In Family Reunion, Mikey and JJ first met each other when they were adults. So for them to know each before then when they were children would be unethical to the lore. JJ probably lives with his parents because the bunker doesn't have a lot of houses, and the parents being regular adults and not old is probably just a mistake, either that or JJ is just a young adult. Also, even as an adult/in other videos Mikey still has his oblivious and naive personality.

This is just so surreal to me. The way grief is presented and handled throughout this is remarkably more realistic and hard-bearing than Maizen has ever done in the past, especially JJ’s reactions to his loved ones and friends dying and the warped coping mechanisms he develops in response to it. Even though it’s not confirmed, I firmly believe that JJ’s delusional idea that just a handful of people with diamond swords would be enough to defeat a species that had wiped out the *entirety* of the human population besides them, was a result of JJ developing absent grief in response to his mother’s death. Think about it. Any Maizen fan of a while knows that JJ is a remarkably smart and intelligent character, and at one point, (15:48) JJ admitted outright to Mikey that there are simply so many killer clowns, that even if they defeated some, more would just fill their place. And additionally, that they barely know anything else about killer clowns in general. Yet despite JJ acknowledging this, he still decides to send a bare minimum of ten people with puny diamond armor and swords out into a deadly, seemingly unbeatable assassin-plagued area with the nearly laughable idea that they’ll somehow win with a small year’s worth of hitting dummies. The same person who builds outrageous and overbearing security measures, explosive last resorts, and bases to protect against singular monsters that aren’t nearly as strong as killer clowns, is suddenly so weak-minded when it comes to fighting against a world-ending nemesis? It’s clear something is messing with his mind here. With that in mind, back to the mention of absent grief. It seems to me that in an attempt to force himself to forget about his mother’s death and the pain that comes with it, JJ decides to use the training as a way to give himself a purpose, to make himself feel like he’s doing something important and helping other people, like what he failed to do when his mom was killed. But even then, because of the unhealthy way he chooses to cope by forgetting, it messes with his mind and ends up causing him to make rather stupid and reckless decisions. But revenge quests are often like that, aren’t they? This is why this is one of my favorite Maizen movies of all time. It just simply strikes me as more realistic than the others, and that will continue to be my opinion on it, unless somehow Maizen comes up with something more brilliant. I can’t believe they produced this absolute BANGER and emotional rollercoaster of a movie and then just went right back to making noob vs pro build challenges after this. Like??
