In order to reduce the number of parts, flux is needed. It must be liquid, so rosin is practically not suitable for these purposes. do not use highly acidic fluxes. Usually, fluxes are written on whether they are intended for soldering SMD parts, but it is worth focusing on the marks "clean-free" and "acid-free".
Liquid flux must be applied with a brush, and pasty flux can be smeared with a small spatula or some kind of device.
It is more desirable to work, of course, with a soldering station, because it has an adjustable temperature and you can set the selection (lower) for consumption and comfortable soldering. But with an ordinary soldering iron, everything should be well received.
