In season 2 Maeve writes how she wants to live in a house with big windows so that she can observe the word safely. Her last shot is her by a large window. I find that poetic.
I absolutly love this ending! It's so real and beautiful in it's own way. Maeve and Otis might not have the classic "happily ever after" but it's still a happy ending. They both come out better people and had valuable experiences together. A relationship ending doesn't have to mean it was a bad one and this ending is a wonderful representation of that
I can't believe we spent 4 seasons watching this show to see Otis and Maeve's relationship work and now we get this ending, this is exactly what writers did to Game of Thrones
What the hell is going on with this stupid trend for the main character to end up alone? Like, you find a decent loving person who absolutely adores you and you let this person go? And for what? To study? Study in Europe for fucking sake!
Yes, really. I'm 40 and find this shocking as if people don't try these days fight for the real love (not summer affection) which is deep.. then.. i feel sorry for young generation already. Decision of split in one night? Congratulatons
They really thought that this was the ending to go with? This whole show has been about getting Otis and Maeve together yet they chose to keep them apart? What’s the point 4 seasons of just nothing it feels like now
While I agree that the ending is shit and no one had any closure, other than adam. But I'm glad maeve left. She's only 17 and giving up a chance like this for a boy is dumb
@@archiepooley1287her going to the US to become a "writer" was just lazy writing (no pun intended), it was an easy way to separate them and end their story. As if Maeve couldnt find a college/university in England that offered her what she wanted
show was about fixing family problems and lgbt harassment and struggles too but i agree with you, ending was quite shitty. THEY SHOULD BE TOGETHER TO THE GRAVE
@@archiepooley1287 for the story In this season that they told then yeah that makes sense but it’s not what they’ve been obviously pointing to which was Otis and her ending up together just a very poor ending to one of my favorite shows and characters
@@janbutscher9646 obvs it was about way more but the main arc was about her and Otis being in love with each other and to have an ending of them not ending up together is just so poor imo
This ending is shit, the writers have been screwing up Otis and Maeve's relationship since season 2 so that they never fix anything, an unmemorable ending for a series that could have been better
I binged watched it for a better ending but sadly I am as disappointed as anyone else. The only silver lining in this dark cloud is that Maeve said I Love You and they made love before separating on amicable terms. Really the writers must be high on something. If given a choice as a writer, I would have made Jean send Otis to America for higher studies where he could be together with Maeve again but sadly these writers are sadists.
Yeah. I dont find this ending justified enough. It is forced. Cant find myself to chose that wrong (and i am 40 with much expirience). If they tried for over a year (like in korean 25 21 ), there were some real obstacles i can get it. But one night decision? Nope. I was healing few years from my first real love. With such short closure, in real live they will start talking again soon.
That could still happen as the ending was very open. You don't see where everyone ended up after graduation and there are many questions left unanswered, so there is always room for a spinoff and/or movie. From what I understood, the writers were open to that possibility.
I finished today the season 4 and I loved this série honestly But this ending made me depressed I feel that it’s not what it should Have been It’s too sad If I knew I would have stopped to not see that terrible end I feel really bad rn bc of this end I hope I’m not alone in that case
I will miss this show. It wasn't easy for me at the beginning to relate to the show. We started watching it me and my wife during the early days of the pandemic. It was obviously a very troubling time and the show was just a breath of fresh air in the middle of the chaos of the world. I'm in my mid 30s, far from the target group of the audience, yet I could relate to what the show was talking about because the themes were universal. I grew attached to the show as the years went by and found myself waiting for it always. The writing was sublime, subtle, and beautiful, the characters were very well written and very well polished. This ending is perfect though heart-breaking as I was really rooting for them to remain together, but it makes perfect sense, as Dickens used to say "life is made up of many partings welded together", we meet many in our lives who may depart, though we carry the special ones in our hearts. A wonderful show.
This was a beautiful ending and it makes perfect sense! It's realistic. Maeve was always meant to chase her dreams, and Otis always wanted her to be happy. In the end, he realizes that she's truly happy in the US, and he's happy for her. Like someone else has commented, life's about the journey, not the destination :) Remember kids, we're all ending up in the same place at the end of our lives, what matters is we make the most of it! Create good memories, good bonds that make us grow as people. THAT'S what this ending is teaching us! That's how we mature as people. If you've ever been in a happy relationship that unfortunately had to end, you'll understand that.
same the way Jean and Otis talked the way that was filmed the knock on the door etc.. really make me think she comeback or send him a text or anything for them to try to be toghter even if it's hard but no.. that's a big big mistake for this ending specially whe the reason why that end in season 4 was most of the main cast wanted to move on they could have done way better
For everyone who wanted these two to be together pay attention to the shirt Maeve is wearing. Of all the clothes Maeve could have taken with her I wondered why it was that particular shirt. In Season One Episode 3 that's the shirt Otis wears when the clinic officially kicks off and they have their first clients at school. She then wears something from her own wardrobe over Otis' shirt to keep her warm. A part of her own identity with his. When she says I will carry a part of you with me wherever I go, obviously it's Otis' shirt, but it's a symbol for all the experiences they went through. The clinic, school, all of it.
I think this is over hated. This ending was realistic. The people criticising it just wanted a soppy show about Otis and Maeve. This show is more than their relationship, it has huge and profound messages about mental health, the hardships of those in the LGBTQ+ community and healing broken families. I genuinely thought the writing was excellent and the execution was quite good. My only criticism is I felt they developed Adam, Michael and O's characters too late in the season and that they could have done more with their storylines.
Sometimes we don’t end up with the person we want. Sometimes they come into our life to show us something about ourselves and how beautiful life could be but also how heartbreaking it is. I’ll never forget the mark the person I wanted left on me it was short and sweet but something I believe we both needed I knew it would be short but I opened my heart to the feelings taking them all in anyways she did too it helped us both grow as people it’s kinda funny how life works everything is finite and never truly only ours. That’s why I love this ending, this kind of shit happens way to often it’s relatable
A sad , heartbreaking break up ending to Otis and Maeve😢🥺 because of Maeve choosing to pursue her career till she wants. What I would also like to think is they didn’t breakup because they have fallen out of love and rather because Maeve has a career in America, I still think eventually down the line , once circumstances become aligned , Otis and Maeve will meet each other once again and will get engaged and marry and live with each other forever! They are destined and deserving of a happily ever after ❤️🥺💯
@@areeieen7576agreed. It was so forced to mkle bigger drama.while i could relate to story in korean drama 25 21, here... no. Completely unjustified poor ending. Rest of season ok.
I think it's really a great ending. I wanted Otis and Maeve to end up together, but this is such a real way to end this story. They will forever remember themselves like their first adult big love, and they changed each other forever. Remember they're teenagers, so it's normal to lose someone. Season 4 has some weak storylines (all the Eric stuff is good, but seeing Jesus? and then the abused sister seems thrown there a little bit) but I think it's a satysfying ending
A script needs to be commissioned where 10 years have gone since the season finale and Maive finds herself back in England as part of a book tour (and to visit her half sister). The tricky bit is, who decides to look for who first? Otis could be a therapist and Maive decides to book an appointment? Or Otis reads she's back and decides to see her at a book signing. Endless possibilities.
Love this show with all my heart will agree that the new characters this season where way to much and had to much screen time. The ending was possible the most heart wrenching thing ever its not what I wanted bit I think it could have been far worse just glad that it was ended on a high note other than them completely hating each other
Also they love each other so much and they're acting as if they couldn't see each other ever again like bro he definitely if the show continued would have texted her
At first I thought the ending felt anti-climactic but, upon reflection, it's actually perfect. This show was about mainly teenagers learning and experimenting with sex in a happy and wholesome way, it's their 'Sex Education', their gateway into the next part of their lives. Otis and Maeve opened up a key in each other's soul, allowing them to each complete their Sex Education and move onto their next chapters. Fundamentally, how many of your teenage dreams end up being your partner? Not many, this is the most realistically wholesome ending they could give us.
Yes but I know some cases that they have reconnected years later and even got married. So I wouldn’t be surprised if the same goes for Otis and Maeve in the future
This was a great ending, real and pure. Makes sense many ppl don't like as much cus ppl tend to run away from the reality. The reality is otis wouldn't have been happy if he had ended up with ruby and getting ur true love, maeve, comes with lots of obstacles so he was bound
I wish this season is about otis prepared to joined maeve in America because he's a smart kid too. Or at least Otis considering to go to the same university with maeve next year. This ending is just too sad and pointless.
The show was always about human connection and the reality of its messiness, but seeing it with hope and love. This is how most relationships you had in school will turn out. But that doesn’t invalidate these experiences or connections. I thought this was perfect and encapsulated my school experience well (except for all the crazy stuff ofc).
I believe one's mindset depends on the things they get influenced or watch, this show taught us many wonderful things but its also a drawback as they potray how hard it is to find the perfect someone in your life. Which basically makes a person lose hope, just that too many interconnected relationship can get messed up. I mean a glimpse how atleast they are happy will make up for it
Omg.....This serial opened my hearth and became my most favourite serial. It is very sad, bcs I want them in their relationship, but all episodes are masterpiece. I expected different ending, but this ending is more emotionally and also beautiful.❤️😭
Although maeve and otis didnt end up together, i still love this ending. All throughout the season we experience maeve and otis love story but its not there happy ending. the true ending was the journey of maeve with the help of otis, heal herself of her childhood trauma , to be whole again. And I believe her journey through healing was better than there love story ❤
Heres me hoping for a season 5 in a couple years time following all the characters as they live their adult lives. Maybe then we'll finally see these two get their full happy ending once they both got what they wanted 😢😢
There is a lot of wisdom & matures about your paragraph.I was thinking about my ex, my old dogs, new dogs that past away. I will always love them, they will always be in my heart. They came into our life to give us life lesson, when that is complete they have to leave.
This ending left an open ending notice how Otis is looking outside thinking about something I think the writers want you to decide what he’s thinking about is he thinking of going to America with her or is he thinking that meave was just his teenage love and not his true one but will always remember her or 3 remember his quote in season 1 about love isn’t about grand gestures or the moon and the stars? Who knows what was in his mind
heir love is eternal senseless ending she in America makes no sense you see Maeve suffering at the window in the last scene with her t-shirt from the first days of the clinic season 1.. they are made for each other dividing them makes no sense.. .the ending must be seen again with a film or a spin off
The ending was beautiful. They couldn’t have chosen a better song. Not everyone gets a happy Hollywood ending. It was a realistic ending for Otis and Maeve.
In my opinion the creator couldn’t decide to end the show with Otis in a relationship with Meave or Ruby. Because after season 3 there are people who prefer Ruby rather than Meave. So with this ending we could say that “everybody is happy”
What Otis and Maeve love story showed us is that you should always say to someone your feelings about them before it’s too late. Both of them could have been together from the start and enjoying at least 1 year of relationship before Maeve ultimately leaving to the USA. However when they ended up together was already too late. Both of them were walking in different paths that’s why their relationship ended so quickly. We must enjoy the moment because life gets unpredictable and sometimes it leads us to different paths from the people we love.
I think there was a way for them to end the show realistically and give pay off to the fans. All we needed was either a flash forward or him texting her again. I find it hard to believe that down the line they wouldn't figure it out, so many ridiculous things kept them apart and they managed to get through it. I don't see why for a second they couldn't here especially when Otis 100% could of went to America to visit as well as maeve saying she'd come back to visit aimee. A realistic ending isnt necessarily a good ending. And it feels like this ending sort of ruins the rewatchability at least with the motis stuff. This was my favourite show and the end just seemed disappointing and that sucks to say. This show would benefit from a movie or a reunion episode sometime down the road between otis and maeve, not everyone gets happy endings but some people do.
I think that they entended to keep at as an open ending for a possible movie. I am team ruby here. I loved her more than maeve. Like a hundred times over. Their scene at the dance, i hope what she meant by saying that "she had enough friends" is that she wants something more than what otis asked for.
I know a lot of people won't like this ending, but the rawness and how realistic it is? I don't know, in a way it's beautiful. I think a lot of people forget how old they are, the reason it is realistic is just that, their life is only just beginning. Timing is everything my fellow fans, who knows where they will be down the line? After all, the rest of the story is up to interpretation :)
The ending was so bad, so so so bad. The writers did an absolute disservice to the fans and characters. I hope they come back maybe in 5 years or so and make it right. Give some of the actors a chance to realise this was as good as it was going to get for them and they should have fought harder for the show to continue.
Okay so it may not be the ending that we were expecting, but I think this is still a very beautiful ending because it focuses on closing off Otis and Maeve’s journey - which began the show to begin with. This really was the most appropriate ending for them.
I just watched the first episode of season 4 and they’re not even together so I didn’t have to watch till the end.. I rooting for them since season 1 and this is what I got.. I’m sad but still love this show
Fed up of people excusing this ending by saying “oh but it’s realistic!” From day 1 this series has been a cycle of completely unrealistic contrivances that kept them apart, but now suddenly you want it to be realistic? What exactly is realistic about it? In reality people do have a happy ending sometimes, and the whole plot of Maeve going to the US was complete nonsense to begin with. We watch these shows as an escape from the real world, was it really too much to ask to give these characters we’ve been invested in since 2019 a happy ending? Go rewatch S1 & 2 & tell me you think this was the right ending, it’s basically a copy and paste of the S3 ending, it’s just lazy writing. IMO S4 doesn’t exist.
Finally someone understands my pain!! You've mentioned an excellent point the whole Maeve going to America was so damn wasteful this season really felt like they are trying to milk this as much as they want...
Maive ain’t got nothing in milburne , her moms dead , her dad is no where to be found , her brother sadly is a junkie like there mom , Otis has freinds , he has a mom who loves him he has stability , he will be okay and so will she but she genuinely has nothing to keep her in moordale her only shot at is reaching for the stars
Ending as a whole was decent and one of the few good things I liked about Season 4. Why they didn't graduate and go off to University in the final season though I really have no idea.
@@JungianHeights yeah love is not like this, it's the only thing that transcends and I feel they both really loved each other. Creators are fkin sadists for this show
This comment probably late, but whats pissing me off is really that being away really isnt a excuse. Otis isnt poor (something that bothered eric a bit, said by him on a discussão from the last episodes) and maeve for some reason dedided she would stay in the USA forever being a writter (job that can be 90% done from home besides showing up in meetings and stuff to make the work known). In another words, sure it always hard to be away from tbe person you love, but they had all they need to still be together. From the rest, just agree it whats being said, lots of new characters and adam story being just rushed.
I really wish Otis knew about Maeve coming to his house at the end of season 1, also Maeve knowing the real reason why Otis blurted out all the stuff she likes to Jackson because he was actually sticking up for her, and I wish Maeve knew about Ruby telling Otis she loved him but couldn't say it back because he was always in love with her instead.
Maeve's first dialogue in the series was when they first bump to each other in season 1 she says "are you complete moron" but in season 4 her last words were Meeting you cracked my heart open now it's forever changed ❤️🥰❤️
REALISTIC ENDING ??? FU*K THAT this A TV SHOW GUYS the really world already hard enough man btw bye sex education 2019-2023 i enjoy my time watching you but that ending mehhhh no RUBY no Maeve yeah great writing!!!!
The end in my opinion is so beautiful! I think that was the right way to end , even know I would love to see them together forever , but I think this was the best decision.
I agree. Personally even though I loved Sex Education I thought that 4 seasons was the perfect amount of time for a show like this. It was better to end the show now than have it last more seasons but not be able to have some of the characters because there actors wanted to move on from the show.
Love is a scam created by Hollywood, Monty Python once said Always look on the bright side of life, there is no bright side of life, it's all darkness and decay, unless we embrace the darkness, we'll all end up trapped in a never ending sea of lies, FUCK LOVE, AND EVERYTHING RELATED TO IT, LOVE ISN'T REAL. IT NEVER WAS!!!
I dont care if its not a "realistic ending", im so gutted Otis and Maeve didnt end up together...ive been so invested in them for years and it just feels like it was all for nothin...They didnt even leave it open ended for a chance of them getting together.
I JUST DONT GET IT ! I get what they were going for here but its just unsatisfying a show so good needed a better ending why would you tore up a relationship that you spent 4 seasons to build up this just seemed wasteful. All that said the show is one my favorites i was so hoping to see a years later seen where they ended up together would have felt more of a closure
There's something more romantic and real about ending the series finale on this. I went into Season 4 knowing that this would be the last season and that this beautiful journey we've taken as viewers would be over. We're left missing them as well.

That "thanks for everything" imo was essentially thanks for coming into my life and making me a better person but now Im moving on, bye forever
At no point have they said that they would never be in contact again
Yeah I think. Makers will go on a break come back in idk 2 3 4 years. They can start this show again otis is in his 20s maeve in her 20s
@@beastop7515what for tho? It's not a fucking soap opera
I can't believe we spent 4 seasons watching this show to see Otis and Maeve's relationship work and now we get this ending, this is exactly what writers did to Game of Thrones
Absolutely
I was so surprised to find out people didn’t like this ending! I loved it, bittersweet done perfectly
Brutal ending to a good show.
Season 4 is touching but disappointing as well , didn't even reach upto the expectations truely disappointed.
Oh boohoo go cry about it
What the hell is going on with this stupid trend for the main character to end up alone? Like, you find a decent loving person who absolutely adores you and you let this person go? And for what? To study? Study in Europe for fucking sake!
America actually 🤓🤓
Uhmmm actually it was America 🤓☝️
@@prankmaster0he/she means that she could study in Europe
I just happy thay my boy Adams has a happy ending
This ending is shit, the writers have been screwing up Otis and Maeve's relationship since season 2 so that they never fix anything, an unmemorable ending for a series that could have been better
The ending is great, they can't do anything if ur r€tarded
I binged watched it for a better ending but sadly I am as disappointed as anyone else. The only silver lining in this dark cloud is that Maeve said I Love You and they made love before separating on amicable terms. Really the writers must be high on something. If given a choice as a writer, I would have made Jean send Otis to America for higher studies where he could be together with Maeve again but sadly these writers are sadists.
100 true
True
Lmaoo you know what you have a point. Nevertheless like any story I think they executed their message perfectly and ended quite nicely yet sad 😭😭😭😭
I finished today the season 4 and I loved this série honestly
But this ending made me depressed I feel that it’s not what it should Have been It’s too sad
If I knew I would have stopped to not see that terrible end
I feel really bad rn bc of this end I hope I’m not alone in that case
It's a crap ending
Like someone else has commented, life's about the journey, not the destination :)
Remember kids, we're all ending up in the same place at the end of our lives, what matters is we make the most of it! Create good memories, good bonds that make us grow as people. THAT'S what this ending is teaching us! That's how we mature as people.
If you've ever been in a happy relationship that unfortunately had to end, you'll understand that.
Was lowkey hoping Maeve was waiting in his room for him
That would’ve been so good man
same the way Jean and Otis talked the way that was filmed the knock on the door etc.. really make me think she comeback or send him a text or anything for them to try to be toghter even if it's hard but no.. that's a big big mistake for this ending specially whe the reason why that end in season 4 was most of the main cast wanted to move on they could have done way better
Ye I thought the knock on the door was gonna be her
For everyone who wanted these two to be together pay attention to the shirt Maeve is wearing.
Damn. I feel like I´ve lost my relationship 😂. This scene really hit me. It was a great show 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
I think this is over hated.
It's not meant to be realistic tho
@@captainbeastwinger4940 The show is trying to convey real messages about the real world, so I think they are trying to make it realistic imo
Agreed!!
Most people don't watch series for realism.
Exactly right. Like it so much better that Maeve went back to America
Well said 👏
I really feel the "Dickhead" actually comes from the writers as last word when you thought they'll stay together.
They are destined and deserving of a happily ever after ❤️🥺💯
I feel devastated 😢
This ending really got me right in the heart ♥
What ending is that?? F FOR THE WRITER F FOR FHE PRODUCER F FOR EVERYONE THAT INVOLVED FOR THAT ENDING THAT MAKE US WAIT SINCE 2019
The writer is really good but this time she fucked up
f them
@@areeieen7576agreed. It was so forced to mkle bigger drama.while i could relate to story in korean drama 25 21, here... no. Completely unjustified poor ending. Rest of season ok.
Hard to accept this ending after all these seasons. I hope they still can be toghether after Maeve returns from US.
Im fucking devastated
Their last scene together was very good
I think it's really a great ending.
This ending is just too sad and pointless.
thanks for saving my time 😇
Sad the show ended, I’ve loved it from start to finish. I wish that Otis and Maeve got their happy ending though and stayed together.
The show was always about human connection and the reality of its messiness, but seeing it with hope and love.
This is how most relationships you had in school will turn out. But that doesn’t invalidate these experiences or connections. I thought this was perfect and encapsulated my school experience well (except for all the crazy stuff ofc).
Motis story is more like Thor and Jane's where they met again only to be separated for good.
😮😢
I believe one's mindset depends on the things they get influenced or watch, this show taught us many wonderful things but its also a drawback as they potray how hard it is to find the perfect someone in your life. Which basically makes a person lose hope, just that too many interconnected relationship can get messed up. I mean a glimpse how atleast they are happy will make up for it
Omg.....This serial opened my hearth and became my most favourite serial. It is very sad, bcs I want them in their relationship, but all episodes are masterpiece. I expected different ending, but this ending is more emotionally and also beautiful.❤️😭
I'm glad to watched spoilers,it save my time.
All those love and intimacy they built up in the previous seasons, are for nothing 😔
No it's not, did you watch the show at all. Both of them grew as themselves and overcame their past problems
I loved the ending
They closed this too fast. Not realistic after strong affection. In longer perspectivd i'm sure they will talk again and reopen
@@munkayttaja6913agreed. They closed this like summer love.. it was deeper
Do do you remember how we cried over a voicemail? What a time
Although maeve and otis didnt end up together, i still love this ending. All throughout the season we experience maeve and otis love story but its not there happy ending. the true ending was the journey of maeve with the help of otis, heal herself of her childhood trauma , to be whole again. And I believe her journey through healing was better than there love story ❤
😢 There was such maturity and wisdom in the way of breaking the relationship that opened my heart and mind
Marvelous series i ever watched... Expecting more like these.. ❤❤❤
This Will always be my fav Netflix original ♥️
Heres me hoping for a season 5 in a couple years time following all the characters as they live their adult lives. Maybe then we'll finally see these two get their full happy ending once they both got what they wanted 😢😢
There is a lot of wisdom & matures about your paragraph.I was thinking about my ex, my old dogs, new dogs that past away. I will always love them, they will always be in my heart. They came into our life to give us life lesson, when that is complete they have to leave.
All that build up for nothing
Do you know the song name?
@@christyku6119 The song is called Let It Be. The version played during the ending and closing credits was by Aretha Franklin.
@@cocolove3697 Thank you so much. This song really hit me in the heart when it start playing and i wanted to listen so badly.
In my opinion the creator couldn’t decide to end the show with Otis in a relationship with Meave or Ruby.
Because after season 3 there are people who prefer Ruby rather than Meave.
So with this ending we could say that “everybody is happy”
That ending rings so true for many people.
I'm in love with them seriously but it was heart' touching and crying to me
Woman uses kind hearted man to heal them, then fobs them off. They got real life down to a key 😂
THIS!! How ppl can say he and maeve were good for eachother is beyond me 😂 literally only wanted him when she had no one else to fall back on
I think there was a way for them to end the show realistically and give pay off to the fans.
They teased us when they sleep together. After that they barely had scene together. They keep on hurting ruby.
This really was the most appropriate ending for them.
exactly
I just watched the first episode of season 4 and they’re not even together so I didn’t have to watch till the end.. I rooting for them since season 1 and this is what I got.. I’m sad but still love this show
I was on episode 3 but things were moving slow and shit. So I stopped and watched the shitty ending 😂
Hahaha same and got disappointed
watching the sky ending are the worst
The letter hits very deep.
Even thought it is finished i m going to watch it again
4 year of waiting but then woke up to reality😢
Im absolutely devastated after the ending and want to cry and die
Ending as a whole was decent and one of the few good things I liked about Season 4. Why they didn't graduate and go off to University in the final season though I really have no idea.
I wish they had stayed together at the end. Maeve and Otis were the OG couple.
I’m actually really sad about this ending. The whole show was about these two, and after the back and forth, they never ended up together properly.
Why didn't Otis just go to school in the USA his dad is from usa
Can’t lie I think Sex Education nailed it and in years to come ppl will release it.
FU*K THAT this A TV SHOW GUYS
the really world already hard enough man
btw bye sex education 2019-2023 i enjoy my time watching you
but that ending mehhhh no RUBY no Maeve yeah great writing!!!!
Still Otis and Maeve are not together Sad for us 😭
The end in my opinion is so beautiful!
My fav show finnaly ended Gudbye every SE characters❤🤧
The ending was logical and good.
I loved this show it was awesome
The ending hurt, but in real life love doesn’t work.
This was a great show, the ending didnt really satisfy me but its still great
