According to Ian Anderson: "When I wrote it, I wasn’t deliberately setting out to write a piece of music on a particular subject. But it evolved during the writing process into being not terribly specific, but about the issues of overcrowding - the rather claustrophobic feel of a lot of people in a limited space. And the idea of the incessant unstoppable locomotive being metaphor for seemingly the unstoppable population expansion on planet Earth."
1973/1974 .Boston Garden. I stole $8.00 from my mom’s purse to see Jethro Tull perform ‘Passion Play’. It was my first concert. It is still the most memorable performance I’ve ever seen after all these years and many concerts later. When my mom confronted me about the missing $8.00. I spilled the beans and told her about the most incredible event of my life. She said “ It sounds to me that $8.00 was well spent”.
Hahaha! It was my first concert too in Boston Garden when I fist came to Boston for college from Vietnam. It is still the best concert I have ever seen.
My second time seeing Tull and it really kicked butt... remember before they even came on stage the "Blip", "Blip", "Blip" which eventually turned into the beat of the first song; a video where the ballet dancer comes to life and flies out the window! Awesome.
This voice - this beautiful, magical voice - was so much a part of all of my growing-up years... Still growing up;-) Still loving Ian Anderson’s voice. Broken-hearted, though, that he’s all but lost it. Thank God for recordings!
No video on any channel is safe from RUclips's ad-placing algorithm, anymore. Their contempt for content creators is plain as day now. The filthy greedy bastards would put an ad on their mothers corpse if they thought it would generate another five cents. 😡
Im 52 now, started listening to jethro when i was 14 years old, but this song...loving it more than ever!!
