The second thing you'll notice is because the average Nigerian doesn't know their history, you'll find that majority of them have nothing but admiration for the European. SMDH. I owe my awakening to three institutions. Firstly, Jamaicans who with the revolutionary reggae music mainly of the 70s with back to Africa themes made me realise that there is a connection. Then there was Marcus Garvey and his Pan African teachings and efforts. Secondly, African Americans with their multitude of fighters for civil rights. Thirdly the internet which has helped me to connect the dots about the history of people of African descent. All that I know today ..... wasn't taught to me in school.

In actuality, as someone else pointed out, British Jamaica had indentured servants from British India and it's likely a Nepali is Javon's ancestor. Amerindians have absolutely no connection with Nepal or South Asia, which are nowhere near East Siberia and Manchuria and is actually shielded away from them via many layers of natural barriers including the Himalayas, forests and deserts. This would be the first time in history an Indigenous American would be found to be the same genetic marker as a Nepali. They are not the people who crossed the Bering Strait to get to the Americas.

@@tjavon19 the biggest surprise was the Kenyan link as most of the slaves going into Jamaica came from West Afrika. But after the British abolished the transatlantic slave trade it is possible that some Kenyans were amongst Afrikans rescued by the British from slave ships of other nations and brought to Jamaica to work as indentured workers during the mid 19th century after slavery had ended in Jamaica.
If not then it gets really interesting to me because I have done research suggesting a link between Nigeria and Kenya that stretches back maybe as much as 9000 years, a prelude to the so-called Bantu Expansion.

Ancestry does the dry spit test and it is much harder to fill up the vial to the line. Also that large database is mostly american. My Heritage is much more international and its database has DNA of peoples from all around the world. They didn't get rid of all of them otherwise I wouldn't be here. My Grandmother was mixed Indigenous Jamaican Indians same as with other Jamaicans, many of them were mixed with thr Africans and many of them with some Spaniards ran away up to Maroon Town, Portland and surrounding areas in St Ann and St Catherine etc. Don't let European historians tell you otherwise. Another thing that gets me cross when these people say they discover this and that country or whatever, they discover nothing, it was always there long before they set foot on the Islands/countries because there will always be other people living on these islands.
This is pretty cool ! I’m waiting on my results and I hope I’m as surprised as you but I don’t think I will be because my family migrated from Scotland to New Zealand so I’m pretty much just Scottish 😂
I like your enthusiasm but many South Americans from Argentina and Uruguay (like Messi) have minimal or no indigenous ancestry whatsoever. Thei bulk of descendants emigrated from Northern Spain, Italy, Germany, Ireland and British Islands and even Eastern Europe.
Most of the Native americans were wiped out by disease (Smallpox) when the Spanish (Europeans) arrived which is why there is very little native American ancestry today. except maybe from the natives in Peru - they survived.
23&me would be a better test. You get so much more bang for your buck and when it comes to the African percentages, they have more African samples. They also give you your maternal and paternal genetic groups. My Heritage is more concerned with Jewish and Middle Eastern ancestry because they're an Israeli company. The North African is accurate, but they're limited in their African samples. The chance of having Kenyan ancestry is very slight.
Actually, what is missing is that Africans were there in Jamaica before the Spanish too. That's why the government in Jamaica doesn't own parts of the country...like "the Cockpit Country/Mountain of the Maroon people" who were from Ghana and spoke Twi. They along with others who were enslaved fought for J.A Independence. ❤

Hi Jason, don't just rely on one DNA testing company, for the fact Ancestry DNA company is more advanced and accurate than MyHeritage DNA company, you could do Ancestry, and it comes back that you are only 20% percent white European, because Ancestry DNA has a much bigger datebase than MyHeritage's database, and it's to do with how many people around the globe send their DNA samples to these DNA companies, Ancestry DNA database is more than twice the size of MyHeritage and it is more accurate than MyHeritage too, so I suggest you do Ancestry DNA as well. I have done MyHeritage and I was very happy with my results, but I am very curious to see what my Ancestry DNA results will say, so I have sent it offer and now waiting for my results.

As with this young contributor in the video, I clearly remember great-grandparents and great-aunties who were obviously white but not sure as yet which part of Europe they came from. I only know that my grandfather on my paternal side of the family was from Scotland and his maternal grandparents were my Portugal. I will at some point be doing my DNA as with the young man there have been rumours in the family that on my dad's side of the family, we also have Chinese Heritage. I too was born in Jamaica and when I was a young lass, I too had very Chinese-looking eyes and features same as one of my other sisters who is a twin, and one of my nieces, and now her daughter has the same features too. So, we never know. Talking about the Indigenous side of my family on my maternal side of my family they too have some slight Chinese-looking features same as those in the Americas/Latin America, such as Mexico and even in the USA and Canada, etc, and in Mongolia, etc. Very interesting mixture.

As a Jamaican who's done Ancestry, the only thing I find surprising is Kenya. East African isn't very common for Jamaicans.
That’s so true, I was shocked too because we’ve always heard about our ancestors mainly coming from west Africa
That’s just MyHeritage for some reason it shows a lot of Jamaicans with Kenyans heritage, and it’s probably because of the Bantu lineage from Congo and Cameroon.
What about north Africa?
The slave trade was mostly from the west coast of Africa.
Kenyans came to Jamaica after slavery too. I found out other African populations like Siera Leanne and Kenya also came.
I'm from America i took DNA test far as Caribbean it shows Saint parish Jamaica and Saint Elizabeth,Kingston.and far as Africa it shows Nigerian, Ghana, Angola east Asia Indonesian
Interesting
U know what I find interesting . I know a large amount of Ghanaians we’re taking to Jamaica . But most of my Jamaican friends that have done the ancestory test it’s come back as Nigerian as the main percentage

Not only in the patois of which there are many cross over words which are used in both Jamaica and Nigeria but there are areas such as "Abeokuta" and "Calabar" which are places that exist both in Nigeria and Jamaica.
@@MrsJen_xoxo: Sadly in Nigeria the education curriculum, much of which was based on the old colonial system, does not teach slavery and colonialism to any in-depth degree of enlightenment. The knock on effect of this is that if you go to Nigeria today, you'll find that the average Nigerian is completely ignorant of how people of African descent arrived in the diaspora.

My brother. The Asian part of your DNA is from Aboriginal blood of the Arawak ,Taino and Mayan blood. So the original people of Jamaica did not completely die out, they live inside of you!

I only know that my grandfather on my paternal side of the family was from Scotland and his maternal grandparents were my Portugal.
