious.
@GoofyGoufer07 oh yes a couple and this the worst. Personal preference is acceptable, but intentional downgrading is not. He was trying so hard though, but had a hard time finding one.
