I've been thinking about picking up this game for a long time and your review convinced me to finally buy it. And as luck would have it it was 20% off on Steam!
Hey Teach! I don't need a review because I already love this game (I'd go A also, although, personally, I'd put it a tad above DF). Just thought I'd comment for the algorithm 😊 Hope you're having a great 2024 so far and you and your fam are all happy and healthy. Side note: one of my fave things about this game is hearing people's stories about how they got wiped. Like, "a marauding pack of rampaging vampire bunnies wiped out my whole settlement" lol. Such a great game.

Yeah, you definitely have to turn to RUclips to learn, the game does a terrible job of explaining anything, but it's fascinating and satisfying to learn. Then add mods.
I have a much smaller number of hours logged than some, my spouse has over 1k I have a paltry 230. The new DLC is fabulous, and punishing. The multiplayer mod on the workshop is considerably more stable than before with version 1.5. It’s been a wild dive back in.
I absolutely suck at rim world, most of the time my colony dies quickly. Youd think i wouldn't be having fun but i absolutely love this game it is amazing
ToME is well-worth checking out, although it's not without its flaws. It feels a bit amateurish both when it comes to the presentation, and to some extent the mechanics. Regarding the latter, I'm mainly referring to the vast number of different resources - Hate, Souls, Equilibrium, Insanity, Paradox, and many more. This makes the game feel a bit all over the place, but on the other hand it also allows for rather unique mechanics for the various character classes. Much like most true roguelikes, ToME can be absolutely merciless - so, your low-level fighter happened to stumble upon a creature able to not only turn invisible, but actually able to maintain that invisibility while attacking? Good luck trying to survive that without any means to detect invisibility... However, the randomness adds a sense of uncertainty that I consider the bread and butter of roguelikes, and when you actually manage to defeat an opponent 20+ levels higher than yourself it can be a quite exhilarating experience! Anyway, there's no reason sitting on any fence. The base game is free! If it turns out that you like the base game, I would recommend considering at least some of the DLCs. These will cost you a few bucks, but personally I wouldn't want to be without character classes such as the Demonologist and Doombringer... 😈

It's fucking incredible, you'll be lost for hours before you realise what the fuck has even happened to your time, it's that fun. All the dlcs and the missing community adds massive amounts of content to an already re playable game
Short answer whether you should buy Rimworld (and the DLC): Yes. The Long answer: YEEEEEESSSSSSS Rimworld has a fantastic community and is hilarious. You will spend hours in this game, thousands.
This game is a lot like Skyrim in regards to mods, there are 1000s of them , some of which are significantly better then the stock game and all DLC's combined. But this also has the same drawbacks, as soon as the game updates, it will brake all your mods and as a result your save as well.

i bought this game recently before this vid came out. it’s been kinda rough for me. ive only played songs of syx but your tutorials are a godsend.

Literally 1k hours in rimworld haven't won a single game the best part is losing your colony

I give RimWorld an A+ and I actually like it a lot more than Dwarf Fortress. The only other game I would give an A+ would be Battle Brothers.
