What I grew to admire about the Disney of the past, even into my adulthood, was how well they had made stories that had a good lesson. Yes, Bambi's mother died and that is a heavy topic, but I'd say it taught fantastically about how to move past loss (which is a very real and inevitable thing in life no matter how much we'd love to have it otherwise), with the power of your friends and life going on.
Now, that'd never be accepted and instead they're teaching lessons about, idk, "you can do anything and no one can ever stop you from doing it", to those who have grown to think so. To people who need safespaces with only agreeing opinions to validate them and everything else needs to be... banned I guess etc.

Funny how Johnny Depp's name is still brought up in articles, either asking if he will return or bad mouthing him and his return. But he made it clear that he would never return to Disney, and yet some journalists believe the franchise will work without him. He is living a much better life in France and away from Hollywood and the nonsense here.

I would watch a spin-off of some new character living in that same world Jack Sparrow is in, doesn't matter if it's set in a time when he was a young boy who people have heard of but have not seen, or he was already dead for decades. But reboot doesn't interest me. Can't reboot Depp Sparrow.

Disney is creatively bankrupt. It's becoming clear that most of us would rather watch RUclipsrs like Lauren more than an episode of almost anything put out by Disney now. For the sake of shareholders, DIS needs to stop making movies and invest all of that wasted money into their parks, which is where they make all their money. It's more efficient for them to just wait for the next Marvel or Pixar to come along, buy the IP rights, and then incorporate said IP into the parks mega-behemoth to keep that golden goose growing.

I don't object to a series reboot, but honestly we don't need it. The first 3 films hold up incredibly well visually and are epic in every other way. We don't need a race bent, sex swapped "pirate" film, no way, no how.
To be honest, even if Johny Depp coming back, judging from last Pirate movie, I don't think new one will be any good.
Disney put in all the effort to make the red head animatronic from the ride into a pirate. Anne Bonny would be the perfect historical figure to model her after. To quote the ride before the update: "We want the redhead!"
It would also be nice if Disney got down on its knees and begged Johnny Depp's forgiveness.

During the Amber Turd debacle, he testified on the stand that it would take "$300 million and a million alpacas" from Disney (and I'm guessing an apology) for him to come back as Jack Sparrow - I never expected him to return to the role. He has already moved on.
Based on the fact that it's still Carribean region, the lead actress must be the Little Mermaid - she's so skilled that basically leads a ship with no legs or experience to do so, her tears make people immortal, she sings like a siren and swims like a beaver, more than than, she spreads democracy and feminism across the Carribeans. I'm so excited about this crossover!
"Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl" The first one - The oryginal one is the only One you need to watch and that is it. You may watch it 20 times and more and you will never be bored or disappointed.

Iirc, didn't Depp tell Disney to go eff themselves? The Quartering covered this months ago. Though, based on Disney's track record it's best that Jack Sparrow remain in Davy Jones' locker. That is a far more merciful fate than what they would do to his character in this day and age.
He probably said no or asked for a boatload (no pun intended) of money when they asked him to come back and so that’s probably when they decided to just go the reboot route. If that is in fact true, good for Johnny for sticking up for himself and having self respect.

I should remind people that there is a TV series called Black Sails that includes historical persons along with fictional pirates from Treasure Island. It includes real persons like Charles Vain, Jack Rackam , Blackbeard, and the female pirate Anne Bonny. Of course, she was historically accurate and was played by a white actress. We know that Hollywood will not even try to make their onscreen characters look like their historical sources. We may have to give up hope that they ever will.
Just let Disney make the garbage and keep labelling everyone as bigoted, racist and whatever because we still won't watch it

Unlike Michael Bolton, I haven't seen any of the Pirates of the Carribean films, so I don't really care about this. However, what Disney *should* do is not a reboot, but a *spin-off.* Were they to do this, they would be able to keep all the events and characters of the existing movies in place, and still have their DEI buccaneers. They could have Johnny Depp make cameo appearances in the films as fan service for those who already are fans, and they could situate the story of the spin-off ship in time by shooting events that took place from another angle and either have the new ship arrive too late to do anything, or see it and turn around, saying something like, "Nope, not getting involved in *that*" Moreover, this would still leave open the possibility of future Pirates movies with Depp because they would not have destroyed their previous canon. Thus, if the spin-off movie(s) bomb, they could still easily go back to the successful formula.
Why are they even taking another IP & shoving DEI in it...
They're just gonna destroy another great IP, already killed Star Wars, Marvel & even their own stuff.
