Thank you Jethro, for reviewing our LUNA 2P tent. We know this is not the lightweight bike picking piece of kit that you would desire or prefer, but we can work on that! ;) Always interesting to read what your viewers have to say and that you are indeed correct, we do listen and consider all constructive feedback! Thank you again, Tentsile Team.
Thanks for letting me try it out. I look forward to actually sleeping in it soon. There is room in the world for all sorts of tents and if you do decide to tackle an ultralight 1p offering then I'll be more than happy to to chip in ideas and field test prototypes ;)
I remember that night very well. The big storm, and the end of the big tent. I honestly dunno if any tent would have survived that. Didn't the ATBA lose a marquee as well??
The travelers choice, strength and durability, or lightness and reduced size, and always the reality of price. Happy New Year, looking forward to watching your channel.
Looks like a very nice tent, as you say, for the purpose intended - car camping etc. and, as one comes to expect with your videos, very well balanced. Thanks for sharing. Happy New Year.
Big Agnes, Sierra Designs tents, REI tents, MSR tents, NorthFace tents, Kelty tents, NEMO tents...these are very good quality tents. Usually the lighter weighted ones are more expensive. I purchased a Sierra Design Tent back in 2020; It is spacious, lightweight, allows camper to stargaze, easy to install and break down, and rolls up like a burrito. There is a lighter weight version (but not by much), and as for women (who may be particular on colors) I liked the color selection for the tent too; Navy Blue, Yellow, and White. It is color coordinated in reference to matching the rainfly, to have attachment points correct.
I would have quite liked a choice of color when I got the copper spur but it was only available in here-I-am silver and orange at the time 😉 It kinda allows you to stargaze if you don't pitch the fly but in the UK I rarely trust the weather enough to do that 😉
Yeah, they are a decent bunch and I do like their kit. This was filmed well before Christmas but all kinds of things have been making demands on my time recently so I only just got to the edit now. I hope I can get my schedule back up to speed in the new year but who knows? Life is tricky to manage sometimes. Happy New Year to you too :)
The mesh-top tents really save weight, and are super great for ventilation, however, there is a significant drawback for some cyclists, depending on where they pitch. I have used a NEMO mesh-top, and loved it, but in desert regions where I have cycled, there are occasional extreme wind sandstorms, and therein lies the problem. With my standard non-mesh-top tent, I can close the ventilation windows to keep out the sand, but even with a rain fly over the top, a mesh-top tent will fill with sand during a night of 112 KPH winds (70 MPH). I recommend both kinds of tents if a cyclist is planning on desert camps as part of their touring plans. In regions vegetated as where you are pitching for this video, a mesh-top is perfect! Looks like an awesome tent! Thanks for sharing! steve
Good insights, thanks. This one is probably too heavy to take on serious rides anyway. I'll stick with my Copper Spur which I love. Deserts aren't something I'll probably ever have to consider in this part of the world so I've never even thought about the different requirements. Give global warming a few more years and maybe I'll hit you up for some more tips though 😉
Good to see a video again from you Jethro. Nice to get your opinion. I own about 6 tents plus bivvy and hammock options. And I have 2 at around 3kg, one is a teepee style and I really like it a lot my favourite when I take my dogs with me but it is big and heavy. Honestly though what is an extra kilogram really for comfort sake. Lastly tents are expensive and the lighter they are the more they cost, a well made robust tent however is important. And this Luna seems durerable.
Indeed. Bicycles and tents are something one can never have too many of ;) I know some people care only about things being as light as possible but I agree that there are different use cases and different tools to fulfil them. The Luna definitely feels well made and solid and I'll be taking it for some trips as the weather starts to improve for sure.
Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it. Sorry I've been a bit quiet recently. I will try to get back to a more regular upload schedule this year but I'm not sure what shape 2023 is gong to be yet so we shall see...
My only gripe is after a long day of cycling this tent is a chore to put up and take down, pack and unpack. But like you said its more of a holiday camping tent.
No need to apologize Jethro. I would love to see you trying out this tent in a down pour, in the future. You could always drag Alan along for the adventure. Have a Happy new year.
I will try to get out for an overnighter in it at some point though I won't be praying for rain even to make a good video ;) Alan is in the middle of renovating his new house so bike trips are harder to organise at the moment but I'm sure there will be something coming soon. Happy New Year

I'm glad some of my reviews have landed so positively. And I'm sure Tentsile are glad too. They are a great bunch of folk and I really like their gear - I'd like to try out some of the bigger tree tent models this year if I can swing it.
Love your intro! :-) Happy New Year, Jethro. I hope that 2023 holds many extended opportunities for your bicycling and other adventures! Since I'm enjoying this vid over a nice, hot cup of coffee, I see it only fitting that I treat you to one in this New Year. Thanks for your tour of this tent and you have piqued my interest in it for use with my wife when we go camping in our state's national forests. However, given that my wife likes to fill out tents with the comforts of home, my better judgment leads me to at least a 3- or perhaps 4-person sized tent. Cheers!
You are very kind thank you. I hope your 2023 is equally kind and comes with lots of adventures for you too - in the most luxuriously kitted out that the world has ever seen :) I have to say, much as I love the wild camping, minimalist way of doing things I always love those well provided car camping trips with duvets and and the little tastes of home ;)
My thoughts.....Looks like a nice piece of kit. My preference for the colour would be a green or brown outer and a yellow inner. I do agree with you, the zipped doors may be better if they could be secured open at the top instead of the bottom but I can see the logic in doing what they did. Perhaps a double ended zip like that used on many waterproof jackets may work so the choice of either position is there? Happy New Year to you and yours.

Wonderful intro Jethro! I enjoy your productions and style. These nylon lightweight tents around £500 dominating the UL market atm have limitations. I picked up a damaged Vango Helium Carbon 200 with a broken carbon pole and rip that I repaired. Just over 1kg, but the nylon sags when wet and the tent then flaps in the wind. I wouldn't trust it in high winds. I prefer the heavier Vango polyester tents, similar in materials to the Tentsile Luna, which maintain structure in the wet and the extra weight affords strength too. The Vango Tryfan 200, infrequently mentioned, is a battleship of a tent, split between 2 is 1.8kg each. It withstands the worst of Dartmoor.
Its worth considering all options. Weight is often seen as the only important metric but actually there are many more features that make a tent (or anything in fact) the "right" one. I like a fairly light tent because I'm a fairly soft camper. I don't go out in the really big weather ;)
Those colours and shots are incredible thank you so much for sharing it with us really enjoyed this and felt encouraged to go for a walk in my own local woodland ! New sub here !

Thanks for the video, looks like a nice tent. Just a personal observation - it looks like the outer flysheet does not cover, or overlap, the footprint. Would this cause water to run of the outer and pool in the bathtub floor maybe. 👍
That is more down to a hasty pitch than a design floor. I was on a bit of a time limit that day and probably should have spent a bot longer on the setup as it was my first time. You can definitely get good coverage over the floor and I won't be worrying about getting flooded out. I'll try to do a trip or two with this one soon and see how well placed my confidence is though :)
I hope so too, and the same to you. So far I've been viewing the new year through the bleary eyes of one absolutely riddled with flu but I think that is on the way out now. Bring on some adventures!
Happy New Year JJ! 🌟🙂👍 Like the tent, but too blue & bright inside for me. I like the aluminium poles and the vent and storage are good though! & good quality. Yep, doors need the be able to be rolled up to the side. ATB 😁 👍
It isn't as blue inside as it comes across on camera. Fairly blue but not overly so. Not sure if there are other colour options or if it is blue all the way down.
9:20 I wonder whether you could counteract that sag with some paracord running from the vent tieback loop up to the point where the three poles meet. I could see it being really annoying otherwise, unless you're short enough that you don't have your stuff banging into your face all night.
Entirely possible. This was also my first pitch so I may have missed some easy tweaks. Even an idiot proof pitch gets easier after a few attempts. I will revisit with another video in the future if any amazing tips come to light.
Happy new Year, Jethro, and welcome back!!! At 3.6Kg, they do know what your channel is about, don't they? Good looking tent and design though. But the bathtub style ground cloth will catch and hold water, which is not good. And a zip-open mesh vent is superfluous. I think I'd be feeling kinda blue in that tent ;-) Thanks!
I've not tried it in heavy weather but I can't see the footprint holding water. It would keep debris out but has plenty of drain holes should you pitch it in a way that gathered any water. Even I don't really know what my channel is about. Just getting out and having adventures really. This isn't a bikepacking tent but its still a good tent so I'm happy enough trying it out.
Looks like a sweet rig Jethro. Question… can you pitch it with the main tent body and fly without the heavy groundsheet? Looked like the ground sheet was part of the structural piece that held a couple pole tips important for the structural integrity of the tent overall. Just wondering. You’re absolutely right about the summer breeze! It is nice to be able to open the screen windows as that will let a lot more breeze in. Unless theirs tons o bugs. Yeah, good lookin little shelter. I actually like the color. It’s a color that if you and a buddy are stormbound in and you’re having a couple sherrys while you play a bit o cribbage you won’t get depressed as that is a nice color for that. Hope your holidays were great my friend and that we get to see the old firebox nano out in the trail again this season 👍🏼. Take care sir. NQU
I haven't tried it but I'm fairly sure it would pitch without the footprint. The corners are part of the body and the cross pole is held by straps to the inner floor. I'll give it a try next time I'm out but I don't see why it shouldn't work. I quite like the colour as well and it isn't as overpoweringly blue inside as it looks on camera. This one will be seeing some action for sure this year. And hopefully the Nano will be out to keep it company as well HNY to you 😀
Super video. How are the zip and seam quality? I love my Copper Spur for bike packing and I think the luna would make a good addition for car camping. Thanks! Happy New Year!
They seem really good. I am also a massive Copper Spur fan so one of things I like about the Luna is that the fabric and zips are all a bit heavier duty so you don't have to worry about snagging quite as much. The fabric and hardware seem to be the same as are used in the tree tents so I trust them.
I always seem to end up with brightly coloured tents but I know what you mean. A nice forest green and 40% lighter would be great - we shall see if any more are in the works.
Happy New Year Jethro from myself and the keeper of the BBB's. So what kind of water column can this tent support ? Also, keep your fingers crossed because I am gambling on the lottery tomorrow as it's $785,000,000.00 and I'm buying you a ticket.
I will recross my fingers. I've been occasionally dabbling in the UK lottery recently but it has been no more forthcoming than yours. Its almost like the powers that be don't know who we are??
This one is definitely more for the car campers and the campsite holiday. I doubt I'll be taking it far by bike but it will definitely get some use when I want a little extra space and luxury.
This looks like a quality product; but exactly as you say, great for car camping; but too heavy for backpacking or bike packing! If they lose the foot print, or make it lighter. Shorten the poles and guys. Then if the price is right, it could be a real contender. By the way, that was a good review and clearly an honest opinion; most definitely not pandering to the manufacturer. I'm sure they will be grateful for that; especially if its a "work in progress"..after all you cant improve something if you're not open to, or admit to any short comings.
I think the wetness of this country is greatly overstated. My 1P tent can be pitched fly first but I have almost never had to do it that way. It's a nice feature but not having it isn't really a deal breaker
@@Bobario1 I dunno really. Most of my old friends have just moved away over the years - maybe something I said? ;) I just happen to have quiet a widely distributed friend network and so its natural to build long distance bike rides around those locations I suppose.

An 8 lb. tent for bikepacking is a deal killer. Even 14:56 if it’s complimentary. Even if one is not a ultralight camper.
This one is definitely more for the car campers and the campsite holiday. I doubt I'll be taking it far by bike but it will definitely get some use when I want a little extra space and luxury.
Split between 2 might be an option.
@@trevorhill1577 potentially yes. It is definitely spacious enough for two
This looks like a quality product; but exactly as you say, great for car camping; but too heavy for backpacking or bike packing!
Yeah it's a good tent. I'm very interested to see what happens with it in the future. Hopefully it will lead to a Gen2 and onwards!
An inner first tent? How is that great in our rainy country.
I think the wetness of this country is greatly overstated. My 1P tent can be pitched fly first but I have almost never had to do it that way. It's a nice feature but not having it isn't really a deal breaker
It does look decent… but will it keep the zombies out? ⛺️🧟♂️
It will not. It just amplifies the soulless moaning as they surround you.
I love eating bugs off a stick.
Its probably the best way to eat bugs ;)
@@JethroJessop One thing occurred to me watching your videos. How do you know so many people from all around the world?
@@Bobario1 I dunno really. Most of my old friends have just moved away over the years - maybe something I said? ;)
I just happen to have quiet a widely distributed friend network and so its natural to build long distance bike rides around those locations I suppose.
@@JethroJessop Yeah must be great to pop in and see an old friend while you are on tour. I thought maybe you had a job which involved dealing with people in other countries.
@@Bobario1 Nah, just a scattering of friends all over the place.
It does make the cold, wet days easier to deal with if you know you are always heading towards a friendly home with a shower and a comfy bed. Even if it is weeks away it's still nice to know it's there.
The color no no
It is very blue. Not sure if that is just what I got or if there are other options though.
In a emergency situation where you need help, the color is perfect
@@edgit69 the colour is only an issue for stealth camping and that really isn't the focus of this tent
@@JethroJessop I was actually gonna say also it's a personal preference. Totally understand what you're saying 👍
@@JethroJessop for cycle touring stealth is apart of the game
