    This video shows the steps to completely remove the instrument cluster module from an Infiniti G37. In this case my backlight LEDs were flaking out so I needed to remove the module to get to them. Ultimately I removed all 36 backlight LEDs and replaced them with brighter versions.

    I got the LEDs from Digikey. They are part #160-1766-1-ND, but are now obsolete. I will say that these are TOO bright as they now make the center display look dim... I would now suggest trying part #160-2044-1-ND as these are similar package, but lower brightness. At least one person said they used these and they liked the result. These only have a single terminal on each end (vs. two) but you can simply solder the single contact on the LED to the two contacts on the PCB with no problem.
    If those are unavailable, I found a slightly less bright (1100 vs. 1400lm) version on ebay here: ebay.us/o4p23L
    These links are Amazon Associate affiliated which means that without costing you a dime, I get a few dimes when you use these links. Thanks so much for the support!

    You do not have to take the steering wheel off you can simply turn it to the left to remove the right screw and to the right to remove the left screw.That will save time and you do not have to remove the steering wheel or airbag.Otherwise this is by far the best video I e seen on how to do this.

    Excellent video! Great explanation of an R&R tear-down for the gauge cluster. Easy to understand and follow. And on the production side, fantastic camera placement at good angles for optimal visual demonstration. Quality audio as well. Well edited (which we really know takes the most time for a project). I did this on my 2008 Infiniti G35. These video were very helpful for doing it on my own car. I found that there were two bolts in your video that were not in my car. Also, my father and I found that you didn't have to take the wheel off and we could just roll the cluster out, although it was a tight fit. We used the bulbs recommended in the second video and there are a little brighter then the original, but were not distracting. I also put these in my clock because they were dead in there too. I did this around memorial day and it took two days but we were working on and off.
    Tl Dr, these videos are a pretty good example on how to do this and makes your dash look so much better. Thank you Dan.

      Also, if your clicker/ buzzer for the turn signal and hazards doesn't work, nows the time to fix it, it's in the back of the cluster. Mine worked intermittently because there was corrosion on it. A little clean and that make it work all the time.

    • @DansWay
      @DansWay  2 года назад

      Interesting. I'm not sure if the light is due to the change in bulb, or the more advanced tracking motors in the assembly not being present anymore. If you just swapped out the bulbs, it is possible the lower power draw is triggering the alert. Dismantling the display to remove the LED is a lot of work for sure. You could also put black vinyl tape over the AFS light itself, but that still would require removing the clear cover. Wish I had a better answer for you!

    I have all these same issues with my 2008 g35 sedan. The lights in the instrument cluster flicker on and off, specifically in the tachometer display just like this one. It's only small sections, like between 3,000 and 5,000 rpm. The analog clock in the head unit does the same thing. I also have that peeling issue on the steering wheel and on the trim pieces in the door panel..run your finger nail over it and the stuff peels off like candle wax. I definitely want to restore some of these things and get it looking like new again.

    • @DansWay
      @DansWay  5 лет назад +1

      Hey, I had no problem totally scraping all the paint off the steering wheel trim piece. I then primed and painted it with 'hammered' look paint which recreated the textured look. It looks fantastic to me. I think I over-sprayed the hammered paint with flat black as a top coat to match.

      It kinda looks like Plasti dip paint on the door trim where the switches are. I actually thought the previous owner painted them. I took a rag and scrubbed it all off becuse it looked like shit. At some point I’m gonna paint them. Not sure what color yet. I did see they have that carbon fiber stickers/wrap kit for the wooden trim panels online. The kit comes with all of them and is already cut to for them perfectly.

    Hi! Thanks for the great video! I would like to ask since you removed all of the clusters and panel are you able to tell me where the flasher/blinker relay is located or is it imbedded in the cluster?

    • @DansWay
      @DansWay  5 лет назад

      icaughtu1234 I’m not sure. It could be in the fuse box in the engine bay. Anyone else know?

    • @icaughtu1234
      @icaughtu1234 5 лет назад

      The clicking from the relay are under the cluster when using the turn signal. I'm trying to replace it due to adding led bulbs all around and I didn't want to use ohm resister

    • @DansWay
      @DansWay  5 лет назад

      From my memory, the click you hear is a buzzer, not the relay itself. The rapid flash is the way the system indicates that it thinks the bulb is dead because it isn’t seeing enough current being drawn. The resistor is the easy way to fool the system into thinking the bulb is still connected properly.

The only thing that works are the power seats and the steering wheel adjustment. Do you have any idea what is going on? I checked all the fuses, including the fusible link to battery. I've heard of guys doing exactly this. The key difference would be the mileage of the car which is located on a memory chip on the cluster. You could consider changing out just the display module that has the LEDs built into it... Not sure if that works as simply as it sounds.

      Hello Dan ! I've got everything apart and the 2044 p/n here and ready to replace. I thought there were qty 36 but it looks like there are more if you include all of the white (similar body color) leds in the center. I assume most in the center are for trouble/service lights only and therefore should not burn out due to little use? I just counted again and see there is a total of qty 68 white ones. I also realize there are different options on each car. I count 12 on tack, 12 on speedometer. 5 on temp, 5 on fuel, 10 inside tack, 14 inside speedometer and then 10 on top between tack and speedometer? I guess I will match the led pattern with my overlay and replace all except the warning lights. I'll also replace the ones that are to light each needle ? Am thoughts or recommendations ?

    Hey dan I have a question about my 2008 G37. My red LCD screen that shows the mileage, the gear I’m in, and the MPG and all that good stuff seems to be going out as in the screen is half working and glitching. I called my local infinity dealer and they said I’d have to replace my cluster and they’d do it but I DO NOT have the kind of money that they want me to pay as of right now. I got college and other stuff to pay for. I asked them if I could buy one off of eBay or something and they told me that they would have to order it because if I order one the miles would not match the miles in my car. If I order a new cluster I can replace it myself. I just need to know if you know what’s wrong or if the miles will carry over. Thank you.

    • @DansWay
      @DansWay  5 лет назад +1

      Giovanni Stewart I _think_ the mileage info is located in a chip that is soldered to the main-board and that the display is a dumb removable module. I can’t confirm this however. I would contact one of the on-line guys who resell these clusters to see if swapping out the display separate from the cluster keeps the mileage the same.
      Otherwise you can just order a replacement part from the on-line guys that advertise on eBay and they can duplicate the mileage. Should be less than $200 if you do the replacement yourself.

      You could have a service update the mileage on the 2012 cluster to match 07 cluster. You could change the bezel and needles on the 07, but the center will still be red. Imteyaz Yousuf the full service manuals are available online. I would search for ‘G37 service manual’ then search for the model years you are interested in. Another approach would be to talk to the vendors on eBay that are selling the clusters that offer programming service for the mileage as part of the price. They are likely to know about switching around the model years. Let us know what you find!
