High Score Challenge Rules Please head over to the Atari Network Discord to participate. Link is here: discord.gg/TYuYyGzHB6 There, effective November 14th, 2024 (11/14/2024) there will be three new forums for Atari High Scores. One for Asteroids, one for Dark Chambers, and one for Food Fight. There you can post your high score along with proof in the form of a screen shot. You can also record the gameplay in a video and you may want to in order to post over at Twin Galaxies. The more proof you have, the better off you are if there is a dispute. You can post as many scores as you want but please don't flood the forums with lots of low scores for no other reason than to bury others. We reserve the right to disqualify anybody who does so. Scores must be accomplished and posted in the correct discord threads between 11/14/2024 and 12/14/2024. Winners will then be announced in a separate video there after and prizes will be distributed. Prizes are in the form of an exclusive, 1 of 6 Atari Network Atari 7800 cartridge. The physical cartridge will be produced by OGHUGO and plans to have an etched label. The actual rom is the Atari Network Demo produced by Krull. The game and code on the rom of the cartridge belongs to Krull and is being used with his permission. All hard work for the rom was done by Krull and OGHUGO has agreed to create the physical cartridges. All rights to them! Thank you. Winner of the Asteroids High score will receive one cartridge, the winner of the Food Fight High Score will receive one cartridge, and the winner of the Dark Chambers High score will receive one cartridge. Each participant can only win a total of one cartridge and in a case where somebody posts several winning scores, we will except their highest score as the prize winning one and second place participants will be chosen for the other prizes. There is no cash equivalent for the prizes and I will ship them anywhere in the world, with myself eating the shipping costs. I can not and will not give alternative prizes so please make sure you want what we are giving away! These will work on actual 7800 consoles but have not been verified to work on 2600+ or 7800+ consoles yet. I hold the right to alter or change the contest and prizes as I see fit at anytime with little to no notice prior. But the most important part of the contest.... HAVE FUN!
I'll admit having grown up with home computers like the C64 that had many goal-based adventures and RPGs that I never really got into the high scores except to pop my 3-4 letter name into an arcade machine. I did chase after the Pac-Man cut scenes, Donkey Kong falling down, and beating all the stages in Necromancer by Synapse Software. But stick with me for a moment. That all said, I always loved games like Telengard and Temple of Apshai, and they really didn't have a goal except to collect treasures and make your character stronger, even while having - in the case of Temple of Apshai - rich room descriptions and detailed levels. It was just - I was there, and I did a thing. So in a way.... A High Score. 😊 Dark Chambers would be perfect for me! I will sign up but need to wait for my 7800+ to be delivered. I never owned a 7800, but already picked up some games in anticipation of playing!
I grew up with the Super Nintendo, and during the 16-bit generation the goal was already reaching the end game, and high scores were already forgotten. However, after I bought the Atari Flashback portable and then a real 2600 Jr., I discovered the joy of keeping playing the same game over and over just to beat my previous score. As a result, some 2600 games have a far better longevity than newer games, because they literally never end! Of course, some of them, like Pole Position or Pitfall 2, have a predetermined top score that you reach if you make absolutely no mistakes, but others give you the impression that you can improve foverer. I guess for many young people it takes effort to get into 2600 games, but once you acquire the right mindset, you find a treasure trove of fun
Im an 80s kid so I definitely know the thrill, but this is why I love getting achievements and trophies too, I love staying on top of my ranking amongst my friends and having as many total complete games or platinum trophies as possible just for the competition of it all
Great vid on a good point. Was super rewarding to get my two number one leaderboard spots on Berzerk & Caverns of Mars recharged on the VCS. It’s fun to watch that progression and that feeling of being so close and “just one more game”.

7800 is pretty well suited for highscore racing and speedrunning like the Commodore 64, and that's honestly cool!
@@Mohammed1000real agreed

Excellent video
@@BURRITO44 appreciate it
Good video as always. I especially like the part when you say Atari. Lol. HS Challenge sounds cool.

@@blackmesacake5361 great point. Achievements and trophies are like an evolution of the high score in a way. The same dopamine rush

Honestly, I really just don’t care about high scores and never have. It’s just never been a goal that appeals to me.
I'm in!
No Thanks. Not played those games yet.
