I use rubber bands on mine which works well too. I just now at 61 decided to get the sewing room I really wanted and purchased several pieces. I got the Ikea Kallax (x2). They have lots of insert options and the wine bottle holder one is perfect for my stabilizers and interfacings. I used my Cricut to label each section so I can stay organized. I love it when I can find stuff! Thanks for sharing. I know that feeling of excitement when you know you did a good thing! Ha.
I do the same for wrapping paper...
This is what I do for my stabilizer too!
The stocking idea is fabulous. Reminds me of my grandma. She use to use stockings all the time to tie things together. I have one of these units and am going to utilize it just like this.
Love the knee high socks idea ❤😊
i absolutely love how Ikea thought of us crafters for storage. my hubby didn’t want me to use ikea. it took me time to convince him it is exactly what i want.
I have the large Alex unit. I cut a piece of 3/4 “ plywood for the top and covered it with padding and material for a pressing board. Works great next to my sewing machine along with my small iron for pressing
Thanks for that idea
Clever idea on the stockings for stabilizer rolls! I was thinking sticky notes….lol😅
The stocking idea is brilliant. I wrap my interfacing around lengths of pool noodle and pin it to the noodle.
Love the Alex Drawers!
I added inexpensive handles from Hobby Lobby to the sides so that I can pull them out from under my table. (Be sure to use little screws when attaching!)
Oh, one more thing -- there is a hack to make the bottom two drawers attach into ONE so that you have a really tall drawer!
I have a closet in my sewing room as it was a bedroom. I made some hanging bags with leftover decor fabric and clear vinyl for my stabilizers and interfacings. I made a little pocket on the front for scraps and instructions.
I cut the label from the wrapping around the roll of stabilizer and tuck it inside the tube in the center, so I always know what type of stabilizer it is. I also bought some white slap bracelets on Amazon and used my Cricut to create labels from adhesive vinyl to put on the slap bracelet. One labeled slap bracelet for each roll definitely helps keep the stabilizer rolls organized.
Love the stocking!! So smart!
Thanks Laura, lots of good idea’s especially the stockings for rolls of whatever items to be controlled.
That worked out perfectly!
My sewing room is a complete disaster, I feel like I’m never gonna live long enough to sew all the fabric and thread that I have accumulated.😮
Watching videos like this is so aspirational…
You and i must be twins!
The stabilizer storage idea is awesome. I will also use the idea for anything that is in rolls. ie wallpaper, gift wrap. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!!
I love the stocking idea. I have an Alex & use it for my thread. Such a tidy way to organize!
I love starting out the new year with re-organizing. I'm cleaning and creating a new work space for my embroidery supplies too. I love the cabinet you found at Ikea!
Thanks for sharing your new system, I love it. I was looking for a new way to store my supplies, and thanks to your video I have. Thank you.❤️
Smart tip on the stocking
Never would have thought of using stockings. Great idea!
Great unit for storage! I will definitely use the stocking idea.
I absolutely love your voice.
I love the stocking idea ...i have an alex unit and it stores almost all my essential sewing notions. I also have a metal drawer unit on wheels from ikea that has zips, binding, webbing, buttons, lace trims, some cottons and elastic. Always check ikea storage first as i find its always the best for what i need #IKEA #Crafting #sewing #soveryeasy #organised
The stocking idea is brilliant. 😊
Brilliant!!
Looks great
Thank you for this video! I don’t have the same embroidery supplies, but this did give me ideas for storing interfacing, batting, and of course all my spools of serger thread!
What a beautiful idea so compact. Thank you
I also use this unit for sewing organization. It is really perfect! Thanks for all your tips!
Those are a couple of great organization tips, thanks for sharing ❤
Great ideas. Always a challenge to organize the sewing room! I love the cabinet on wheels!
Excellent tips and organizational inspiration.
So many smart ideas. Thanks for sharing.
I love it!
Dear Laura, what a great idea with the socks. Thank you for sharing. I wish you and your family a happy New year. 🪡🪡
Excellent storage ideas & I love the stockings on the stabilizer! Brilliant 💕
Great way to keep everything in one place. I don't have space for that until, but I like the stocking and book holder ideas. Thanks
Fabulous organization video for the new year. I have this Alex drawer. Think Im going to clean it out and follow your direction! Thank You so very much!
Thank you for some of this great tips! I love the stocking idea! I use the IKEA peg boards above my cutting table. They help me to stay organized… I also started to use 12 by 12 clear scrap booking cases to hold upcoming projects and label them as such. I put the pattern fabric, border fabrics, pattern, and anything else I might need into the appropriate box. That being said …nI just totally discombobulated one box … as I got a new and better idea! Thank you for everything you teach us! Happy New Year!
I love the stocking idea and since I don’t have any, I was curious if they still come in white. They do so guess what I’m ordering? Yes, white nylon knee highs❤. I also have the same IKEA cabinets and love their versatility. Thanks for sharing your great tips which I will be using.
Nylon stocking, brilliant!!
Great ideas! I have embroidery supplies spread all over! Thanks for the inspiration.
That stocking idea is great
Thanks for the idea. Stockings
Great idea, thank you for sharing this idea with us 😊
I love the stocking ideal!
I will definitely use that!
I really like the stocking idea. I buy interfacing by the bolt. I would rather roll it up and put a stocking over ig. Fabulous! Happy New Year to you!
I LOVE the stocking idea!
Yes! I thought SEW too!!
AWESOME i ----reallllllly needed this thank you
So so satisfying
My friend uses those snap on bracelets for her stabilizer. You can get them plain and write on them. I got myself a bunch and they hold the rolls great, even the bigger rolls and since they're plain white, you can write on them as to what they are. I have a few rolls that are very long and they fit at the back of my sewing cabinet great! Love that cabinet but unfortunately I don't have the room for it.
Thank you for sharing your great ideas!!
Clever! I admire people who can embroider. Happy New Year, hugs, Chel 🌸
I think organizing stabilizer is one of the hardest things--mine are all in a drawer and not easy to manage. This video is helpful.
Love my alex drawer. It holds all my ironing supplies, and pattern making gadgets, as well as my two four and nine patches made from leftovers.
I have one.. it is great.
Nice. I hope this works for you. Would be nice to have an update video in about six months to see how you like this. We love IKEA and hv several of their products. Happy New Year!
Great ideas
The Alex-style cabinet would be great if the drawers pulled out all the way, but they only pull out about 70-80%, which is terrible for small items. I bought one of the tall narrow ones to use by my sewing machine for all the little things like thread, tools, elastics, tapes, etc., and had to revert back to my old cabinet because I absolutely hated that Alex cabinet because I couldn't access or even see much of the contents. So frustrating!
I now use the Alex for large items, like larger swaths of interfacing or fabric. I really wish they'd fix the design flaw in these units, because otherwise they'd be perfect for so many things.
I like to use slap bands for stabilizer, and lable them.
Thank you for sharing your tips on organizing embroidery supplies. I do not have space for that unit. However, I can use your tips in another unit I have.
I may have undiagnosed OCD, but I would then be tempted to sort the threads by colour.🤣
I use snap bands to keep my rolls of stabilizer closed and keep the package label with it.
Nice⚾️
Just curious, where do you store your embroidery attachment? They are quite wide for drawers.
Nice. I wish that cabinet was a little taller to meet with my other furniture.
Love the stocking idea! With a rubber band the edges can get torn ❤
I have this…. But I find the drawers don’t come out far enough…
That’s a major problem with IKEA furniture 😔
Hi Laura. The problem with Alex is the drawers don’t open all the way! I find it is difficult to see what’s in the back when I can’t open the drawer all the way. I have five units lined up under my 12’ APQS longarm table. My pantographs fit very well because they are long and they fit perfectly. Small Glide spools stand up great but I have a huge problem with the inside back of each drawer. I sure wish there was an easy fix to have the ability to pull the drawers all the way out. I was thrilled that I can just fit my longest rulers 18 x 6 in the drawers. One end fits down inside and the opposite end of the ruler sits on the lip of the other side and I can close the drawer. Wonderful. Or as close to wonderful as I can find at this point.
I appreciate you pointing that out! I don’t hv an ikea close by anyway (6-7 hour drive, each way) but it drives me nuts when I can’t see or access the back of the drawers. So, that’s a good thing to keep in mind, when selecting a unit.
They do make full extension drawer glides. It seems unfair that companies are too cheap to install that kind in the first place! But, if you want to go to the additional expense, you cd probably change them out.
Oh my heck! I thought you were going to tie the knee high around it!
Happy 2025❤
Where is the hoop mat from?
I love the stocking idea!!
