In my opinion, in many Master stories the most interesting thing the Master does is turn out to be the Master. We start with a pseudonym, disguise, regeneration or sudden appearance. After that... the script often has nowhere for the Master to go.
The Master has been used a lot the past 10 years so its nice to hear this, would be nice to see Omega back given RTD brought the Toy Maker back for the 60th. Maybe Omega being the one he didn't dare face
I love the Master, but it’s good to take breaks. It caused me some whiplash for Missy’s death to happen at the end of series 10, then to come back in early season 12. I like Sacha Dhawan a lot, but I felt that the character needed a rest. I knew that Missy’s death wouldn’t last forever, but just over a year was too quick, in my opinion, especially since Missy and Dhawan master were used so heavily in their prospective seasons. No knocks against either actor, it’s just a little too much.
When the Master does come back I hope it's still Sacha Dhawan, he's so good and I'd love him to be a Master for multiple Doctors! I definitely think RTD has at least some plans for the character considering the tooth thing though I can see that being a long-term thing that we don't see the resolution of for a few more years.
The Master shouldn’t be retired forever, just maybe rested for a few years like 11th Doctor era. Perhaps it’s time to bring back The Valeyard, Romans or The Rani
We need like the valeyard, meddling monk, omega, and other old timelorda back. Most of them were only used very few times ALSO I want the master to have a break, BUT rtd is famous for lying about things, for example he said he would never use the master in his first tenure
I feel like, if the Master ever does return, then they should do a big finish and bring in someone prior like Jeffrey Beavers, Eric Roberts, Derek Jacobi or Alex Macqueen. They are so much more interesting in the audios, actually doing new things (and when their not it's written specifically as an in universe character flaw that actually pushes the plot). It's a shame the character isn't treated as well in the main show. You could also explore what happens to the Luminat after Missy, and what led them to become the Dwann Master if they wanted to. That being said, we need the return of other timelord villians. The Word Lord and the Eleven would be really fresh to see finally on screen. Brax could be a direction to go in after the timeless child, and then there's the obvious ones like Rassilon, Omega, Morbius, the Monk/Nun, the Rani, Magnus, Drax or the Valeyard. Maybe even someone new.
I love the concept of the eleven. The character has a great introduction but then went a bit downhill and started being overused but the concept is great. I would love the war master to return. I did think it would maybe ruin the character but when you listen to the audios, Derek Jacobi is just so great. I think he's my favourite new who master. The problem with new who is they keep doing the same master, one that is over the top. It would be nice to get the classic style Delgado style master, one that is more the doctors opposite. I think Macqueen is also a good mix of the two, playful on the surface but with a dark venomous side underneath
@VinluvAntonHandesbukia I do think the actors cast for all four masters (well, five if you count the kid looking into the Untempered Schism) have been top flight. What a treat to have an episode with Derek Jacobi. My personal favorite had to be Missy. Early on I hear Rani talk...what a treat when she turned into such a perfect foil for Capaldi's Doctor. And she worked so well with Clara! Truly a gift.
I am glad the master/missy is getting a break, I love the master but hes been used too much. 100% need a load of new monsters and villains and maybe in a few seasons bring him back for an epic episode.
I don't mind a break from the master but I don't care what anyone says when the master returns it needs to be Sacha or have two masters at the same time and have Sacha with a new incarnation
First RTD era, it made sense to bring back Daleks, then Cybermen, then The Master, then Davros, as the show had been off-air for such a long time. After RTD1, they all (with the exception of Davros) got re-used far too often with increasingly diminishing results, so I'm more than happy to see none of them return, not just this year, but for a good few more. Time to create new villains that can be returned to now and then, otherwise the show is simply saying that in almost twenty years they've been unable to produce a single new villain to eclipse those from classic who.
I definitely think we're getting Daleks this season, I do believe they are in the finale though the season is mostly new villains which is great! But I definitely think we'll be seeing the Daleks back, and hopefully with a redesign!
The Master should have been permanently killed off in Series 3's Last of the Time Lords. Maybe it's time for The Master to be retired and have The Doctor fight a more original new villain. I would have liked to have seen The Rani return with Liz May Brice cast in the role.
Matt Smith might be my fave Doctor....but i dare say i adore it too his era because they didnt rely on classic monsters to be THE BIG THREAT like Daleks were utilised and Cybermen WITHIN threads stories and were smaller scale compared to brand new creations too i mean we had loads of new threats his era which is ehy Missy was so refreshing we had 4 years with no Master then BOOM! Dhawan i feel very much did so so well now i feel i agree its veen done but also Cybermen and Daleks are done too .....
Didn’t he say this a while ago? That he doesn’t have any foreseeable plans for the master and the tooth was just a setup for later, maybe even the next showrunner.
@@quinncrook6058 Yeah he explicitly lied in his first run that he wasn't ever going to use the Master....then he appears in series 3 and the End of Time.

I don’t believe him. If he is resting them, then why make such a big deal about them being trapped in the Toymaker’s tooth, and having someone collect it at the end of the episode. I think this is a classic RTD misdirection. Actually, was fully expecting a spinoff series about the Master, as part of the Whoniverse.
I agree with you, the master was good but now, like the Daleks and Cybermen there needs to be new villains. Here's hoping the new season/series will be more inventive. Not happy about the fantasy aspect, the gods etc. What's wrong with science fiction?
I'm hoping for the fresh re-start of this whole era. A rebooted universe, with the Doctor as the biggest constant, new challenges to face, and familiar ones retired or rested. Allow in a new generation of fans without decades of lore. Integrate the creatures from the classic series, and Nu-who once the doctor is properly established. While this is a previous show-runner, I'll be disappointed if he doesn't refresh the whole who-niverse to allow a level playing field for new enemies to find a place beside the classics without fear or prejudice.... I'm quite excited, and cautiously hopeful.
Good, I've mostly thought of The Master as a pantomime villain that's wheeled on when they've needed a bit of mad evil. Give it a couple of decades, more if the last iteration is to come back...too amateurish.
Absolutely agree the Master needs resting and thank goodness Jinx Monsoon isn't playing a version of them: really couldn't cope with the character grurning and hamming it up, as evidenced in the trailer shots.
I just think he should have ditched the master reference in the giggle tbh lol, like it was only for the shock of it like "gasp, lady pick up tooth that toymaker said was master" and now if the master ever appears again whoever's writing it is gonna have to worry about the implications that come from that.
If the master os being rested, why have the plot indocating he was turned into the toy masters gold tooth, which got picked up at the emd of Ncuti Gatwa first showing. Kind of parked is vague
In an ideal world I would like the daleks, the master & the cybermen should all be rested. There are plenty of other classic villains that could be revisited.
Same, I feel they have now overused the master as a excuse for not bringing back other old time lord like the rani or romana or even the monk it has alway been the master and honesty I pretty sick of it 😃👍.
The character needs a break for sure but disagree there’s not much you can say with the character, you pretty much have to have the same opinion on the doctor himself in that case. Russell can do a interesting stuff with him whenever he eventually comes back
I’m always for giving a few year breaks of the most used villains to allow someone new to tackle them from a fresh perspective or giving (the current showrunner) Davies time to re-think them. I appreciate the Tom Baker Years a great deal where we only get a couple Dalek stories and a couple Master stories over seven years. More recently the Matt Smith years gave us a bit of a break from the same old villains. I think it is important to refresh ideas and to give the space and time to do that. The other big news of the week is Gatwa hinted that he is planning on sticking around for at least a third season. I think it is very possible given that he will get a bit of a break to do something else between Season 2 and 3 that he might actually break the mold and do four seasons. Given the shorter episodes totals and the way production is handling things (going quickly into production from season 1 into 2 and perhaps doing the same with 3 and 4) four seems very doable. If that is the case then bringing back the Master towards the end of his fourth season would probably make sense.

I'm pretty happy about this. I think Sacha Dhawan did a great job as the Master, but after the redemption arc in Missy, bringing the Mister back was a big mistake. I don't think we should permanently retire the Master, but I'm thinking it should be a very good long time before we bring them back.
