    This is great! Thanks for the fantastic review. I love how many value oriented guitars are out there, whether it be Monoprice, Harley Benton, Xaviere, etc., or whatever, the field is wide open. One thing I was amazed by is how much attention they paid to the neck. Not really any fret sprout; the neck was comfortable to play as it was. Mine started the same as your new one, but it is now purple with Fender tuners, MIM Fender tele pickups, and a traditional 3 barrel bridge. To me, it was fine as it was when I got it, but they really shine as a modding platform. Even if you buy it for just the neck and body, you're still coming in pretty inexpensively. Great work, and thanks for sharing!
    PS always good to see Yankee fans out there!

      Hi Simon and thank you for the post. Wow, your guitar sounds amazing. Those are some great mods. I agree there are many great valued guitars out there. You do not need to break the bank to have a great playing guitar. I love the 3 barrel bridge. Can I ask what brand you used and was installation easy? I would love to do that to mine as well. Thank you again for the post and sharing about your awesome guitar! Be well and rock on!

      @@LUKESTRONG4LIFE Hey! Sorry I didn't answer sooner- I used a Wilkinson licensed bridge that I got from Ebay. If you search Wilkinson vintage tele bridge, you'll see the one I mean. Make sure it's not coming from China- there'a a huge counterfeiting issue with Wilkinson pickups from China, so I assume other parts may be a problem. The 3 barrel (also make sure they are compensated brass saddles) bridge will fit exactly where the old bridge did. One cool thing is that this bridge allows you to do string through or top load. One FYI though is that I had to widen the holes where the strings come through. If you use a little painter's tape as a flag on the bit, it's an easy mod. I'm super happy with how it sounds and holds tune. Good luck!

    Helpful reviewing! So I went up a notch for the $199 Indio Retro Classic DLX. That is the one I would recommend. Ash body, excellent finish, authentic sound through my Fender practice amp. Best part: strung with D'Addarios and set up just right. Tuned it up and it had great low action/buzz-free. An excellent out of the boxer that I will use it with my students.

    You know, to be right out of the box and sounding that good, is impressive. Especially with some dirt from the Fender Blues setting, through that bridge pickup. Sounds very '70s bar band Rock to my ears.

    I have the blonde and the one you just demoed I put a Seymour Duncan quarter pound in the navy blue one. It sounds amazing. The blonde bridge pickup sounded good so i left it stock. I filed the headstock to make it look more like a tele the Frets were rough on both of them I had to sand them with a fine grit block to get the neck smooth but the weight on these are really nice. There heavy like a fender telecaster is. Great guitar for the price. I did not replace the tuners because they didn't feel jumpy they felt fine which is a big surprise. Well done Indio!!!

    The guitar Monoprice seems to have targeted for descriptive specs at the very least, is Fender's Player Series Telecaster. The Monoprice, like the Fender, doesn't have the Ashtray bridge and is the modern 6 saddle string thru fixed plate. The Players are $ 750 guitars, so if this guitar is close enough, as a sub $ 100 guitar, it's quite the bargain. As for the neck, the Fender is a modern C and 9.5 radius, which happens to be what the Monoprice is as well. Pickups, Fender has Alnico V, these are obviously ceramic. And like Squier does, they go Basswood body when Fender goes with Alder. The Monoprice is Basswood like a Squier Telecaster would be.
    The Rosewood Monoprice is a virtual dead ringer for a Indian Laurel Squier Bullet Telecaster. Indian Laurel is often referred to as Asian Rosewood. The Monoprice gives you the extra 22nd fret, while the Squier has 21. So the Monoprice is essentially $ 80 less than a 2021 Squier Bullet Telecaster. The body of the Squier in 2021 is Poplar, prior years it was Basswood. Both woods are considered softer tonal hardwoods, with Poplar being 540 & Basswood 410 lbf on the Janka Hardness Scale. Just for Fender reference, Alder is 590 lbf. Another reference Eastern White pine, is 380 lbf. Eastern White Pine is basically home building wood material, studs 2x4's.
    For pickup DC resistance the Monoprice has a 6.4/6.8 Ohm neck/bridge spec. Not sure what the Squier or Fender are, but these are a little more DC resistance and the 5-6 Ohm Strat single coils, but not as much as the Fender Telecaster special & custom shop Telecaster pickups that Fender sells as replacement for OEM pickups that are mods or upgrades ?
    Moving to the headstock hook shape.Well it's the Partridge Family logo, looks like a bird profile to me. Compare it to a 1970's 6 in line Ernie Ball Music Man headstock. Modern EB MM headstocks are 4 on top 2 on the bottom & EB MM does not make a TL style. The Monoprice to me is more of a "what if EB MM made an affordable Telecaster ?". EB does make a Telecaster-like body (Axis Model, they really don't have a ash tray or fixed bridge for that model, but use a tremolo bridge like what a Strat has), it's more of a Valentine shaped upper bout for a single cut. The affordable EB MM brand are the Sterling Guitars, pretty much the same MM models as Sterling models. And if you google it, you'll find 1970's EB MM Sabre & Sabre 2 6 on top tuning peg headstocks. If you don't like the hook of a Monoprice, you probably wouldn't be much happier with a Music Man ? Just a little history on Music Man, the founder worked with Leo Fender in the 1950's, MM founded early1970's, sold to Fender during the CBS era. Perhaps why late 1970's MM headstocks were the fat bird beak, CBS seemed hell bent on doing that to anything Fender for headstocks, so they could put bigger & more prominent Fender logos of them.

      Hi Jim and thanks for the detailed post. Some great points indeed. Very cool information on the types of woods and their sounds. I do enjoy the fact that people can buy decent guitars and not spend a ton of cash. There are many great affordable alternatives these days as many of these guitars have stepped up their game. Sadly, many guitar shops where I love on Long Island, NY have closed. Fewer players these days. Younger people are not playing instruments as much anymore. I teach science as a profession and ask kids about playing guitar all the time and there are maybe 1 or 2 players these days, where years ago there were many. There has to be a way to get younger people playing guitar and bass! We need more musicians! Thanks again for the great post and the information. All the best and rock on. Brad

    thank you for the fine review. The string-through finally sold me on this model, and i've ordered a blonde one.
    lots of decent cheap guitars we get to choose from these days! I bought a Glarry stratocaster a while back,
    and i'm ultra pleased with it.
    eventually with these cheapies i'll replace the pickups and nut, and also put in a "multi-contact" cable jack just
    because i HATE the standard guitar jacks that bend out and make terrible cable connections. Even with these
    upgrades, these cheap guitars are wa-a-a-ay still a bargain.

The fret work is pretty on point with no sprout or sharp ends (at least not on mine) and the tuners are pretty good as well. My only criticism is it is definitely on the heavy side (good for sustain I'd imagine) and the wiring could use a swap for a better taper. Have fun, you won't be disappointed.

      Hello, Honestly it has held up perfectly! Zero issues. Still plays great and sounds great. It truly stays in tune and not a single issue with it. It was beyond worth buying! Very cool on the amp and pedal. I have heard they are great! Monoprice makes great affordable equipment!

    Thanks for such a detailed review. Do you still have the guitar and are you happy with it? I'm also curious about the thickness of the body. Do you know if this is the standard Tele body thickness? Is it 1.75" thick? What is the size/shape of the neck?

    • @LUKESTRONG4LIFE
      @LUKESTRONG4LIFE  3 года назад +4

      Hello and thank you for the post. I can confirm it is approximately 1.75" thick. At least the one I have. As for the neck, I would say it is more of a C neck. It is a 9.5" radius neck. To me it is smooth and easy to play for what it is intended. It is the opposite of my thin Ibanez Wizard neck. I am honestly super happy with it. I have a few other Teles from Fender and Squier and I find myself playing this one as much, if not more than the others. It stays in tune near perfect and sounds great. I mostly play it through a Fender Chorus Amp and it sounds great. No complaints at all! I still highly recommend this guitar. You simply cannot go wrong! And if you ever had an issue, Monoprice has great customer service.

      Hi Matthew. Thank you for the post. To me, this is above the Bullet line but below the Vibe line. I own both. The bullet to me is hit and miss. Quality control is tough. Some are great, but some are not. I have several Vibes and mostly love them. But remember they are also a few hundred dollars more. The Indio is very good out of the box, but great for upgrading. I have mine stock but plan on changing the tuners and maybe the pickups. But I really enjoy playing it. It is a lot of fun and plays well and stays in tune. No complaints. Hope that helps!!! Be well and rock on.

    These just restocked last week again, july 15, and I ordered this blue one. Shipped to canada it was $133usd with broker fees. Its coming via fedex so there could be another fee....I hope not. A new Squier Affinity ice blue metallic is $300cdn + tax so this is still a deal.
    BTW I had a Bullet tele about 4 years ago, it was string through, very nice fit and finish, sounded great, but I returned it (to best buy) because it had shitty frets, they were rough!! I know most bullets are not string through, so I think it was made in a different plant then most of their guitars.
    Also i sure wish i bought one of those monoprice LPs before they were discontinued! I like the looks of them much better then the offerings they have now!

      traileater Hello. Sounds like a great deal. I hope it comes in perfect. Indeed some of the Bullets and Affinities get made at different plants. Is the inside routed under the pickguard for if you wanted to put a humbucker in?

    • @LUKESTRONG4LIFE

      Hello. Good question. I have never removed the pick guard. I will try to the next time I do a strong change. If I had to guess, I would guess no. If you want, you could also post your question here: www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=610263#QuestionsandAnswers It is the Monoprice website for this exact guitar.

      I posted this question for you on the website: Hello, Can anyone CONFIRM that this guitar can take a humbucker WITHOUT routing out the guitar? Or is it only routed for single coils? Thank you.

    • @LUKESTRONG4LIFE
      @LUKESTRONG4LIFE  3 года назад +1

      I just got this back from Monoprice......The $99 "T-style" guitar I got is routed for single coils only it seems - at least for the neck position. With most telecasters I've seen, if the neck position is routed for single coil, then usually the bridge is sc only as well. However - I did not check under the bridge - only under the pickguard for neck position. However, for the money it's a great guitar. Hope this helps.

    Good review Bradford. Dang good playing as well. I got the Sunburst one about 5 weeks ago and it too came outta the box ready to go. I paid $103 for it and feel it was well worth the money. I just received notice two days ago they have the blue and blonde ones in stock now. I've gotta flip a coin and order one of them tomorrow... if any are left. Eventually I want both and go to modding both. I think I'll leave the Sunburst one as is for the moment because it sounds pretty descent.
    I hope you continue to enjoy your guitars. Again, I really enjoyed hearing you play. Take care , hoss.

      David Walter Hi David. It is considered a C shaped neck. It is satin. I find it smooth and easy to play. I was very surprised by the great playability of the guitar. Hope that helps. I just checked and they are in stock in 2 colors at $99 with Fred shipping. To me it is a steal. I find it very comparable to a $300 Squier. At this price point, it cannot be beat. I really enjoy playing it. Good luck and be well.

    • @LUKESTRONG4LIFE
      @LUKESTRONG4LIFE  2 года назад

      Clearly it’s not a Fender, but I like the sound. A have a Squier Vibe Strat and the sound quality is comparable. Yes, the pickups in the Squier are better, but remember, a 1/4 of the price. Swapping the pickups would be a benefit for those wanting a more “tele” sound. Thanks for the post. Be well.
