Billy’s GREAT…. But the fact that he found 3 guys (now 4) who love the way he plays and seems to be selfless members of a group is phenomenal. Each is extremely talented on their own, (the bass player is so damn good), but together they really do make up the absolute best musical group I’ve ever heard.
Actually, BMFF (the banjo player) sought him out... He saw him at a gig down in Nashville and thought he wanted to play with that guy as they had similar musical tastes... A mutual friend put in the word to BMFS (the guitar player) and the rest is history....
I agree but I will also say. It is insane how many extremely talented musicians out there that don't even have a band. Sometimes at festivals I see people playing around campsites that are way better than the people on stage.

@OurVinyl you have done so much for promoting modern bluegrass and country artists. REAL country and bluegrass artists (like Tyler Childers, Billy Strings, Dead South) and that has given me so much hope for the future of music in general. Keep that bar high for the talent you present, because it's working!
There are some peope who open doors in their mind for others. Billy Strings is one of those people. Wish you all the well and hope you can keep everything together.
"This song is about missing someone who is standing right in front of you. If you’ve ever had a friend who is addicted to hard drugs you might know what I’m talking about." Billy Strings Foil is often used to smoke heroin with, as you can vaporize it off the foil. It's not only just as addictive as shooting it, but it also will cause brain damage and severe lung issues due to the smoke coming off of the foil. I've seen some horrific shit in my day, but a family addicted to smoking heroin off a piece of tin foil, without a lick of furniture in their house, babies crawling around in filth, just about tops them all. Billy has seen some dark shit, despite his young age. I think that is why he is able to break through genres with his songs. They come from a real place in his heart.
Nah, Billy writes his own songs. If not he gives credit, example Jarrod Walker wrote "Everything's the Same." He explains how he lost a couple good friends to hard drugs. Also, that one of his Dad's friends (whom he knew his whole life) from the Michigan bluegrass scene got hooked on drugs and went to prison.
Billy writes his music, his home town was a mess and he was joining the flow when his friend overdosed. Enough to Leave is a brutally honest song about a friend overdosing and dying "enough to kill ya, enough to put you down". I lost another good friend Sunday to heroin, it's a helpless thing watching it happen, nothing you can do.
I've never smoked heroin (I've done it almost every other way), but, at least in NE Ohio, people generally only use foil to smoke meth. Been a while, thank God!

Through the turmoil and the tinfoil
I could wait my early life
I can see you in the darkness
And I'm running through the night
I recall a silver morning
When your face had turned to gray
You were standing right before me
But I missed you every day
Though you never said you're sorry
I forgave you even then
But I feel inconsequential
In the current state I'm in
But I'll try to keep on living
Through the nauseating gloom
And I'll try to keep on digging
Wretched past I will entomb
Though you never said you're sorry
I forgave you even then
But I feel inconsequential
In the current state I'm in
Through the turmoil and the tinfoil
Just the way it used to be
But I have the strength and I will learn
How to fly on broken wings
Though you never said you're sorry
I forgave you even then
But I feel inconsequential
In the current state I'm in
Thank you.
