I get your point, but I think that what made the Shoah so different from anything else was the systematicity with which it was carried out and the extensive use of modern technology: it was industry, fordism, applied to extermination; there are some beautiful but haunting pages in Grossman "Life and fate" that really made this clear. But just to be clear, I don't think what jews have suffered give Israel any justification for the horrors they are committing, on the contrary they above anyone else should have higher moral standards.
Agreed, I think BE is misreading or thinks of a different intention when ppl say “Israel does not represent all Jews despite them saying they do and anti Zionism does not equal antisemitism, Judaism is not Zionism etc” is more imo about differentiating Jewish ppl as a whole from Zionism as a political settler colonial ideology and a ethno nationalist state project vs a religion and ethnicity of Judaism in order to make sure ppl don’t get duped and conflate the two and consequentially come to the antisemtic conclusion that Israel is a terror state supported by all Jews like some monolithic Zionist force who control the US , the media etc… that’s why I emphasize it at least and not really bc of the underlying assumption ppl have that if all Jews support it and are Zionists that justifies Israel’s existence and atrocities but I guess the actual facts about the variety of beleifs about that in the Jewish population itself also help debunk that flawed belief somewhat but to completely decouple the two concepts in ppls minds is more valuable of a realization than just that not all Jews are bloodthirsty Zionists which I feel should be common sense if we all agree ppl and ethnicities aren’t monolithic in thought but alas that’s not always the case with some dumbasses and the media tends to repeat those myths about Jews and their support of Zionism and Israeli govt

You're still a good man. Btw german collective guilt is such a myth that breaks down at the slightest inspection. For example if blue eyed, caucasian people were suffering in Palestine right now, this "German guilt" thing wouldn't be brought up Germany would condemn it immediately. Its just white supremacy/ colonialism masking itself in the clothing of 'guilt'.
Jewish exceptionalism in the West also goes both ways. They are exceptionaly good and can commit genocide or they are exceptionally bad and must be annexed to their own state. In both most end the same with Jews secluded and Palestinians victimized. How any Jew continues to buy into this narrative will always be beyond me.
I had this moment 25 yrs ago waiting at a traffic light in LA near the Beverly Center and I'm looking through the windows of a fancy Mercedes perpendicular to me at an advertisement for the Holocaust Museum exhibit on a bus stop bench. Then I noticed the homeless guy sleeping on it in rags and that the driver in the Mercedes was a Jewish women in a fur coat with mezuzah earrings and a son in the back with his yarmulke on. Made me question why we were obsessed with people suffering so long ago that were fine today and ignoring people currently suffering.

Careful not to conflate antiracism with colorblindness. Plus, having support from jewish people does help. It validates your struggle, serves as a reminder to alienate antisemites but not jewish people. And also serves to show that the institutions committing these crimes are distinct from the people they claim to represent, even if they at all times seek to control and use them
I'm sorry but no. Jewish folks are not going to liberate Palestine. We do not need them to "validate our struggle", because our struggle is inherently valid as we are fighting colonialism. This is really gross and decentres Palestinians from their own liberation.
If antizionist Jews want to remove themselves from the umbrella of zionism and Israel that's their own movement and struggle. We are not responsible for that.

its crazy that calling a person dirty and smelly isnt anitsemitic jst because the person who said it is jewish but saying children shudnt die is antisemitic
this video isnt about some inflated sense of self from jewish people, its about jewish people being treated like perpetual victims despite having the highest standard of living amongst any religious group in every western nation- they are obviously successful materially. American exceptionalism is almost the opposite, that americans are the hero of everything and that they are essentially good.
What you're speaking about was actually my first interaction with Israel-Palestine. Some years ago when I was learning about it for the first time in history class, my teacher cautioned me on possibly anti-semitic writing I'd used in an essay - which was shocking to me. It's not that I had any particular inclination to either side - I was a detached 15-year-old with no connection to the place, having never even heard the word "Nakba" - nor did I have any negative opinions on Jews, because I had no opinions on Jews. I'd never met one. I thought of them as nothing more than another religious group, the same as Christians, or Hindus, or Buddhists, or whatever. Semites had never caused me any inconvenience or harm, and I certainly never believed any fascist conspiracy theory about them. I just thought I was simply writing what had happened in that awful calamity in 1948: Jews massacred, pillaged, and looted in a brutal campaign of settler-colonialism. Arabs fought back and did some of the same, I thought I was being even-handed. I suppose 15-year-old me, with his limited understanding of politics and the world, would choose pacifism if forced and oppose Zionism on the claim that Theocracy is wrong. But Israel isn't even that. I can't think of a way to end this. Free Palestine. Thanks for posting this
Ethan's a strange case, at the start of this he was relatively open-minded and well-meaning even though he was very uninformed. But then he took a HUGE far-right turn and went down the fascism rabbit hole and became so hateful and bitter, and he's just completely cooked his brain in the process. It's really sad to see
To be real he was always bad in term of views and politics, most "open minded apolitical" people are and they just conform to the political zeitgeist of their social class

9:21 as an anti-zionist jew, even I've had cases where I'm pressured to remind zionists that I'm Jewish and, therefore, can't be antisemitic. When it should just be "no this isn't antisemitic". In some way it seems like the most reliable way of getting people to pay you any mind and not write you off as something you aren't. IT KINDA BLOWS
Ethan lived in the apartheid and stoped his news show when it would mean reporting on the victims of that apartheid being genocided because he felt bad hearing about it. He put his feelings over his victims. Go watch him and Hila on that old podcast ep talking about her time in the idf and listen for the words “terrorist city” in reference to Ramallah and “did you take IT with you” in reference to the Palestinian Hila was detaining there. The fans want Ethan to adequately cover the genocide in the way it deserves. It’s the least a beneficiary of apartheid could do. And then he could talk about antisemitism but putting that in front of his victims is so bad. A hospital in Lebanon is bombed and he’s talking about hasan when the last time he mentioned a hospital bombing was to say Israel wouldn’t bomb a hospital in gaza. Now there’s no hospitals in gaza and no mention of it from Ethan. Never mind what he said about the Palestinian victims of IDF r*pes. He is deplatforming people talking about gaza for antisemitism when he refuses to talk about his victims like those people are. His Silence doesn’t prove change from him and he can’t recognize that.

I appreciate the honesty and integrity of this video and I hope that your contribution nudges those that are just itching to speak the truth to overcome their fear and just do so.
This might be the most important video you’ve made. It’s true, as a Jew who speaks honestly about Israel and being antiZionist I have always watched gentiles tense up at my rhetoric. Like they agree with what I’m saying but could never say it out loud themselves. We have to move past that if we’re gonna save the Palestinians.
This decontextualizimg to present an eternal victim you speak of is one of the more direct examples that shows liberal identity politics as a form of race essentialism that fits perfectly within the framework if white supremacy.
Thank you so much for speaking out. You're not being egotistical about your knowledge of these historical events, your stance makes it quite clear that you are much more versed than this platform as a whole. I hope the future is filled with more people like you. We all need it.
In Vietnam, the problem is actually the reverse, I have seen a lot of ill informed Vietnamese who are against Israel action said that “Shitler biggest mistake is that he didn’t remove all of Jews” and other actual anti-Semitic stuff as they conflate Israeli/zionist and Jew as the same, and I blame Zionism for promoting such conflation.
This is, in spite of the disparity in objectively compared to your others, one of the best videos you’ve made. Thank you for calling this spade a spade. You do good work.
It's arguably the strongest example a broader problem. The moment we blurred the line between calling for action and calling for violence we forged another tool of oppression. What should have been a universally uplifting move towards precision of language and enhanced communication instead became a cudgel to beat down discourse itself. For now all we can do is try to avoid being bludgeoned.

in my country there is no israeli embassy, there is a palestinian one, my country fought agaist israel in the 70's and is a laic country not a islamic one, talking badly agaist the israeli occupationg was a every day thing when i was growing up so i was kind of shocking about the fuss in western media and social media about the massacres of october 7 when happen and the posterior bombing campain, that was simply business as usual to me. A palestinian friend of my family was killed in the 80's by a helicopter attack and only his arm was remainig (that was the only way of identifying him) what was left of his family flee to jordan. He was a doctor by the way to those who only view palestinias as PNA or Hamas fighters. In conclution these massacres are happenig since forever and not knowing this i understand that is a matter of expossure to those events, but looking to the side of the occupation only is a fault of western societies by never looking to the suposedly enemy view of events, this is still happenig to this day, it happen with bassar al assad regime, it happen with gadaffi regime, is happening with Kim jong Un regime etc. I am not saying that those regimes are perfect or anything but every conflict has a reason to be and those reasons are not always what the anglosaxon media say what it is.
I think for me what allows me to be outspoken in my own personal sphere is to just denounce any notion that Israelis are “Semites” because they’re not. Palestinian Christians are Semites, Palestinian Muslims are Semites, Palestinian Jews are Semites as they are indigenous to these lands. Israelis are from the US or some European backwater and are all basically Aryans so anyone who tries to label my denouncement of their Zionist Apartheid existence by calling me an “antisemite” doesn’t effect me because they are wrong and I won’t hold my tongue on it.
WOW.. I was just thinking about this this morning but dindnt get this far in my analysis. 100% in agreement. Thanks for posting - i know this will drive the reactive trolls to you.
Im Jewish, but wasn’t raised Zionist. No one needs my or any other Jews approval/permission to criticize Zionism, Israel or the Israeli government. The Israeli government has worked *very* hard to tie any criticism of the Israeli government to antisemitism. Theyve also worked very hard to make people believe that you have to believe in Zionism in order to be Jewish and I really resent that. Zionism is a far right wing sociopolitical ideology, not a religion. Unfortunately the Israeli government has been very successful with that propaganda.

But just to be clear, I don't think what jews have suffered give Israel any justification for the horrors they are committing, on the contrary they above anyone else should have higher moral standards.
The Congo, Brazil, America should be viewed with the same disgust

Regardless, I dont feel like I have an option but to weaponize my identity in this aspect because of the barrage of hallucinated accusations of anti-semetism.

I think it does help to some extend that Jewish groups align themselves with the pro palestinian cause because it immediately cuts trough the weaponized false anti-semitism accusations. If germany is arresting jewish protesters for being anti semitic that immediately exposes their true agenda. That said the way the media has historically and still is handling any criticism of Israel has forced anyone critiquing them walking on egg shells forcing them to use perfect impossible to misconstrue language, so agreed!

A confirmation of your thesis:
Every time you said the word "jewish" rather than "zionist" or "Israeli", i felt a chill and felt uncomfortable, and then paused, considered what you said, and realized that you were entirely right and had not said anything that could even be misconstrued as antisemtic.
As much as i dont like you, you helped me become fervently anti-zionist all the way back in 2022, and i am grateful to you for helping me on my journey to the left.

i think it’s testament to his unwavering consistency and conviction that people can hate him and still appreciate what he does and gain something of substance from him.
Thank you for this video. I really feel this guilt against speaking out. Especially, because i am german and the heavy indoctrination here.
oooof; i didn’t even consider how awkward it must be to be an anti-zionist blonde hair blue eyed german
I should not have to say, that i am german. It does not change a thing. I did too long nothing, because of my own failings.
Well thank you very much for speaking out.
Exactly the sins of your father aren't your own. You should look at things the way they are not through the lens of a crime you didn't even commit.

"Jewish exceptionalism is just conducive for western geopolitical interests... to help justify western support of israel" GO OFFFFFF
I'm not even a public speaker with their livelihood in the line yet chicken out of talking about Israel's horrors in the way it deserves when talking to others IRL. Good work here, hopefully we keep seeing a favorable trend in the matter.

Badempanada hits the nail on the head once again.
Being able to use institutions to deal with your personal grievances is an enormous sign of privilege

"Jewish Exceptionalism = American Exceptionalism?" Discuss
Yes it is yes it does. And let's make sure this is a thing that's acknowledged worldwide...Israel and White Zionsm is an amerikkkan creation
like little bro and big bro because that American arrogance goes further back
No.
yep, zionists have learned from the best (colonial west) + they added supremacist religion
this video isnt about some inflated sense of self from jewish people, its about jewish people being treated like perpetual victims despite having the highest standard of living amongst any religious group in every western nation- they are obviously successful materially.
Thanks for posting this
Another consecutive day of Mr Empanada never missing.
Great vídeo!

Hugs and best regard to you in your recovery from the horrible things you have been through. The capitalists and their oppressive takeover of the internet (I am old enough to remember when we really believed that the internet and the www would usher in the end of capitalism) is destroying humanity.
I’ve been feeling this way for so long. Thank you.
His Silence doesn’t prove change from him and he can’t recognize that.

in my country there is no israeli embassy, there is a palestinian one, my country fought agaist israel in the 70's and is a laic country not a islamic one, talking badly agaist the israeli occupationg was a every day thing when i was growing up so i was kind of shocking about the fuss in western media and social media about the massacres of october 7 when happen and the posterior bombing campain, that was simply business as usual to me.
Well done man.
We all know this but to convince you have to self censor if you aren't going to explain what you mean for half an hour or more.
It means saying "Jewish" instead of "Zionist" or "Israeli"
Criticizing the settler colonial Ethnofascist State of Israel isn't antisemitism but a necessary profilaxy against antisemitism.
It reminds me of the Simpsons episode on the Screamapillar.
Ethan never mentions the Irish and we are feeling a little forgotten.
You can spot an Ashkenazi a mile away tho
