This is my favorite album of all time, and I think your guys best one. It's the closest y'all have gotten to a conceptual album with the Apocalypse imagery and Spencer's writing is SO good I love the "we were a race, a human race" bit. And the way it gets heavier and heavier to a soft finish is so satisfying and creates almost a narrative feel, like it's describing the world ending in each song and the last two are the quiet desolate aftermath. It's really beautiful, I listen to every few months to get my fix lol, it's an album that's changed my life and my way of thinking, and so different for it's time. God in the album is viewed as a vague spiritual entity that's really universal and not specifically christian and I appreciated that level of writing from Spencer. All in all, just a big fan who wanted to share this, love you guys. P.s. A Vinyl re-release would be super great for it lol.
Now look at the Erase Me doc where the first thing thing Matt Squire says is "get rid of all breakdowns". Yet here they're all so stoked about a breakdown in the first song that they're talking about it for 20 minutes
I love Erase Me, but I don’t feel like Matt Squire was a good fit for Underoath as a producer. They even said it themselves that Matt Goldman is one of the most important pieces of the Underoath sound. Would really like to see them get back with him for the next record.
@@theriffnotebook8412 I kinda agree. But something we need to take into account is who Underoath was when they made those records with Goldman. He was the right person at the time to see what they were trying to build. I think we can say producers are like navigators, where they help people find the right path to take given the end result they want. At those points in time what they wanted was different than with this last record. So it only makes sense that they had someone else help navigate the path. I don't think they should have Goldman on for a while, maybe in the future for a "classic" UO sound 5 albums from now. I'm definitely looking forward to who they decide to work with in the near future. I really hope its someone very different from anyone they've worked with in the past.
Squire fucking ruined that record, I just pretend it doesn’t exist and never happened. I know Aaron and Spencer just want to be a Paramore/BMTH pop band now but I pray they get a proper rock producer next time and all 6 of them write the music together to pick up where Disambiguation left off
I knew they probably wouldn't talk about the spiritual side of these tracks, so I'll just say that on the track "Too Bright To See, Too Loud To Hear", it has aged like a fine wine. I read a ton of the Old Testament, and with books like Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Judges, Jeremiah and the thesis of Deuteronomy are all just so well reflected in that song. Israel forgot the God that brought them out of slavery, and became worse than the nations around them. But in all those books there is still hope: the first one that comes to mind is Jeremiah 31:31 when God still promises grace to people who are in the midst of their sin. That’s “how you can still get home”
@@BigAlvideos101 I don't know- I think I'm glad they are though, so there's no mistake in what they intended and believe. It got more interesting when they had the lead singer from Copeland talking about their colab on "Some Will Seek Forgiveness", they had a lot to say about Christian pressures and spiritual muddiness in the scene at the time, that a lot of it was fake and performative. Very disappointing, but I should have never looked to young rockstars and musicians for spiritual direction in the first place.
@@wallboi7 I'm glad about that too- don't get me wrong, but since Spencer pretty much denounced his own faith, I'm kind of surprised he even agreed to it!
@@wallboi7 I've met all of these guys in real life several times. I'm on a first name basis with some of them. What I know is that some of the band did lose their faith, some are still devout Christians, and some are believers but not into organized religion anymore. Chris is still very religious if I recall. Spencer I know has said basically he was going through the drug problem and everyone shunned him rather than trying to get him help, and he slowly realized the Christian scene was kind of fake. I was an atheist for a long time, but I'm turning back towards Christianity, and I still understand Spencer's point of view. Remember the bible verses about vanity, and "showing off" your faith to look good to others? It's a sin. I feel like a lot of people in the Christian bands were like that. FWIW, while we don't hang out or text or anything, I'm on a first name basis with Spencer, and he is a very good guy. I do have to say though, as a "hail satan" metalhead teenager, hearing UO totally rock out and later in the set say "we stand here in the name of Jesus Christ" had a positive influence on me. I do miss that aspect.
I love “The Created Void”. It’s one of my favourite songs of the album, but when they went to Mexico City, I remember I was standing in front of Grant among the crowd and the bass sound is even better... it sounded amazing.. even better than in the album.. from that day, I respected Grant even more! haha
Oh, I'm in over my head again Reach in and grab a hold of me I'm so scared that I've started to slip They say that I'll never change I'll prove them wrong, prove them wrong
Can you guys re-upload with the muted parts unmuted? Seeing a lot of people say it's due to various copyright issues. Missing some of the best discussions and best parts of the album because of it :-(

I saw etid underoath and maylene and the sons of disaster play together in Manhattan years ago at the Ralph Lauren theater and it was the best show I've ever seen. Also drove from new York to eerie fucking Pennsylvania, the most sketchy town I ever went to....a ten hour drive to see etid and it was such a good choice. It was a tiny venue it was so personal I love it. Also the first track on this album is definitely top ten breakdown Jordans 100 percent correct it's such a great song
It's funny, I wasn't really a big underoath guy when these records were being made and released and now I look back in awe just like "wow, there was some great music being made when I was in highschool". Define and lost in the sound are great, great, great albums!
Breathing in a New Mentality and Anyone Can Dig a Hole But It Takes a Real Man to Call It Home should always be played together, period. Jordan had the right idea, he was right into track 2
This is my favorite album. It came at such a needed time in my life. I love the drums, I love the vocals, I love the riffs, I love everything about it. I wouldn’t change a single note. It takes me back to screaming it at the top of my lungs in my friend’s red mini van on the high way.
I got to see them on their tour cycle for this album twice in Ontario Canada, I got to see them 2008, 09, 2010 - still have all the ticket stubs.. some of those tix were only 28 bucks lol
This album was absolutely phenomenal and brilliant. Still to this day, it is my #1 favorite album in the entire world with the songs created void and too bright to see as my absolute favorite songs...ever. 👏 This zoom call was a bit disappointing though with part of the audio being muted but also the fact nobody talked about these lyrics hardly at all!!! This album spoke so much to me when I was in a really bad spot in my life. UO helped me keep going but also helped me look for God for my strength. It's so disheartening hearing how some of the band members have lost their faith now. I imagine if they read the book "I don't have enough faith to be atheist" by Frank Turek and Norman Geisler that may change their thought process. It definitely helped me understand the truth and evidence of God and not just God, but Jesus and the truth of Christianity. But back to the album, this was so awesome to watch everyone listen to their old music again ☺️ and hear all about it and their thoughts. This album will always be #1 in my ❤️🤘
Grant has a nice mic set up and sounds like a radio broadcaster. All of the rest are using crappy headphone mics or laptop mics and yet the chat is talking about how loud Grant is.
