  • Though this song is better known today as "The Rose of Alabammy,'" I chose to keep its original title since I am singing the original 1846 lyrics. This song is on my latest CD "PATCHWORK" which is available at: tomroush.us or at iTunes at: itunes.apple.com/us/album/pat...

That doesn’t inherently mean it’s a Confederate song, just that soldiers from the South enjoyed singing it to raise moral during a time of war. Is Lorena a Union song just because some of their soldiers sang it during the Siege of Vicksburg and afterwards? No, because it’s a southern song, same as this one. It has no particular affiliation with either faction, unlike a song such as Dixie’s Land, which does have an obvious connection to the Confederacy (but is still an excellent song and I love it dearly).

Howdy Tom! I am a big fan of your music, as well as Bobby Horton (who you’re style reminds me of!) I really enjoy these music videos, which you do a great job with! Maybe we can collaborate at some point. Let me know.
