  • This video shows what I had to do to get rid of a hard limp condition with codes p2602/P702 on a Mercedes c240 4matic. Conductor plate was replaced but it DID NOT resolve the issue. Solenoids ended up being the problem even though everything pointed to the conductor plate.
    The conductor plate for this and other 722.6 vehicles:
    amzn.to/2wgOl9I
    The solenoid kit for all 722.6 transmissions:
    amzn.to/2vi9SPw
    The code reader I use, which works awesome on all vehicle models is:
    amzn.to/2VyDOlc

    Thank you for the information, when I listen to bunch of those information, I will never buy Mercedes, even German car again. If you have a lot of money, you better poured them into the pacific. why no body talk about it because the car owner like show of and the mechanic can make more money. do you think Japanese car have those crazy problem? No! I have a Mercedes too, anytime I bring it to service, no one know how to repair except the very common problem, and no one will tell you the true, and paid $1000, because the Mechanical worker doesn't know Electronics, the Electronics worker doesn't know Software the Software worker doesn't know Mechanical and Electronics. Right now, all the car repair tech are cheater.

    Imagine doing all of this on a E220CDI and its still in 2nd gear with turbine speed sensor fault code but nothing on the dash, then you realise that 2 injectors are not original and are from a later production car. You then i realised that the catalictic converter is original too adn when diesel injecors fail they spit out loads of fuel and it creates smoke and then it clogs up the cat. I cut that sucker off and beleave it or not car drives normaly.

    I have 2003 ML320 Sport 143K Miles on it, but my friend I tiered ESP key also it comes-up but still in Limp Mode, also the Conductor Plate issue for Mercedes on OBDII code is P0715. My car had the same problem leaking fluid tru the Transmission connector to TCM module-- I cant believe such a stupid so called German design liquid going upward against Newton's law of universal Gravitation.. LOL the insulation material sucks the OIL and releases it in the TCM .. what the F.. really!
    Anyhow the code was P0715 which means "Speed Sensor Magnets" on Conductor plate failed, I changed the plate, basically went thru hell in my small garage with limited space and tools and finally did it.. But got real pissed that still was in Limp Mode,,. To begin with I first changed Connector to New One to the Transmission where the Tr-OIL Leak starts, then I cleaned the TCM, tried it still in Limp Mode. Changed TCM with the one bought from Junk-yard but it gave me an error and Limp Mode again plus OBDII said the "Gear Ratio Error" which programmed in junkyard TCM so it had different gear ratio. BTW: I electrically measured and checked the Transmission Oil and it IS NOT a Conductive Liquid OIL which means it does not damage the TCM electronically, to make sure I cleaned and tried my original TCM and worked fine but still in Limp Mode. I bought the Brand New Original "Mercedes ML320 Conductor Plate" for $220 from NAPA store. Anyone can help out there?

    Hey Luke, hope you’re still active here. I have the same symptoms as you minus the same engine code and was stuck in limp mode. First I had the P0709 code I believe which was for the input sensor but when I went to change the tcm, it fixed the issue for an hour before going back into limp mode with a different code telling me the pulsating solenoid was bad. So I replaced the conductor plate and all my solenoids to no avail. Still in limp mode. Could it be my tcm again?

    HI Luke
    I have a Mercedes C320 and it was in mint condition. My partner sold it to me to keep it in the family. I had it for about 6 months and it purred. When the indicator came on to service the car I went to a local mechanic and after it also just purred. He said I had an oil leak and did not have enough time to fix that so I had to make another appointment and came back 2 weeks later. As soon as I left my car has been shunting and even has stalled. I went back to him and he said it was not the transmission and said it was idling low. So he raised the revs by not much and while we took it for a drive for me to show him the problem it did shunt and shudder while he was there. It does not do it all the time but mainly when breaking on a hill or leaving the stop lights etc.
    It still was shunting so I went to a transmission mechanic and he told me that it came up with this P2602 code. How can that happen after just an oil repair???
    Do you have any advice? Much appreciated Jan

      J M I If I remember correctly the resistance should be 2.5-6.5 ohms. You can check individually if you have them out or through the round plug. You can also apply 12 v to test operation. I found information here:

    When you opened the conductor plate and replaced it. You had to remove the solenoids, did you use the multimeter to check the voltage of each solenoids. That's the way to check the solenoids before you put back the conductor plate.

    • @lukec4745
      @lukec4745  6 лет назад +6

      AmZ yes, checked the voltage and resistance and they were within spec. I also reinstalled the old solenoids with a new conductor plate and problem persisted. It’s not until I changed the solenoids with the junkyard ones that the problem went away.

  • @Johnathan_Waters
    @Johnathan_Waters 5 лет назад +3

    What is said in this video is NOT CORRECT!! I've had this issue several times, and the problem here is that his scan tool (I have the SAME one) is not good enough to reset the codes & hard limp condition. You need a "better" tool, like a Snap-On modis, or a STAR C3 (and up) multiplexer system, etc. The Launch Creader is OK for some things, but this is not one of them.
    As for the reason why his limp mode resolved on it's own, well, I dont know...I think he simply just got lucky. Remember we are dealing with Y2K Era electronics, and they weren't all that sophisticated compared to those found on vehicles today. They sometimes (especially being 20+ years old now) get squirrelly and do weird things. Regards.

      Johnathan Waters well if you can’t offer the solution then what is the sense of commenting. The car went to Mercedes after I put in the new conductor plate because I was told I need a “special” computer to reset the tcm. That is nonsense, the tcm will reset itself when the issue is resolved. The only transmissions that need the tcm flash are the newer 722.9.

    I’m driving an X156, a 722.9 automatic transmission box. I had a transmission malfunction notice on my instrumental cluster at 160000km. Car was still driving fine. I took it in for a transmission service. They changed the oil, filters and the gasket. Car came back still driving fine but the notification still comes up every now and then. Recently it triggered an engine light and when diagnosed it has no codes. I took the car back to the dealership & now they want to replace my conductor plate. The part is very expensive, my car is not on limp mode, gears shift fine as they supposed to I’m just irritated by the notification. Any idea what could be the cause? Please assist.

It's going to the mechanic tomorrow so we'll see. I parked it immediately and didn't restart it so I'm hoping like hell I didn't blow the engine. The car was from Florida and I'm in Maine. It was 17 degrees when all of this happened. I opened the hood and you could see spray on the engine cover. Care to speculate? Thanks

    I also replaced the conductor plate along with the electrical connector, fluid, filter, gasket. And it worked initially for about 30mins. Then it went back to limp mode , but also it would no longer accelerate (in drive or reverse) as if it was stuck in neutral. The solenoids looked pitted when I dropped the valve body but only tested resistance and they checked out fine. I’m thinking solenoids need to be changed , but do you think it could be something else as well? Given that when it’s cold, it’ll shift but once it warms up , it will not accelerate in drive or reverse .

      Your mechanic may be right but You can try searching your symptom online as it’s possible one of the springs in the valve body is broken, it’s also a common issue. There are kits you can install to tighten that up, they are very inexpensive and worth a try before purchasing a pricey valve body.

    Luke C, I found this video to be extremely helpful. I just bought yesterday a USA 1998 C280. It is stuck in first gear. Car shows 230,000 miles on the odometer. When you go from Park into Reverse, or Park into Drive there is a very strong lurch. The car jolts into gear. It will not shift out of first in Drive or if I shift the automatic trans manually. The seller (not very car intelligent) gave me a new trans. dipstick, and the fluid measures a little bit low, but seems like clean fluid. I will guess I need a new Conductor Plate and Solenoids, but I don't know. Online there are many refurbished solenoids available. I wonder if they are reliable? Any suggestions on where I should start, as I feel badly that it took you a month to solve yours. Thanks for your great video, which is very helpful.

    • @lukec4745
      @lukec4745  6 лет назад +1

      Jon Randall scan it first. Also check the TCM module under the passenger footrest for transmission fluid contamination. If there is fluid in the connectors you can try cleaning the harness and installing a new connector on the transmission, cheap fix. Google 722.6 transmission connector.

    • @jonrandall5490
      @jonrandall5490 6 лет назад +2

      Hi Luke. Thanks for your reply. The scan reveals code P0715 ( Input / Turbine Speed Sensor A circuit ). This input speed sensor is built into the Trans. Conductor Plate which I have just replaced with the OE German Conductor Plate. I, of course, replaced the Connector too, and noted that the wiring had trans. fluid on the harness. This lead me into the passenger foot kick panel, and I removed the Trans. Control module, which had small fluid on the wiring going into the connections, and into the TCM itself. I opened the TCM carefully, and other than a little bit of fluid inside near the connectors, it appeared in good shape. My car is stuck in first or second gear, and won't shift into other gears. I can reach 30 or 35 but the tach is at 4500 approx. I am not sure if this is "Limp Mode" or not. I am guessing that I need to have my TCM rebuilt or replaced, or Conductor Plate solenoids are actually bad. However, one parts place thinks maybe the Input Speed Sensor Code P0715 is in German terms ( = shift micro switch ), which in English is Neutral Safety Switch.

      Dimitriy Perchik I have a GL450 and I’ve got the 722.9 transmission. I know it’s in first because of the speed and rpms that it will top out at. I’m pretty sure it’s my conductor plate that’s bad. More specifically the speed sensor. Could be a solenoid issue as well. What is the top speed you can do with limp mode on? If you have tried to drive it like that...
      If you had a scanner simular to Icarsoft MB 2 or Icarsoft MB V2, you could go in the TCM and clear the code for the limp mode and drive it until the limp will comes back.
      My understanding with these transmissions is, base on my experience with them, if you are able to clear the codes and drive for a little while, it means that the problem is more likely electric, but if you try to clear the codes and they don't clear or do anything, and you are not able to drive after clearing/resetting, it means that the problem is more likely mechanical. For example, a solenoid can get the right voltage and have the right resistance, but if it doesn't open and close (mechanical process) when needed, your transmission will not operate properly.
      You are right about NAG 2 7 speed transmission. The TCM is part of the conductors plate and it does require SCN (Security Code Number) coding with the immobilizer, just like the ignition switch, key, steering lock and instrument cluster. The cheapest option for you is to fix/refurbish the original that you have.
      You can buy a used one, IF you can find someone to make the conductors plate virgin and after personalize (SCN Coding) it to your vehicle. The Chinese copy of AVDI, the FVDI system is able to make the plate virgin, but to personalize it to your vehicle, it will require a DAS Xentry diagnostic system or Vediamo, or Autell system that can do SCN coding, or AVDI.
