The Phantom of the Opera is the greatest musical of all time. The story is so heartwarming and the music is beyond words! Whoever is reading this comment please watch the movie or the musical, that's "all I ask of you".
It is a truly breathtaking show. I have seen it 8 times on Broadway, tours and community theaters. Every cast member add something new and special o the show and it never gets old. And I cry every time at the end. My all time favorite :)
I like it. The people who complain are purist who wants to hear the same things as is (over and over). Kelly's voice here is like broadway mixed with pop. So she uses mostly her head voice and then she has pop inflections like a note ending in obvious vibrato. She doesn't do pop runs or anything to stray from the melody. Also, it is clear that the volume is lower on her parts (as to not overtake Josh in terms of volume). Those people saying Kelly needs to match Josh in talent is just plain ignorant. Josh is a popera/adult contemporary singer and he is amazing at what he does. However, can you imagine him singing rock or the blues, country or even r&b? Kelly sings all of these with ease and changes her tone/technique to match the genres such as doing growls, falsettos, twangs, and melisma as necessary. I believe Josh's intention was to have a powerful singer like Kelly who will sing the song in a more audible fashion (you can clearly here the lyrics as opposed to a traditional opera singer).

This is one of my favorite renditions of this song. Josh is a caring, soothing Raoul while Kelly sounds young and hopeful like a teenage Christine hearing the words she's always longed to hear.

Raoul gets a lot of undeserved hate just because he isn't Erik (the Phantom). A friend of mine put it best when he said that he sees Raoul as the classic guy who's rich with material things but poor in his heart and Christine fills that void. He finally finds someone he can connect with and wants to share life with. Erik, as pitiful as he is, seems to want someone to be subservient to him. All his lyrics talk about Christine either singing for him or serving him in some other way. Raoul seems to want to experience life with Christine as opposed to her doing anything specific for him. "Love me. That's all I ask of you". (Granted, Raoul in the book does a lot of the same creepy, stalker-y things Erik does, but at least his intentions were noble; he wanted to find out what was going on with her while Erik was manipulating/kidnapping her).
I totally get the point! On the flip side though, Erik uses his voice to get Christine to love him and follow him because he feels nothing else will work. (I use 'love' loosely, considering his circumstances he probably doesn't know the real feeling of love, so in his mind him having power over her is love. Just a thought) Also If you saw someone with a horribly scarred face you probably wouldn't love them either. Except Gerard Butler, he made the Phantom look good even with all the scars!

Pleasantly surprised by this. I've tried to listen to all the RUclips videos of this song with various artists. Aside from knowing the basics about Kelly Clarkson I wasn't really familiar with her voice. Lots of really well known singers have performed this song and done so technically very well. However, the Josh Groban and Kelly Clarkson version is the only one that makes me forget it is a song, and takes me simply to the feeling at it's core. Kelly's voice has a lovely sweet vulnerability that is absent from other versions, and of course Josh's voice is clear and consistently beautiful also. They should both be proud of this exceptional rendition of this beautiful song.

I don't think i've ever been this enraptured by a male voice before. Not that I've never liked or even loved male voices before, but josh has this, calming timbre to his voice, almost motherly, like with every word he sings he's telling you everything is okay and you believe it.
I didn't expect to like this. I didn't expect an ounce of me to like this combo. But as soon as either of them opened their mouths I was so drawn into the music. I cannot to explain how happy it makes me to hear Josh singing Phantom. And Kelly really surprised me with her ability to blend far better than expected with a classically trained singer. I am so happy in every possible way about this song and this album.

This is so beautiful, but I can't help but get tickled at what true love really looks like. It's waking up each day to stinky breath, a house full of rambunctious kids, fast food because parents are too exhausted to cook, misunderstandings, loved ones taking all their frustrations of the world out on you, but yet waking up each morning because the good times far outweigh the bad and true love fights together to overcome all the bad stuff.
I think literally stopped breathing during this entire song. What an amazing duet, Kelly is amazing, and perfection. Josh, again a phenomenal job. Love this, it gave me goosebumps.
In the end, Kelly Clarkson will always be remembered by everyone as one of the greatest vocalists to grace Earth. She is a gem! Josh as always is incredible.

There's a huge difference between opera voice and musical voice. Kelly's voice is the musical one and it suites this song perfectly as Phantom of the Opera is a musical. Well done!

Kelly comes from a pop background and just happens to have a good and powerful voice, which is why she can sing songs from the musicals so well. Josh did receive voice training but did not specifically train as an opera singer, which is normally performed without amplification. This is why he is therefore able to perform both operatic pieces and music of other genres comfortably The combination of the two voices on this recording is excellent and works perfectly.

In less than a month, I'll be dancing to this with my best friend and the love of my life as our first dance together as husband and wife. Phantom of the Opera was the very first thing that brought us together, and he proposed after singing Point of No Return with me at karaoke, changing the closing words to "marry me, that's all I ask of you". It's a moment I will cherish for the rest of my life. :') It's even more amazing that Josh Groban has always been one of my absolute favorite vocalists, so I'm BEYOND thankful that he recorded this beautiful rendition with Kelly and that I'll be able to share it with my husband on that day. ♥

I didn't expect to like this. I didn't expect an ounce of me to like this combo. But as soon as either of them opened their mouths I was so drawn into the music. I cannot to explain how happy it makes me to hear Josh singing Phantom. And Kelly really surprised me with her ability to blend far better than expected with a classically trained singer. I am so happy in every possible way about this song and this album.

This is so beautiful, but I can't help but get tickled at what true love really looks like. It's waking up each day to stinky breath, a house full of rambunctious kids, fast food because parents are too exhausted to cook, misunderstandings, loved ones taking all their frustrations of the world out on you, but yet waking up each morning because the good times far outweigh the bad and true love fights together to overcome all the bad stuff.
I think literally stopped breathing during this entire song. What an amazing duet, Kelly is amazing, and perfection. Josh, again a phenomenal job. Love this, it gave me goosebumps.

There's a huge difference between opera voice and musical voice. Kelly's voice is the musical one and it suites this song perfectly as Phantom of the Opera is a musical. Well done!

Kelly comes from a pop background and just happens to have a good and powerful voice, which is why she can sing songs from the musicals so well. Josh did receive voice training but did not specifically train as an opera singer, which is normally performed without amplification. This is why he is therefore able to perform both operatic pieces and music of other genres comfortably The combination of the two voices on this recording is excellent and works perfectly.
+blackbeasthamish I agree 100%. There are people who say that Kelly is not operatic enough here. I think, she doesn't have to be. Because Josh's classical crossover voice suites perfectly with Kelly's pop-musical voice. :)

Edit: No, you know what? This is the most beautiful duet I have ever had the pleasure of listening to. It had the hope and pain of love and the beauty of an angel at the same time. An opera piece sung by the two of you somehow surpasses the original and soars to new heights. This was an evocative performance and I, with a enormous smile, like and favorite this for both relaxation and those days where I *need* people like the two of you to lift me up.
