Western societies are very hard on mothers: isolating, with very little help. It's crazy to expect one woman to look after three kids under five 24 hours a day. The sleep deprivation alone is horrendous. So-called primitive societies know that it really does take a village to raise a child, or at least a whole lot of friends and relatives to give the mother a break.
Try being a single mom. The Supreme Court told my husband he had to pay $10 a month child support and every cheque bounced. I worked a full-time job and two part-time jobs just to make it every month. I wouldn’t want to be a single mom now trying to make it with what the price of rent and groceries are.
People should not have children that they cannot afford. If you're single and pregnant, make plans to place your child for adoption. And in no case should anyone have more than two children. The biggest problem that our planet faces is over-population. We are running out of clean water and clean air, and trees to produce oxygen. Without enough oxygen content in our air, all animals will die, including humans. The decision to have a third child, is extremely selfish, and should be illegal.

That young Indian dr was so lovely to that mum. What a great way to be with someone when they are facing such horror. I am sure his mum must be very proud of him. I know I would be. He must have been brought up to respect everyone, well done.
I was thinking that same thing. How respectful of the doctor to get down to her level and speak to her. A doctor standing over you,feels like a disconnect. Talking at you,instead of to you.

Dr's in the UK and NZ get a hard time if they think they are above everyone else. The nurses would put them in their place and their bosses won't tolerate it. I had a consultant (head dr) once who told his juniors when they started, "There are several hundred years of experience within the nursing staff, when you are working with them the collective experience is several decades, you listen to them always. They know what they are doing."
Looks like you have crappy hospitals! My main hospital I go to is SO amazing and they’ll get you anything. Warmed blankets, pillows, ice water, literally anything.

The treatment I have received in the public health system here in Australia has been over and above exceptional. Yes waiting times can be a pain, but once through those doors excellence and compassion reigns. Queensland Health, Toowoomba.
I have been binging this series over the past couple of days. And the biggest takeaway that I have from this, is that I can't believe how much doctors over there actually care about their patients. In the US, you would not find this level of compassion and just pure humanity. Doctors here, especially ER doctors, are so condescending and rude and act like all you do is waste their time is there time, as if they aren't on the clock to help you. They don't even bother to actually listen to you, and if they do, half the time they don't believe whatever you say anyway because there's no way that we could possibly know anything going on in our own bodies without a medical degree 🙄
I was T-boned in an accident. A car hit mine in the driver's door and flipped my Jeep. In the emergency room, I barely saw the doctor. He came in and rocked his knuckles on my chest and I screamed. He said I was alert and walked out. It hurt to breathe or move my torso. A week later I saw my G.P. and he caught that I had fractured my sternum. The doctor in the ER was too busy to do a full exam and ignored my pain and anything I said. I now have a ridge in my sternum because it didn't heal correctly. I will never go back to that ER if I can help it.
I end up spending a lot of the time in the hospital in ER. I live in the US I have been blessed to have many many doctors and nurses who are gentle compassionate kind and willing to listen and look and save my life at least twice.
@@anastasiarose9003 well your experience seems to be rare. I live in the US and I'm in and out of doctors, specialists and ERs all the time. They treat me less than human and honestly don't seem to care if I live or die. They are rude, don't take me seriously, and have caused more issues than they have fixed.
The mom being so honest and translucent about her addiction and how it affected her was so inspiring and her getting the help. I hope All the best for the family and I'm very glad nothing worse happened to him
Jacob's Mom probably had postpartum depression after having 3 children in 5 years and didn't realize it so she used wine to help her cope...glad she's in recovery.
i think that it’s admirable that the Mom realized that alcohol caused her to exist and not to live, and she trying to pass those lessons on to her children…..Jackson is so brave an$ i love his hat!
I have noticed that in England snd Australia, at least, people can touch each other in reassurance and caring manners. It is such a nice change from the US where a touch could result in “harassment “ accusations. 😊
😢I had 3 babies under 5,was a RN, came from an addictive family whether it was drugs or alcohol..but it was only social on the weekends...but thank God I do not have an addictive personality...I had lots of energy always,did not know what it was like to not going 200 mi.a hour through the day..worked 2 jobs,etc...loved it.Then I developed lupus,fibromyalgia,arthritis,in high school I was a cheerleader,in the band,every club around...all 3 of my kids r different..more like their dad,laced back etc...I am glad I didn't turn to drinking or drugs and neither has it been passed to my babies,even though their dad's Father also was an alcoholic..
I admire the mother discussing her alcoholism. To just look at her, I’d never have imagined that. But alcoholism doesn’t discriminate 🥴. I’m happy for her and her family that she realized she had a problem and worked on it
It works all over Europe and in NZ, Aus and Canada. We all pay a part of our income into a national scheme to fund it all. I just can't get my head around people dying because of lack of health care in the US or going bankrupt. It's immoral.
If you want to wait many, many hours sitting in A & E’s… or have to wait months and months to get treatment for cancer ( why do you think so many Canadians come to the U.S. for treatment? To live) Having to sit in an ER for a minor issue because they don’t have private Dr’s like we do here. Or they can pay a lot to have one. Our medical system is not perfect by any means but compared to socialized medicine… we have the absolute best.
Poor little boy. I am the same way with blood draw. I can watch it happen to someone else. However, I have passed out more than once if I see it happen to me. Always look away Jackson.
Sadly, as a medical professional, if somebody admits to drinking three drinks, we always double it, because nobody will honestly admit how much they’ve had to drink or how many drugs they’ve ingested. Yes, there probably are some people who are honest but in life sadly the many pay for the actions of a few. Besides honestly… I would rather be in pain than accidentally given way too much medicine.
I don't drink but I do use cannabis (legal recreational), and I was very careful in calculating the amount of use when I was filling out new patient history when I changed providers recently. I want them to be as informed as possible when they are making medication decisions for me.
I’m almost 64 and have been dry for just over 5 years. I got a DUII and it was a really good wake-up. I come from a very dysfunctional alcoholic family. Many of my family members are alcoholics. I don’t want to die like my grandma and father did at the age of 66. I still crave alcohol but I will never drink again. I have no cut off point, so I drank till it was all gone, or I went to sleep. I now don’t have to apologize for things that I said and did that I don’t remember. My life is so much better. I’m so thankful for having a loving supportive husband who decided to not drink, so that he could support me.
Love this program but why the hell don't people say that the DRIVER drove into a wall instead of saying the car drove into the wall. The message will never get through until the news readers say the truth - the driver was speeding or drunk and drove off the road!!!!!
I switched from 60 years of coffee to tea with organic grass fed half and half, which is what I used in my coffee, it’s ok. It’s a lot faster than making French press, and less caffeine. Still want my coffee though, lol…
Rest in peace, Joan. My friends Mom was sent to the country too. She was from London too. Mr. Dalton stayed and dug fox holes and did stuff until after the war when Mrs Dalton came home. She also got the same treatment as Joan did. She only had one doll with her. Her and Mrs. Dalton told me all the good and bad stories. She passed away with 56 years of marriage. Mr. Dalton went not that long after. I’ve also been sober since 7/25/98. I understood everything she said about the struggle. Get well kid. No more booze. Love from Las Vegas.

Like people who opt to consume alcohol anywhere in the world and mj where it's LEGAL, either do it at home and not drive for a minimum of twelve hours after your last partaking episode while if you're going to partake outside of the house- get a fucking safe ride home from someone who has not partaken in your activities...... 🤦♀️
That’s one thing I’m glad about being a type one diabetic for 53 years now, is that I didn’t like the way alcohol made me feel. Even after one drink when I would feel the alcohol working in me it felt like I was having a diabetic Lo blood sugar, and I hate how they feel. I very very seldom drink. And I don’t smoke. I feel bad when people get addicted to anything, not being able to walk away from it. Like with smoking, to think that that one cigarette has control over you or that one drink has control over you, it’s incredible. That cigarette you could step on and crush, that drink you could pour it down the sink. For those to have control over you to the point that you’re shaking because you need it, is just so sad. I’m glad that the boy realized that he was on the path to becoming what his mom was, an alcoholic. It was a very good lesson for him to learn from and thank goodness he walked away without any real serious injuries. I’m so happy for his mom that she went and received help with her drinking problem. She’s a very humble woman to admit to the public that she had a problem and that she had to go for help. Nothing is wrong with asking for help when needed. I look up to people like her because she’s very strong to have quit drinking. I’m so impressed by that little boy’s manners and just how well he dealt with what he was going through. I’m glad he responded to the antibiotics very well. Now his poor dad could go home and have a good nights sleep in his bed.😃 My condolences to the family that lost their mom and grandma. Like the daughter said, she knows her mom couldn’t live forever.🥺
A thought - in the Relatives' Waiting Rooms, there should be easy chairs that recline, dim lights and soft music. That way people can sit and relax as they await word of their loved ones.
I heard that if one person is an alcoholic one parent is an alcoholic then you have 50% chance of being an alcoholic too if you’re their child and 90% chance of being an alcoholic if both of your parents are alcoholics
Regardless of the substance or behaviour.....addiction is an attempt to ease emotional pain.....Address those issues...(often very difficult)...and it goes a long way to solving that problem.
Bleh. I knew that ending was coming, but it still sucked. At first I didn't like Joan, but then you hear what she went through, and you saw the genuine love the family had for each other, and you saw that there was a sense of humor under that gruff exterior, her passing hit hard.
The children that get themselves in these positions should have to see the pain they put their parents through while they heal. I know that sounds rough but I've seen the devastating seen the poor parents. Pray they learned lessons

It's good that Jacob's mother has quit drinking. Now, she needs to quit smoking. Nicotrol products can be a great help, I had a great result with the Nicotrol Cartridge Inhaler System.
The lady that fell could have been my mommy.my mommy grew up not being shown love so even though she showed us 5 kids love in her own way it was daddy that taught us true love.
There is an aspect that can never be fixed, and that is the scars left on the children of alcoholics . She says “I am a bloody good mom” like past never existed. Both my parents were alcoholics, the damage they did to us took years of therapy and cutting them completely out of our lives.
Adult children of alcoholics can and do get better if they join Al-Anon. After 10+ years of sobriety, I find myself on both sides of the issue. My brother, a person I love more than anyone else on earth, is an alcoholic, as are two cousins. The best thing a loved one can do is cut off the drinker -- it's essential to keeping one's own sanity. Good on you for getting therapy and talking with others who have had similar experiences. I hope that you have found peace..
I have never drank alcoholic drinks in my life nor have I ever smoked in my 30 years of living but I have seen how it has affected some of my family members and friends not good a waste of money and life !
I have been looking for an episode of a young boy who had an accident where he lost one of his pinky fingers and didn't know it until much later. Does anyone know if the boy was able to have his finger saved?
The mother, although a problematic period in her life, she needs to call a spade where Jackson is concerned, wrong time for the gorgeous talk, the seriousness of that accident needs discussed in terms endangering others, if he doesn’t start taking responsibility for the privilege of having a license.
They are trying to show how alcoholism effects a whole family, how it starts, how it effects innocent bystanders. Mom is a recovering alcoholic, now the son is driving drunk and he may have hurt others. They are showing the cycle of alcoholism.
I went to the er super sick, in a lot of pain, sicker than a dog.... they accused me of being a drug seeker... tried to send me home for some stomach virus. Um I had sepsis and was knocking on deaths door. The united health care system is broken.
My dad was a very mean alcoholic. He beat my mom constantly. I hated him til the day he died. He did the same to his kids. He was awful. As a result of his alcoholism, it made me pre- disposed. I have attended Alanon for many years. I was actually able to forgive him . He has been gone since 1991
I think it's strange that the doctors and nurses say, " tummy" instead of stomach. In the US, we would only say tummy to a small child. Is it different in Great Britain?
I'm 61 and that's the way I'll be when my Grandkids are old enough ,I drink straight tequila but I drank some Rum when my daughter took me on vacation in the Bahamas and that got me a little drunk ,I've never drank rum before ,thought I didn't like it but that little sweet gal on the beach made me some good drinks lol
She’s replaced drinking with vaping! Vaping is a sure killer as well! I had 2 friends who died at young ages from vaping, as well as 3 who died in their 50’s from cigarettes! I miss all 5 friends and relatives!!! Everyone should stop smoking, vaping & drinking, Please! 🙏🙏🙏

Yup that never happens here ! Even the nurses never offer anything at all our medical system has no sense of hospitality.
I held my mom’s hand when she took her last breath as well. No matter the age, we always need and miss our moms. She died on February 14th.

Joan was a TOUGH fighter. Faced her health issues with dignity and strength. We can all take a page from her book.

Sadly, as a medical professional, if somebody admits to drinking three drinks, we always double it, because nobody will honestly admit how much they’ve had to drink or how many drugs they’ve ingested. Although I will say from the state of Jacob, I would tend to believe him that it was closer to three than six.

Yes, there probably are some people who are honest but in life sadly the many pay for the actions of a few. Besides honestly… I would rather be in pain than accidentally given way too much medicine.

I don't drink but I do use cannabis (legal recreational), and I was very careful in calculating the amount of use when I was filling out new patient history when I changed providers recently. I want them to be as informed as possible when they are making medication decisions for me.

I’m almost 64 and have been dry for just over 5 years. I got a DUII and it was a really good wake-up. I come from a very dysfunctional alcoholic family. Many of my family members are alcoholics. I don’t want to die like my grandma and father did at the age of 66. I still crave alcohol but I will never drink again. I have no cut off point, so I drank till it was all gone, or I went to sleep. I now don’t have to apologize for things that I said and did that I don’t remember. My life is so much better. I’m so thankful for having a loving supportive husband who decided to not drink, so that he could support me.
Love this program but why the hell don't people say that the DRIVER drove into a wall instead of saying the car drove into the wall.

I switched from 60 years of coffee to tea with organic grass fed half and half, which is what I used in my coffee, it’s ok. It’s a lot faster than making French press, and less caffeine. Still want my coffee though, lol…
Rest in peace, Joan. My friends Mom was sent to the country too. She was from London too. Mr. Dalton stayed and dug fox holes and did stuff until after the war when Mrs Dalton came home. She also got the same treatment as Joan did. She only had one doll with her. Her and Mrs. Dalton told me all the good and bad stories. She passed away with 56 years of marriage. Mr. Dalton went not that long after. I’ve also been sober since 7/25/98. I understood everything she said about the struggle. Get well kid. No more booze. Love from Las Vegas.

Like people who opt to consume alcohol anywhere in the world and mj where it's LEGAL, either do it at home and not drive for a minimum of twelve hours after your last partaking episode while if you're going to partake outside of the house- get a fucking safe ride home from someone who has not partaken in your activities...... 🤦♀️

That’s one thing I’m glad about being a type one diabetic for 53 years now, is that I didn’t like the way alcohol made me feel. Even after one drink when I would feel the alcohol working in me it felt like I was having a diabetic Lo blood sugar, and I hate how they feel. I very very seldom drink. And I don’t smoke. I feel bad when people get addicted to anything, not being able to walk away from it. Like with smoking, to think that that one cigarette has control over you or that one drink has control over you, it’s incredible. That cigarette you could step on and crush, that drink you could pour it down the sink. For those to have control over you to the point that you’re shaking because you need it, is just so sad.
I’m glad that the boy realized that he was on the path to becoming what his mom was, an alcoholic. It was a very good lesson for him to learn from and thank goodness he walked away without any real serious injuries. I’m so happy for his mom that she went and received help with her drinking problem. She’s a very humble woman to admit to the public that she had a problem and that she had to go for help. Nothing is wrong with asking for help when needed. I look up to people like her because she’s very strong to have quit drinking.
I’m so impressed by that little boy’s manners and just how well he dealt with what he was going through. I’m glad he responded to the antibiotics very well. Now his poor dad could go home and have a good nights sleep in his bed.😃

A thought - in the Relatives' Waiting Rooms, there should be easy chairs that recline, dim lights and soft music. That way people can sit and relax as they await word of their loved ones.
I heard that if one person is an alcoholic one parent is an alcoholic then you have 50% chance of being an alcoholic too if you’re their child and 90% chance of being an alcoholic if both of your parents are alcoholics
Regardless of the substance or behaviour.....addiction is an attempt to ease emotional pain.....Address those issues...(often very difficult)...and it goes a long way to solving that problem.

Bleh. I knew that ending was coming, but it still sucked. At first I didn't like Joan, but then you hear what she went through, and you saw the genuine love the family had for each other, and you saw that there was a sense of humor under that gruff exterior, her passing hit hard.

The children that get themselves in these positions should have to see the pain they put their parents through while they heal. I know that sounds rough but I've seen the devastating seen the poor parents. Pray they learned lessons

It's good that Jacob's mother has quit drinking. Now, she needs to quit smoking. Nicotrol products can be a great help, I had a great result with the Nicotrol Cartridge Inhaler System.
The lady that fell could have been my mommy.my mommy grew up not being shown love so even though she showed us 5 kids love in her own way it was daddy that taught us true love.

There is an aspect that can never be fixed, and that is the scars left on the children of alcoholics . She says “I am a bloody good mom” like past never existed. Both my parents were alcoholics, the damage they did to us took years of therapy and cutting them completely out of our lives.
Adult children of alcoholics can and do get better if they join Al-Anon. After 10+ years of sobriety, I find myself on both sides of the issue. My brother, a person I love more than anyone else on earth, is an alcoholic, as are two cousins. The best thing a loved one can do is cut off the drinker -- it's essential to keeping one's own sanity. Good on you for getting therapy and talking with others who have had similar experiences. I hope that you have found peace..

I find it strange how people have loved ones in hospital and the interviews end up all about themselves and their problems.
They are trying to show how alcoholism effects a whole family, how it starts, how it effects innocent bystanders. Mom is a recovering alcoholic, now the son is driving drunk and he may have hurt others. They are showing the cycle of alcoholism.

I went to the er super sick, in a lot of pain, sicker than a dog.... they accused me of being a drug seeker... tried to send me home for some stomach virus. Um I had sepsis and was knocking on deaths door. The united health care system is broken.
My dad was a very mean alcoholic. He beat my mom constantly. I hated him til the day he died. He did the same to his kids. He was awful. As a result of his alcoholism, it made me pre- disposed. I have attended Alanon for many years. I was actually able to forgive him . He has been gone since 1991
I should add, he got in alot of car wrecks and always injured my mother

I'm 61 and that's the way I'll be when my Grandkids are old enough ,I drink straight tequila but I drank some Rum when my daughter took me on vacation in the Bahamas and that got me a little drunk ,I've never drank rum before ,thought I didn't like it but that little sweet gal on the beach made me some good drinks lol
