I have thought for a couple years that Ukraine should be given some EMB 314 Super Toucans, which are a Brazilian made propeller driven attack aircraft designed for supporting ground troops in close air support, but to use them to go after drones. This just reinforces that belief.

I don’t know if Brazil would be in a position to give it rn tho. They have an aerobatics team composed of them so it should also be maneuverable enough

@@suspiciousstew1169 America had a bunch of them that they were planning on giving Afghanistan before the Taliban took over. I don't know if those are in Afghanistan or out in New Mexico in storage, but I am betting at least some of them are still on US controlled air bases or storage facilities somewhere.

Ukraine could also use the Super Toucans the same way they use their helicopters, flying at high speed, low to the ground, firing rockets and missiles at enemy positions, then banking hard and getting out of there to avoid AA fire. Super Toucans could perform this role, and their speed might be a greater advantage.

Super Tucanos are too fast. General aviation aircraft are better suited to the role like the domestically produced Aeroprakt A-32.

Awesome, makes you think about getting a few Tucanos or Texan II's. Or you could get a few ultralights. For instance the Blackshape Prime (which has hardpoints) and use that :-) I would almost go as far as saying isn't there some old wwII plane that flies in airshows and re-equip it (that is going too far I know)

3:41 Do you guys do any research? I see Yak-52's on sale for €65.000-70.000. That's 100-150 times the price of these drones they're shooting down.

  • @trs4u

Is drone-slow flight necessary because there's still no effective anti-drone weapon other than a guy shooting at it from nearby? We need a weapons research funding scheme that hands out shed-scale amounts. Who wouldn't 'fancy a shot at that'?

When Ukraine uses almost 50 year old training aircraft: resourceful, creative, determined
When Russia uses any hardware older than 15 years: desperate, failing army that lacks _any_ modern equipment

The Yak, a literal game changer, just like all the other game changers, this changes the game, it's now a game of "who can hit it first" for Russian AA teams

Funny how they’re not hitting it, but a lot of russian jets have been hit.

These are being used behind the lines to take down pre targeted drones aimed at ukraines cities. The aa guns are well out of range... sadly russia is using ww2 German tactics to try and target civilians so these steps are necessary... but also proving to be effective. Russia is a joke nation buying munitions from n Korea and Iran as nobody else will deal with them, all they have is volume, the tech is garbage.

It's hardly something that's been actively fighting on the front in the same numbers as Russian jets, weren't the F16s meant to be their new aircraft not 50 year old YAKs 🤣

The drones russia are using at these ranges are shaheds etc... they go to preset gps coordinates so no... no they can't. And I doubt an fps would be able to catch it anyway... so still no.

I would suggest they employ gyrocopters as well for this.
