19:38 Bradon: "this is the last big one I have cooking, maybe my last new world, certainly, for a while, for sure" Brandon: "I got like thirty" the absolute mad lad
BRANDON MULL IN THE FLESH, Mull was my go to fantasy writer when i was a kid, to the day i still follow his series, to see both of my favorite authors throughout my life is quite an event HOLY
Thank you both for writing those "bridge" series. It is so wonderful to know where to turn for stories appropriate for my daughter whose reading level often outpaces age-appropriate content.
Mull was one of my favorite authors of my childhood and Sanderson is one of my favorites of today. It’s so cool listening to a conversation between the two!
I'm from Central California, and I knew at least three Brandons in just one of my elementary school classes! (But I'm a few years behind you, your moms must have been ahead of the trend!) I love Brandon M's correlation between the "end of adolescence" themes in his writing and the eternal nature and progression of the soul. Beautiful!
Hi, my mom edited Fablehaven at Shadow Mountain! I remember going to the release party for the fifth book and had a really good time, and now my wife and I go to the Sanderson release parties every year, so thank you both for having such memorable release parties!
I adored Fablehaven as a kid and it still holds up. Some of the best general vibes and monster designs out there. His Beyonders series is also excellent, with again, awesome creature designs.
Mr. Mull, I am proud to say I saw every one of your college Divine Comedy shows starting with "Lord of the Engagement Ring" up until I graduated. They were every bit as awesome as you describe. Coincidentally, I actually quoted your sister this morning when my child asked what the best foreign language speaking mission was. I told them "Norte Dakota, Spanish Speaking". It is fun to hear you talk about your career and life since college. Good luck with your writing!
Jim Butcher actually has a joke about that somewhere on his website for when people complain about his writing speed. Something along the lines of Brandon growing alien clones for him but that it will take a while before they're ready and until then he's not going to be churning out books
I've read a lot of both of your books, and love them all. My interest in writing has grown a lot because of you guys. I'm sure you hear that a lot. I think I saw Mull at the store once. I definitely met Sanderson at a signing.
Beyonders is one of my favorite fantasy series! It was the first time I’d found a fantasy world that didn’t rely on the standard races of elves, dwarves, etc.
Fablehaven was one of the first book series I read, and Beyonders is one of the most brilliant YA book series I’ve read. So glad to see him, excited to read more of his work in between Cosmere books 😂
Man, it’s been YEARS since I’ve read or thought about Fablehaven. I loved those books growing up, but for some reason I just never think of them when I think back on my reading journey of falling in love with fantasy (although they were undoubtedly an early part of it). Guess it might be time for a re-read!
The Candy Shop War is still one of my favorite fantasy books. Brandon Mull visited my elementary school in Utah and he’s the reason I got into Fantasy.
I just started a relisten of the cosmere in preparation for (Ko)WaT starting with elantris, and I'm glad it still holds up for me even with how different in some ways it is from the newer stuff
Mull trying his best not to outright say new DuckTales is better, but as a product of the original I can safely say... the new one is way better. David Tennant as scrooge along with the parental double-encoded jokes just elevates it.
Yeah it's a bummer. The Name of The Wind is one of my favorite books, used to follow Rothfuss' blog but quickly realized he's too distracted by a thousand other things instead of working diligently on book 3.
So, you're saying I was vacationing on O'ahu at very likely the same time as Brandon Sanderson?.... I even had this crazy daydream at the airport of randomly running into Brandon Sanderson, and thought it would be funny to have him sign the Joe Abercrombie book I had on me at the time... *sigh*.... maybe next time.
ok a few comments, I have read and love both your (Brandon^2) books pretty much since I found them in ~2008. on to important stuff Hawaii.. Kauai is my favorite and the Napoli coast is just amazing, Maui has the road to Hanna, which again is crazy its like Napoli but you drive it.. Oahu is just to many people, but Turtle bay is likely the best place to say on the whole island for me as well.. The Stormlight books are just massive I have the series in hardback and on Audible so in the ramp up to a release I can relisten to them.. Looking forward to next weeks.
As a literature grad student, the answer to Sanderson’s question about the western origins for myths of mutability in humans is found in Ovid’s metamorphoses book 15. There’s a whole long soliloquy in that book that lays out that thesis.
Cool. The furthest back I was prepared to vouch for was the 1001 Arabian Nights with its recurring element of bored immortal genies messing with mortals for entertainment (and a source of novelty).
My biggest regret was when me and my family visited Brandon Mull at his own house I got no signatures no pictures nothing. I didn’t really know who he was until like a year later.
Neither of them are from Utah, yet they have moved there, where there are the most Brandons. The Brandon's must be Connected to their homeland. Any other Brandon's out there feeling a tug on your soul in the general direction of Utah?
32:25 now here I thought you must be flying into Hilo, because every time I check the 2 bookstores in HNL they have 2/3 Cosmere books, but they arent signed
Yes! The "original cast" of Divine Comedy including Brandon Mull was amazing! This was before you had groups making it big on the internet and so it was not until a later Divine Comedy cast that their skits would become so popular the cast members could make a career out of it after collage.
7:00 Some kids shows these days are, honestly, ridiculously good. I've been meaning to check out the new Ducktales. I'm currently watching The Owl House and Gravity Falls and, my god, where were these when I was a kid??? The best we had was Batman TAS, and I'm not complaining about that, for sure, but there was a serious lack of actually smart and funny kids programming.
"where were these when I was a kid" They were being watched by other kids who are now adults making the new shows. You can also see the major anime influence in the current crop of stuff and know a lot of these folks came up on Sailor Moon and Tenchi.
Brandon S. how many words? Brandon M. 150,000 Brandon S. Wow that is a lot Brandon M's reaction, shut up... just shut man. meanwhile Brandon S. sat at the table signing 150,000 sheets of paper with his name
I kinda feel bad about my one time meeting Brandon Mull. I asked him to sign some books for my kids. Then for some reason I mentioned that was a fan of Sanderson, not Mull.
I was listening to this without watching and all I could think was "this Brandon sounds like nice Rick Sanchez". If they ever need a new guy to do the voice they should hire him.
Dan is on a food heist
Plot twist: Every food heist ever mentioned on this podcast was actually Dan reminiscing about his past exploits.

Same
Brandon mull still holds up today as an adult to be honest
Fable haven made my younger sister fall in love with fantasy and reading in general. I'll be forever thankful to Brandon mull for that
I love that Brandon Sanderson takes breaks from writing books by writing books
A podcast with two of my favorite authors is an excellent way to start today!
19:38 Bradon: "this is the last big one I have cooking, maybe my last new world, certainly, for a while, for sure" Brandon: "I got like thirty" the absolute mad lad
Two of my favorite Brandon's!! Fablehaven was one of the first series I fell in love with. Thank you both for giving us such wonderful entertainment.
P.s. we miss you Dan!
These two guys have kept me engaged with reading for almost 20 years now. So happy to see this.

Brandon Mull was in Divine Comedy?! Amazing. I loved that group! Also have really enjoyed his books.
He's a legend!
Mull was one of my favorite authors of my childhood and Sanderson is one of my favorites of today. It’s so cool listening to a conversation between the two!
The venom with which he spat “how’s that, Dan?” took me so off guard. Quality material.
good end plot twist :)
Reading Fablehaven for the 6th time but now as a bedtime story for my own kid. The realism of Seth and Kendra as children holds up fantastically.
31:30 Brandon's eyes of love for his son is so nice

Yay! My two favorite authors! I'm really looking forward to the continued conversation with Brandon and Brandon.
Fablehaven is one of my all time favorite series. Really impacted my love of reading as I grew up!!
Love when y’all work together. Mull introduced me to fantasy in 2006 and Sanderson brought me back in when I was finishing college. Eternally grateful
Hi, my mom edited Fablehaven at Shadow Mountain! I remember going to the release party for the fifth book and had a really good time, and now my wife and I go to the Sanderson release parties every year, so thank you both for having such memorable release parties!
My Brandon Mull books are literally right next to my Brandon Sanderson books on my bookshelf 😂
I adored Fablehaven as a kid and it still holds up. Some of the best general vibes and monster designs out there.
His Beyonders series is also excellent, with again, awesome creature designs.

Do you ever wonder if Brandon cloned himself and that clone is currently writing?
Jim Butcher actually has a joke about that somewhere on his website for when people complain about his writing speed.
Something along the lines of Brandon growing alien clones for him but that it will take a while before they're ready and until then he's not going to be churning out books
no i never wondered that
I think he’s using his feet during recording sessions
No the original is writing. The clone is what you're currently watching.
Nah, he's just using his steel compounder.
I've read a lot of both of your books, and love them all. My interest in writing has grown a lot because of you guys. I'm sure you hear that a lot. I think I saw Mull at the store once. I definitely met Sanderson at a signing.
This reminds me I need to read some of Mull's books. They seem like very exciting and interesting fantasy stories!
I would highly recommend the Fablehaven series. Such a good series, although it is more leaned towards a younger audience. It's still a good read!
Beyonders is one of my favorite fantasy series! It was the first time I’d found a fantasy world that didn’t rely on the standard races of elves, dwarves, etc.
@@RealMythix we have all of those at my library I know!! Maybe after the Stormlight Archives reread I'm going through
I love Fablehaven and Beyonders.

Love the stories you both have "birthed" to the world. Also, you FINISH your series! (I'm looking at you Rotfuss!).
I have never seen the other Brandon before, and it was absolutely delightful.
Dan A-Brandoned Brandon!😂 Love Fablehaven and my son who hardly ever reads anything has read all of the Candyshop Wars books.
